I think physically freezing just means going from a liquit to a solid - so yeah,it's the same thing. In our day to day experience, we're so used to 'freezing' meaning the freezing point of water, that it's deeply ingrained in our minds that freezing=cold. Plus, according to the online etymology dictionary, our current word freeze comes from an older word meaning 'turn to ice'.
Wanna trade your frozen penny for a cool glass of condensed steam?
so by doing this have you contaminated your mercury with water? when its frozen water form the atmosphere will freeze on the surface and then melt when the mercury melts
Wow, just like Terminator.. interesting to know it thaws from the inside out!! Isn't Mercury poisonous to the touch, it can't be handled by the naked hand?
they'd be molten before they left the barrel. Not to mention the health & safety and environmental concerns of using such a round. Bad idea on paper and in practice.
@danielrp34 when shooting the mercury from the barrel of the weapon it might melt because there is a lot of heat produced, even if it doesnt melt, by the time it reacheces the target, it would be too hot because of the friction with air(it will be jelly like), and will just splatter...
I liked the camera work better when we saw this in Terminator 2. The resolution was too low here for moving the beaker around. The picture degraded to incomprehensibility.
excellent video but i wanted to let everyone know that it does not melt inside out. the rooms temperature is above -37 so it melts from the outside in. the droplets he says are under the surface are actually on the surface. it is an optical illusion. really liked this video tho
@Hegonta No. Mercury isn't radioactive at all, although its vapour is exceedingly poisonous and it is also toxic by skin absorption, so should only be handled in a WELL ventilated room wearing rubber gloves.
My teacher told me about how a school got vandalized, it was set on fire in the middle of night by accident, which made some mercury in the science lab evaporate and stick to everything. They had to rebuild everything in the school, all that was left was the outer frame of the building. Highly toxic!
I actually spent 5 minutes pondering that concept. funny... well I guess it would be okay as long as the mercury didn't melt and you definately wouln't want to get your tounge stuck to one of the walls.
Thanks a lot, helped me with my insomnia

I have a question - When you drop the temperature of the metal mercury, it freezes, as shown here. So it would be referred to as frozen.
So does that mean if I hold a copper penny in my hand, it's actually frozen copper, even though it does not feel cold?
I mean the copper penny is not hot enough to melt, so it must be frozen, right?
