Plus several episodes did a thing about how he was attracted to successful intelligent women. Put the two together plus a 'moral dilema' of finding a 'Democrat' he might like, you'd have a story arc worthy of an emmy.

No, it's the other way around. She was Baxter Birney first and then dropped Birney when she got a divorce. She met her husband on a 1970s TV show they did together called "Bridget Loves Bernie."
