  • Yuk music. Awesome clip.

  • Stupid music choice.

  • Fietsmeneer?

  • Waar is de fietsmeneer!?

  • Thumbs up als je hier bent via Dumpert

  • Dumpert

  • DUMPERT

  • @Pizzaroel1

    aandachtshoer

  • douchbaggy music. great video. please repost without ruining it.

  • i thought it crashed at first because i just woke up and i forgot about the different elevations of the runway. great video though

  • If I had wanted to hear Freddie Mercury screaming like a girl, that's what I would have typed in the search field. What part of NO MUSIC don't you people understand? When I watch a beautiful airliner landing, I can very well point out if it's dramatic or not myself, no need to had unnecessary loud and cheezy dramatic music. Also, I'm not sure I buy the fact that a 5,617ft runway is too short for a 747SP... anyone know? Sorry for the bashing, it had the potentiel for being a great vid.

  • Very sad. I love the old clock and dial airplanes. Also, I as well do not like music added to YT videos.

  • at least the plane is in one piece!

  • The caption stating "Reverse thrust. Check Dust" is inaccurate. Landing distance calculations were made without the aid of reverse thrust to prevent potential foreign object ingestion as the narrow field provided for runway overhang on all four engines; clearly seen in the video. This was done to preserve engine integrity as all four were removed for future use in service aircraft.

  • Musical fail.

  • It was really amazing. However, I can not understand why this kind of video is uploaded with such a scam music. NO MUSIC please, next time.

  • By the way, I dont know about Maluti, but if the runway can be made to (or is) 6300 feet and the plane emptied, this baby COULD TAKE OFF again.

  • Can you upload this gem without the Queen soundtrack PLEASE?

Thanks for filing and uploading this rare footage that is truly remarkable.

  • The Rand Airport is in Germiston, South Africa not Johannesburg....check Google Earth.

  • @Cloudhopper767 Uhm, dude.., Germiston is like basically part of Johannesburg... Almost like a suburb.

  • Amazing landing....I was a flight attendant on the 747 SP for the late, great Pan Am.

  • some extreme rudder use at touchdown! great vid btw =D

  • did she land on the grass?

  • When compare 747 wth others, I prefer 747, they were more comfortable in long journeys

  • both lembombo and maluti are still at the airport

  • I am sitting here ,crying and Applauding together......when I lived in the UK,I would get up early morning to watch this on its final descent into Heathrow(many years ago now)...THANK YOU!!!!

  • If I am not mistaken, it is Mr Scully Levin piloting this bird into Rand Airport, he is a regular airshow display pilot at Aouth African airshows and also captain's the 747 and A340 for SAA

  • COOL

  • AWESOME WELL DONE

  • The name of the specific plane is now LEBOMBO.

What was Lebombo before? I might have gone up and down from London with stops using this plane...

I cannot remember whether it was with this plane the engine caught fire landing in CPT.

  • no dude, there are actually two 747's at rand airport, one is the 747SP called maluti from this video and the other one is a 747-200 called lebombo which was used for those fantastic low level passes at the rugby word cup a few years ago. they are both now part of the SAA museum at rand airport.

  • hi there!

Well, I actually did my own research and found the data for Hantam, Maluti and Lebombo. The one I definitely had problems with was chopped up in JHB in 2008 I believe. That was Hantam..

Do you know what type of airplane I think it was Soutpanberg or something like that was? I just remember the name.

I am semi South African, so the 747 brings back memories from my young days flying up and down from Europe. :-)

  • Superb piloting, gave me the chills with that song!

  • that could of done it in half that runway......................no problem but i have had 8 cans of stella,

  • Great video indeed! I don't like music on that kind of footage, tough. I understand Queen on Queen, but still..

  • Indeed: Music is not needed on footage like that.

  • yes a great clip, and i think the choice of music was spot on, shame about the comment underneath were is your vids so we can all comment on them,

  • great clip ,pity it was ruined by that loud music

  • @mikestanners It's better then the shit the music industry puts out today.

  • @mikestanners what do You want from this music ? I like it! Good choice!

  • @bartoepwa It may or may not be a good choice, that's not the point. Aircraft videos, in my opinion, are no place to put music in the background. There's a time and place for each.

I like strawberry shortcake, and I like pickles, but not at the same time.

  • @mikestanners ,

I agree, Queen did the music for Highlander, You couldn't hear the Actors for the music. :)

  • The Pilot did a great job to land this beuaty on this narrow rwy due crosswind, but it´s a sad sight to see that the SAA SP will never fly again !

    Yours Martin

  • comment below, stop dreaming and byeing girlie mags/dvds

  • this video is the perfect example of a south african pilot, always committed and wide awake on the job. proud to be one myself

  • 2 comments below, i was the pilot landing this 747sp, for the last time,im always the pilot of any plane on you tube when ive had 10 cans of stella artois,

  • this plane is such a potato

  • That was an amazing landing. Who was the Pilot???

  • Its always sad to see a great machine take its final journey

  • Believe it or not, this aircraft could make a fine bush workhorse in the hands of capable flight/ ground crews. Damn narrow runway in this vid, but 5000' class runway for a midweight 747 is doable. Just horse the throttles 100%, brakes locked with mains sitting close to threshold stripes. Dump flaps to 20 or greater after passing 100 kts & VR a little less than normal. Why can't engines 2 & 3 have mounted intake pneumatic FOD blasters like on the B-727-200?

  • what is the name of the music? plz send me a message

  • Queen - The show must go on ;)

  • 5 stars!!! Awesome!

  • there are still some 747sp's active in comercial flights. atleast a few specific ones that i know of (like IRAN AIR).

  • awesome.. and great music as well

  • Awesome!

  • SAA Pilots ROCK!!!!

  • my friend's dad was the co-pilot on that flight. he now flies for NCA

  • Air Atlanta

  • i was there....lots of ppl...was great

  • 5 Stars

  • i've been past the rand airport and would never have guessed that anything bigger than a private jet could land there!!! this is incredible and the pilot deserves alot of respect.

  • That was INCREDIBLE!!! I cant believe that 747 was able to land on that tiny runway!! GREAT VIDEO!!

  • I love the sound of those engines!!

  • cool video and good music to go with it.

  • Awesome video.. amazing skill, and yeah I usually hate music put over aviation videos, but it was totally appropriate in this case.

  • Fuck all y'all that don't like Queen....it was a totally appropriate song for the video

  • Fuck the music - that is a demonstration of pilot Skill that every pilot should try to emulate... holy cow.

  • I'd have rated it higher but the music was really crappy. No need for the music - let the sounds of the aircraft be the "music." (Even turning the volume control on the video all the way down I could still here the stupid music.)

  • I totally agree... I would have much rather just heard the 747 without that CRAP music...

  • Absolutely awesome !

  • Nice video. Is it possible to get a version without the music? Cheers :D

  • 1. Mute using Windows, or

    2. Turn down volume on speakers, or

    3. Rip out sound card. :-)

  • nice plane
