I don't believe that's the 5.0 my friend that looks like the old 4.6. The 5.0 is MUCH nicer looking and uses composite intake runners, not aluminum....
the 5.0 was designed to compete with chevy's new camaro. ford couldnt release the new 5.0 in time in 2010 so it had to be released in 2011 thats why the 2011 looks the same as 2010 ford didnt expect the specs on the camaro to be so high and the 4.6 needed to be upgraded

Real power? Like what? 450hp? It makes 412 with 2010 emissions and electronics. Unbridled I would gestimate around 450-485 would not be out of the cards. That is well into LS range with no problems. On top of that the chassis it is in is over 600lbs lighter.

The motor is basically redesigned, DOHC instead of SOHC, the cams have been moved vs any prior modular, and the block is completely redesigned. It has new water and oil passages, and is like 100% stiffer than the prior block that has shown the ability to handle 2000hp.
This motor is not a clean slate, but it sure is one hell of an update to a pretty decent design.

@braddfordy the only 4.6 that i can think of that has even the slightest bit in common with the new 5.0, is the SN95 281 SVT cobra engine. unlike the standard GT engine. the cobra engine was composed entirely out of a light alloy (aluminum not mentioned), as well as dual cams and 32v. be that as it may. the new 5.0 (coyote), was not based off of any previous mustang engine, and is an entirely new composition in itself.
@braddfordy i can't exactly agree with you. if you are referring to the early 281 mustang layout (1996-1998), then there is absolutely no comparison to the new 5.0. that engine was a cast iron block with light alloy heads, 16v and single camshaft, etc. the furthest thing from the new 5.0. mostly the same composition was carried out from 99-04. the S197 platform (05-10) also remained mostly the same except for raised compression and an additional valve per cylinder, giving it the extra 40 bhp.

you guys are missing the whole argument. this isn't about horsepower rating only. the 2010 mustang gt produces performance figures rather close to the new camaro. i myself clocked a 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, on a 0.5 elevation at around a 60 degree weather, and a 13.3 1/4m. ford achieved this using a way smaller engine, with far less horsepower. not to mention, an out dated drivetrain layout.

I'm not even sure it would be a full 2-3k extra. If you consider they don't have to buy the solid axle, and put the IRS in all models, they may be able to amortize it down to maybe 1-2k. But that is neither here nor there.
I am a die hard drag racing fan, and have done it for years, and still I think that in a modern car an IRS is a better suspension because of ride quality, and handling.
Ford should put one in the mustang now so they can completely eclipse the two governmental motors offers.
I think manufacturers should make their motors thinking like bmw or porsche...100 horses per liter...example bmw m3 4.0 with 412hp...bmw m5 5.0 - 500hp...or even porsche gt3 rs 3.8 with 450hp. This are naturally aspirated cars which are the one I respect most. Companies that need help of turbos or superchargers are welcome...but the condition is to reach that sweet spot of 100hp per liter.

While you may be correct about Ford not taking "TARP" funds for a bailout like GM's near $50billion, Ford issued Commercial paper bought up by the government to the tune of $16billion, producing a "backdoor bailout". And don't even try to brag about them only taking 16 vs GM needing 50, GM has several divisions and is MUCH larger than Ford. Fact is, all american car companies sucked. You're only 15, which explains a lot. The mustang's new 5.0 beats the camaro, barely, because the new camaro is a heavy POS. My 01 WS6 with bolt ons, cams, 4.10's, and a tune has around 450WHP.

All would need to be restored, although he does have a few that are MINT condition. He has a huge junk yard, called Walkers Garage. We are looking at getting one next summer for our next project. the 5.0 was designed to compete with chevy's new camaro. ford couldnt release the new 5.0 in time in 2010 so it had to be released in 2011 thats why the 2011 looks the same as 2010 ford didnt expect the specs on the camaro to be so high and the 4.6 needed to be upgraded

THE BLOCK, you know the FOUNDATION of the motor is so stiff in PAST designs that it has held more than 2000hp. What is so hard to understand about that? This block is roughly 100% stronger.
Real power? Like what? 450hp? It makes 412 with 2010 emissions and electronics. Unbridled I would gestimate around 450-485 would not be out of the cards. That is well into LS range with no problems. On top of that the chassis it is in is over 600lbs lighter.
It will more than compete with GM

? What are you talking about? There is no supercharger on the 5.0. On top of that how is it a bandaid?
The motor is basically redesigned, DOHC instead of SOHC, the cams have been moved vs any prior modular, and the block is completely redesigned. It has new water and oil passages, and is like 100% stiffer than the prior block that has shown the ability to handle 2000hp.
This motor is not a clean slate, but it sure is one hell of an update to a pretty decent design.

Mustang? Good Car but the new Z/28 is targeting high 11's in street trim and 0-60 in under 4 seconds. The new Mustang 5.0 is a great car and wicked fast, but will be obsolete the second the first Z/28 hits the pavement. First Musclecar? First mustang was falcon and fairlane parts made for secretaries.

Mustang took 1st Camaro came in 2nd and Challenger came in 3rd, and they didnt just go by speed, but overall performance/control and Mustang won hands down...so yea its been done already and we've seen the results....

@braddfordy the only 4.6 that i can think of that has even the slightest bit in common with the new 5.0, is the SN95 281 SVT cobra engine. unlike the standard GT engine. the cobra engine was composed entirely out of a light alloy (aluminum not mentioned), as well as dual cams and 32v. be that as it may. the new 5.0 (coyote), was not based off of any previous mustang engine, and is an entirely new composition in itself.

@braddfordy i can't exactly agree with you. if you are referring to the early 281 mustang layout (1996-1998), then there is absolutely no comparison to the new 5.0. that engine was a cast iron block with light alloy heads, 16v and single camshaft, etc. the furthest thing from the new 5.0. mostly the same composition was carried out from 99-04. the S197 platform (05-10) also remained mostly the same except for raised compression and an additional valve per cylinder, giving it the extra 40 bhp.

you guys are missing the whole argument. this isn't about horsepower rating only. the 2010 mustang gt produces performance figures rather close to the new camaro. i myself clocked a 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, on a 0.5 elevation at around a 60 degree weather, and a 13.3 1/4m. ford achieved this using a way smaller engine, with far less horsepower. not to mention, an out dated drivetrain layout.

Chevy throws high hp? Lets see, chevys Ls1 5.7 max 340hp, fords triton 5.4 385hp, Fords s351 5.8 410hp, new coyote 5.0 412hp, even in 80s chevys 305 only made 190hp while fords 302 was in 225hp, thats why chevy needed to go up to 5.7 to keep up. Even the "almighty" LS9 supercharged 6.2 makes 638hp, whereas fords supercharged 5.4 (i said 5.4) makes 750hp. LoL chevy sucks dude, their only still going because americans tax money. @ikaikaboy88 ummm IRS is not just the rear diff... IRS is the whole rear suspension... downgrading from a full suspension to just a beam and coils/leafs... sure it might save weight but it murders your handling

yeah buddy thats why i said DRAG racers IRS is great but dogging on something that deserves respect for what it IS good at is just biased... IRS on the drag strip is not BAD just not as great as the 9 inch rear, and vice versa

@ikaikaboy88 you can put a 9in rear on a rear suspension.... you are talking about differentials.... and IRS is practically standard these days but ford refuses to put one in the mustang because its a extra 2-3k... its not even optional... i'm not dogging it i'm critisizing it and comparing it other models

I'm not even sure it would be a full 2-3k extra. If you consider they don't have to buy the solid axle, and put the IRS in all models, they may be able to amortize it down to maybe 1-2k. But that is neither here nor there.
I am a die hard drag racing fan, and have done it for years, and still I think that in a modern car an IRS is a better suspension because of ride quality, and handling.
Ford should put one in the mustang now so they can completely eclipse the two governmental motors offers.

I think manufacturers should make their motors thinking like bmw or porsche...100 horses per liter...example bmw m3 4.0 with 412hp...bmw m5 5.0 - 500hp...or even porsche gt3 rs 3.8 with 450hp. This are naturally aspirated cars which are the one I respect most. Companies that need help of turbos or superchargers are welcome...but the condition is to reach that sweet spot of 100hp per liter.
