  • Nice shirt Mike! Feel right at home.

  • @apapke1 ---lol. Thanks!

  • Leon Russell is going into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in a category that used to be called Sidemen. He was part of the Shindogs, the house band on the 1964-66 TV show "Shindig!". In fact, he is one of 2 "Shindig!" regulars going in this year. Darlene Love, who sang with the house girl group the Blossoms, is the other. A song he is famous for writing is "A Song For You". One of the most recent versions of it is by another 2011 RRHoF inductee, Neil Diamond, released on his 2010 album, "Dreams".

  • my favorite version of this song,i remember the video for this,it had Willie Nelson at the end looking threw a bar window at Leon playing his piano, great job Mike, keep em'coming

  • Thanks for posting this. Leon Russell also played piano for Frank Sinatra, Joe Cocker (Mad Dogs and Englishmen), and was part of George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh band. He even got a mention in Frank Zappa's 200 Motels in which Martin Lickert (playing Jeff Simmons) in referring to Larry The Dwarf (played by Ringo Starr) says: "We got quite a little drummer in this dwarf here; He used to play drums for Leon Russell."

Wow. I know I have heard this version before. I recognize the Paradise lable. I either own it or it is at the Radio Station I worked for. I like this version Mike. Kinda a dreamy feel to it. Love the sax solo.

Hi Mike, Although I can't find it, I believe I had on vinyl a Leon Russell LP with he and his wife Mary Russell on the cover. I especially liked Wind Song and I think the other one was called Lavender Blue. As I recall, Mary sang on the two songs. Are you familiar with the LP? Thanks..Joe

The Leon/Mary Russell album is called the Wedding Album.
