Hey! Great playing! I was wondering, how comfortable is this guitar for you? is the neck too thick? I'm looking for a 7 string that fits my style of playing but haven't had the chance to try some of them yet.
I don't necessarily associate neck thickness with comfort. The neck has pretty much the same Wizard II D profile as a regular 6-string, so you get 19 mm thickness, flattened in the center.
Personally I prefer the rounder profile on my Les Paul 7-string though, even though it is much thicker.
If you ever feel that a neck is 'too thick', you should yourself a classical nylon string guitar and get some lessons in classical technique. Big necks have been around for centuries.
wow, this is amazingtone is awesome, and the phrasing rules, just a question though, how is that guitar for, dream theater esque stuff? because I'm looking to buy a cheapish 7-string, because I definitely don't have 2000 bucks for a john petrucci model xD
@Musicman6464 Thanks! I'm not a big fan of Petrucci/Dream Theater, so I wouldn't know much about that. But for the price, I think the guitar has excellent playability, and delivers some great tones, both humbucker and single coil-like.
@NICK000DICK Thanks! Stock pickups are just the pickups that were installed by the factory. I never changed them, so mine still has the stock (factory) pickups.
great solo bro frasing was perfect you were on key the whole time very very very nice as for the guy askin about pickups i have some good suggestions some pickups snarling dogs from overseas are some good ones or PAF-7s are nice also they come with the apex twos and ones deactivators, blackouts i dont know if they make black outs for sevens though
Dunno about this one.. But there are loads on the web, most I have found are torrents.. Go to isohunt and type "jam tracks" or "backing tracks".. I have LOADS seriously, good ones have the chord changes in notation...
Well, you can do pinch harmonics, but this guitar has a very heavy sound. It's better for rhythm than for lead playing in my opinion. If you really want a screaming 7-string guitar for lead playing, perhaps the Schecter Loomis is what you want.
wat i meant was someone told me you can do pich harmonics on a guitar with a trem so i just avoid trem guitars i just heard this trem is very good the ZR
If you feel confortable playind on any ibanez you WONT feel confortable playing on a schecter because they have the strings 3 times far from the body of the guitar than any ibanez RG or S series
true i just traded my schecter hellraiser seven string for this guitar after playing one. The schecter hellraiser is very heavy and has a really thick neck.
If it's any help, this is a Marshall 6101. I've always been a fan of the Spinal Puppet on the Pod, which is reasonably similar. Or the SLO100 perhaps, or a Bogner model.
ya maybe thats coming from one of thos guys that wale on it and hold the guitar by the bar. lol. seems like itd be a bit hard to break a piece of metal that thick.lol i played the 6 string version the other day at Guitar center and i feel in love with it. i love the feel of the body shape and how thin it is. do you know where i could buy some good back tracks by any chance? my guitar teacher gave me a site but its limited amount of stuff.
dude im wanting one of these sometime, maybe around taxes and stuff. But first im geting a new amp, first tube amp so im excited. Ive got a RG7321 but wanting a guitar with a whammy and the ZR seems good. how do u like it? I havent heard bad reviews yet. people say its better than Ibanezs Edge bridges.
I think it's a very good bridge yes. Some people may not like the zero-point system which keeps it more stable in the center position... but you can disable that if you want. I keep it on.
I heard that some people break the arm or the holder, but I've played mine for a year now and nothing has happened to it yet.
It's not really about knowing a lot of scales... Most of this is played in the standard natural E minor scale. It's about knowing how to use that scale. I think you just develop a feel for it by playing along with backingtracks or other music and listening carefully.
It also helps to record yourself and listen back. See what works and what doesn't.
Things that you might think sound cool while you play them might not sound so cool if you just listen back later.
hey dude i have this guitar, would you know what the strings are made of? i find the tone very bright and i think its coz they are pure steel as my other guitar has nickle wound but it doesnt have as bright tone
I have no idea. When I bought the guitar, it had a set of .010 on it (don't know if it's stock, or put on by the shop), but I have since replaced it with a set of .009 from D'Addario, just their regular nickel-plated XL series.
My guitar doesn't sound very bright at all. In fact, it's the darkest-sounding guitar I have. It does have a brighter attack than my Les Paul, probably because of the maple neck and bolt-on construction. But after the initial attack, the tone is quite dark and fat.
u think? are you using tubes because i run my sound of pedals and it seems my other axe (peavey rotor) seems very compact n warm whereas the ibanez really jumps out, but uve helped me in answering though because if it doesnt sound different with new strings then that means they were nickle plated anyway so thanks for that :)
awesome guitar there man, i'm thinking of getting that one too. just wanted to know, does it stay in tune well? like even after all that string bending?
o good good. it's one of the main reasons i want a guitar with a locking tremelo system. mine keeps going out of tune when i do shred tiemz!!!!! so thx for replying guy :]
It has a huge, and I mean HUGE rhythm tone (think Gibson Les Paul/Explorer). In my opinion it's actually more of a rhythm guitar than a shred guitar, because for shredding you'd probably want a slightly brighter, more piercing tone, and more pronounced pick attack.
There's a smidge of metal rhythm playing in my "Unaccompanied jam" video at around 5:08.
Thanks, i believe you but im just wondering how a guitar so thin sounds like a les paul, but an sg doesnt. Right now im debating wether i want a trem or not on my 7

Thanks. What I'm playing out of? You mean the key? Just E-minor.
I've tried an RG7321, but I didn't like the tone that much. I prefer mahogany to basswood. Also, the RG7321 didn't have a tremolo, and this one has a very nifty ZR tremolo.

Well, I think my guitar is very good value for money. It's my favourite guitar now, and I'm not even a 7-string guitarist really. But it plays really well, has a great sound, and it looks slick aswell.
On the other hand, it's quite a bit more expensive than the 6-string version. I do think this one has better pickups though.

is it good for 1st 7 string??

It's my first 7-string, I think it's pretty easy to play.
Scalibq 3 years ago
Dude what do you think about the bridge pickup of this guitar, are you playing with the original or did you change it?
vicchavill 3 years ago
Yes, this is the stock pickup. It's a decent quality pickup, but it's alnico, so it's not super extreme and aggressive (I'd say it's similar to a DiMarzio ToneZone). People who want to play more extreme metal might want to change it for a ceramic one or EMG, but for me it's perfect. I like the warm, vintage edge that this pickup has. The stock pickups are quite versatile aswell, which you can see/hear in my 'unaccompanied jam' video.
