  • I would say you did Mr. Kipling a fine justice with your reading of Gunga Din, especially with the emotion you showed where a soldier would recall Old din..and the sorrow he would feel remembering Gunga Din died saving his life and the last words he sputtered out.

  • Excellent, made me imagine sitting listening to one of my old grand dad's war stories. Even brought a tear to this old soliders eye.

  • Bravo Bravo. Who can do Kipling justice? You are very good. It was too fast for me, but no matter i enjoyed it very much. Thanks

  • awesome. i have to memorize this for school... and u jus did the perfect rendition of it. nice job :)

  • I second the request of "The Highwayman," I think you could perform that one like a pro. Another of my favorites is "Crossing the Bar," by Alfred Lord Tennyson. I'd love to hear you do that one, accent or not.

  • Blimey! This is the best rendition of "Gunga Din" I've ever 'eard.

  • Jolly good!!!

  • Well done! Great! Greatly read!

  • Great job. You should do more Kipling! I'd love to see you do "If" or "The Female of the Species" And what did you take a swig of at the beginning? I hope it wasn't water!

  • Great reading!

  • This brought me to tears. Well done. The best recitation I've heard of this poem.

  • You did RK justice, and you did great.thanks.............YG

  • Oh, bravo, bravo! *applauds loudly with hands over head*An absolutely smashing rendition of such a well-loved poem. I loved the enthusiam, inflection & emotion you put into it, esp. the slight quaver at the end. Always loved this poem. You, sir, read this like you're the real deal & I commend you that; you do Mr Kipling proud. I agree with the others - you should read some other well-loved poems for Youtube, kind of acting them the way you acted this one. Very well read, good show!

  • You did such a great job with this poem; I wonder if you would be willing to do the same with "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noyes. It's a wonderful ghost story (not to mention a timeless love story) but I've yet to hear a truly good reading of it. I think you could do it justice!

  • Fantastic performance. Thank you so much for this -- 'Gunga Din' really comes alive in just the way I want it to. I really can't thank you enough; this performance is an instant favourite.

  • Bravo. I am sure Kipling enjoyed it as well. I remember my grandmother reading this poem to me as a small boy.

  • Interesting reading of it.

    Nice Hat.

  • I have loved this one since I was a kid. You did it justice. How about doing "Tommy Atkins" or "If"?

  • Oh my goodness, this is amazing! I love this poem, and you performed it beautifully! 5/5!

  • You guys ( most of you, anyway) are too kind.

  • Every time I see this I love it. Great Job Captain!

  • Thanks W!

  • Best rendition of "gunga din" on youtube

  • That's a great performance and perfect Aussie accent too which is fine for an Imperial piece such as this. Very moving at the end. 5 Stars.

  • Thank you for your fantastic recitation of "Gunga Din".Your performance reminded me of listening to an old veteran of the Indian Army recounting tales of his battles on the Northwest frontier.

  • I'm really flattered! Thanks!

  • My mom used to read me this poem when I was a kid, and I always loved it. I sent her the link to this video, and she thought it was fantastic too. We both particularly liked the way you broke up at the end. I have never heard a better reading than yours; GREAT job.

  • Your comments are much appreciated. Thanks.

  • AWESOME....thank you so very much!!! You are GREAT!

  • Wow! good Job!

  • 5 stars

  • What's that in the background? And is this guy even British?

  • Its a blanket...and NO I'm not British. Deal with it.

  • A fine rendition of ol' Rudyard's Classic.

I have been reading and "doing" this poem for over 50 years myself, and I also still find a powerful sentiment whelming up in me when I come to those last few lines.

PS I appreciate your comment on my more comic version, out of which I now realize, I left an important few lines ...."'ere's a beggar...etc" So I guess I'll have to redo

part two. Peace and prosperous '09.
