Well, it IS a long story, but a lot of it is repeated, and repetition is a way to memorize. It gives many different ways to remember the ester bond and double check yourself. (e.g. compare it to ether)
Note: I had to memorize the functional groups long before I learned any reactions. If you've learned any of the ester-forming reactions, probably you don't need a mnemonic about what that functional group looks like. Good for you!
Even simple memorization does not involve such tedious fantasies behind it. Anyways whatever works for u...we had to memorize functional groups when we were like 14 but still i think there are better ways to do it then this way.
