  • I was fortunate to see their (?) farewell concert at McMaster University, at a time when my wandering around at the front of the stage with my 35mm SLR caused no-one any grief - still treasure the many (surviving) pics.

  • for me, this sounds more like E.L.O. than Beatles... anyway, it´s an awesome one¡¡¡

  • One more thing, I saw the band on one of those 70s TV rock shows (like Don Kirshner's Rock Concert or something like that) and I believe they popped up on one or more of the morning or afternoon talk shows (might have been Merv Griffin or Mike Douglas . . .). I wonder if anyone has some of this old TV footage? If I recall, it was Klaatu's "Calling Occupants" which would have landed them on the tube. The Beatles comparison pressured them into showing up on TV to dispel this myth.

  • Thanks for posting these Klaatu soundscapes ReStartMusic. I've loved this band from the very moment they debuted in the 70s. Yeah, I fell for that Beatles comparison in the 70s too but after a couple of listens, especially to their first album, it was clear they were influenced by the Fab 4 but were not actually the same guys. Hope is without a doubt their masterpiece and I never tire of listening to it & appreciating all the musical depth and imaginative lyrics.

  • The competition in the markets that could support these bands at the time, had many of them touring Europe (Rush and Saga, for example) Upon their returns to the accolades of hometown southern Ontario and the availability of resources to get these bands more than a concert gig.... was rare. Music videos were just beginning, music television was in it's infancy. Maybe it's time for someone to take on that project in this millenium, and show us the story. I saw Klaatu, they were amazing. Lucky me!

  • My favorite song by Klaatu.

  • What i meant was...The Sci fi aspect was well understood..All kinds of journey through Space images flashed through my mind...Like moonbase Alpha at drift ( Space 1999 ...tv show created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson in...1977 )

  • The Greatest 'undiscovered' album of all time! (imho)

This song shows why it should've been a movie (at least an animated one) - just close your eyes and listen....and try NOT to picture an incredible movie in your head!

  • @Voicedude (Klaatu is beyond awesome)totally. There is this band called Tranquility from the early mid seventies, their album(self-titled) is beyond scope and measure, I think they only had one, hence the rarity, but I have a old tape, and let me tell you!!!!!

  • ... being all of 17 when this album came out, they really missed out on it's "concept" ... it was a movie waiting to happen ...

... just like Moody Blues and "War of the Worlds"...

... and the "good times" ... innocence and peace ... simplicity ... I morn the lost ...

  • HOPE is my favorite album of all time !! I think I have played it over 1000 times since first picking it up 25 years ago this week!!! Many of my songs written and recorded and released have been influenced by Klaatu (my favorite Canadian band ever) and yes I checked them out in the first place because of The Beatles connection

  • lol no this album certanly was not a flop i do not see how klaatu have not regrouped and making millions on this .

  • November 1977...coming home with this album along with Out Of The Blue by ELO. Both albums epitomized the 1970's! Pure genius! Klaatu is THE most under rated 70's band of all time!!

  • One of the best albums ever.

  • @ConnaughtVaughan

Flopped? The album went GOLD in Canada and the US. Not sure why you're even commenting on the 'video'. The track is from 1977...which predates the video age. This is merely a fan compilation tossed-up for listeners to hear the track. Like nearly 90% of all YouTube content.

  • wow, that was great, thanks

  • This album is very strange. I got it from a college just to hear it. ... and I was hearing it on and on.... because I loved it! It´s one of the CD´s I bought after vinyl was gone!

  • How this album never became a movie based on it's concept, I'll never understand. It could have been as epic as Tommy or Brick in the Wall.

  • WONDERFUL!!!No much more to say about it. Great, wonderful, super.

  • 'Our planet is the second from the sun'? Not the planet Earth I live on then. This one is the 3rd planet from the sun. D'oh.

  • woah. 3:19 of this song

portal's victims of science - the device has been modified

    anyone?

  • I remember playing this song a dozen times in a row or so at the age of 15/16... Chicken skin!

  • I waited with patience for every one of their albums during the 70's in London Ontario Canada. Very progressive theme music. The musicians were rumoured to be Canadian from the Toronto region. I am introducing some of my younger musician friends to Klaatu. Nice memories.

  • Takes me back to high school...if you like this space related music check out Fish...13th star and arc of a curve....cool band about same era...but from England i think...not popular in America....

  • Canadian band =)

  • A song what never left my mind - great thing

  • The Hope Album by Klaatu is probably one the greatest secret gems of the music world. MOst people probably have never heard the album and yet its as amazing as something like the Beatles Sgt Peppers Album. So creative and musical.

  • My exact thoughts

  • Klaatu's greatest song!!!

  • Meatu

  • Funny, how some of us came in contact with this song at an early age...

And remembering the music exact as it was, no catching up ( Sometimes perception of things are different at an early age )with how you you receive things as an adult.

Therefore it had to remain in our minds for many years to come...

  • Well said.

  • Simply magic... i heard this song last when i was 10yrs old. Upon hearing it again at the age of 36... i remembered every word! Now that's timeless!

  • That's Timeless...

You have the memory of an elephant

  • Wow!!

Unlike other kids of my age back then ( 11 years )Klaatu kept stuck in my mind for 26 years, until i bumped in to this song again in 2003...

For the dreamer i was, fascinated by Sci fi related music, this song was played on Dutch radio at the time and it would stay in my mind forever...

    Thank you for the upload!!!

  • It seems to have had the same effect on me!

  • Is it still in your mind...;)

  • This is a wonderful find! Thanks for posting this classic.

Does anyone have 'So Said the Lighthouse Keeper' from the same album?

  • magic!

  • didnt these get mistaken for a reunited beatles and 2 of their songs supposedly sounded like john and paul singing if so could some1 tell me the songs what were supposedly sounded like john and paul

  • On Klaatu's first album there were no musician credits. One magazine reviewer speculated that it sounded like a couple of the Beatles snuck into the recording studio, but it was just an off-handed remark. Then a couple radio stations picked up on it and it started to take off.

  • Sub-Rosa Subway & Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft sounded like John & Paul.

  • @ReStartMusic I believe Sub-Rosa Subway sounds more like George's "It's All Too Much"

  • I had this on a 7" vinyl single. The B side was a song called `We`re of you know` and it sounded very Beatles like.

  • This is one of those albums that has a special place in my heart, and it will remain there till I check out. Thanks for posting ReStartMusic, this sends me right back out there.

  • Thanks for posting this tune! I only have 1 Klaatu LP, so it's cool to hear the stuff that has escaped me! Peace

  • I like klaatu/the concept album.I have the only one of this titlt on vinyl. Good music!

  • isn't the earth 3rd from the sun

  • This song is from the point of view of beings from Venus. "Now the earth is just beginning to learn of our existence..."

  • believe it or not when i thought about it i caught it. long live politzania

  • Space travel at the speed of light..?

  • I got into this group heavily after their debut, but this was, hands down their finest moment. I played this record until it wore out. Oh yeah, I really loved the textured lp cover too!

  • I wore out my copy too.. Thanks ReStartMusic, if you got more from Hope I would be very happy...

  • to me this album is a masterpiece in music.dee long replied to a request of mine to recreate this piece of art, with the group reunited onto dvd with a symphony. hope it happens

  • At the time, everybody I knew thought this was their best record. And they still think that. Although "Loneliest Creature" probably owes a little something to "Loneliest Person" from that earlier concept LP, "S.F. Sorrow", by the Pretty Things.

  • hey thanks - the most complete k album - i thought i was alone

  • NO WAY!!! props to you my friend! I'm in your debt!

  • I just love this song...Thank you ReStartMusic
