Oh and by the way...I'm Every Woman, originally recorded by Chaka Khan, had already been a hit before Whitney came along for the remix. Come to think of it, did Whitney EVER have hit that wasn't a remake of somebody else's song? Oh yeah...the "unforgettable" I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
@deejayroyalt1 "You Give Good Love", "I Wanna Dance With Somebody", "How Will I Know", "So Emotional", "Didn't We Almost Have It All", "One Moment in Time" "I'm Your Baby Tonight", "Miracle", "I Have Nothing", "Exhale", "My Love Is Your Love", "If I Told You That", "On My Own", "I Look to You" and some others...all of those were hits for Whitney and aren't covers or remakes of other songs. I never said i didn't like this original, but it's the truth that is basically unknown.
@UnbeatTim42 Fair enough. I over-reacted in defense of Marilyn McCoo. Honestly I'd never heard the original before until I heard it here. Her and Whitney were both incredible in "their" time....Peace.
Whitney's vocals are amazing no doubt, but how can you NOT like the original? Probably if you heard how this sounds on a record rather than on YouTube you'd feel differently. Marilyn McCoo has always been an extremely talented vocalist and beyond that a woman with class. She doesn't have to take a back seat to anyone. I'll guarantee you this...if Marilyn and Whitney both sang this song today....at least Marilyn's vocals would still be intact.
i don't like the original.... that's why i love whitney... she's the one and the only who can turn a song into a masterpiece. Saving all my love for you (number 1 in USA) Greatest love of all (number 1 in USA) all the man that i need (number1 in USA) I will always love you (number 1 in USA) i'm every woman....
Yeah--very ignorant comments. This song was recorded when radio stations would only play disco songs, which is why M&B released "Shine On" as a single. By the time Whitney's version came around the disco fad was over and people would actually play ballads again. So there is no comparison. Why do people always have to put someone down to make their pet singer look better? Whitney and Marilyn both have the chops and lots of hits. At least Marilyn isn't a crack head.
@Noodleydoo I never said Marilyn's version was bad, just that it couldn't compare to Whitney, funny that you talk about putting singers down when you call Whitney a "crack head"
@UnbeatTim42 This was never released as a single.. so when you bring up a version that is unknown... thay is why... these childlike comments about the great whitney ... everyone has there time and Marilyn had hers... Wedding Bell Blues, One Less Bell to Answer, Last Night I Didn't Get to Sleep at All, Love Lines..Angles and Rymes and more..
Whitney's covers of both this and George Benson's "Greatest Love of All" far surpassed the originals AND THAT'S CLEARLY WHY THEY BECAME #1 HITS!!!! NUFF SAID!
the arrangement sounds pretty dated, but marilyn's voice is as sweet as evah. i love her. but, i gotta go with whitney's version on this one.

This is the first time I heard the original and I prefer this version than later covers of this song.
