All I know, is that I looked for health insurance for my mother, and actually saw a Blue Cross Blue Shield for 1,040 a month. Who has that kind of money?! All you have to do to be sick is be alive. So while telling people to eat better may help - disease is inevitable. And all those who are healthy now, wait a while. Something will get you. Here is your 5 step plan to health insurance reform:
1) Give the same tax benefits given to employer plans.
2) take away ALL tax benefits from health insurance plans without a substantial deductible, so finally people are shopping for price for normal medical services.
3) Expand high risk pools to all 50 states, only 28 states have them.
4) Merge medicaid and medicare into this high risk pool....and require deductibles as well.
5) Abolish the entire concept of "third party payer."
This is my 3rd time posting this plan....I hope someone at the Administration actually reads it. It has stuff for the insurance industry to hate (less insurance) and stuff for big government types to hate (merging medicare and medicaid into the high risk pool).

It allows insurers to cherry pick the best policy holders in each state, leaving the rest of the people to pay higher premiums because their risk pool has been artificially heightened. The state lines argument is a favorite of the insurance lobby.
Why should we help out the insurance companies? At a time like this, they should be helping us, not the other way around.
If you want to do something immediately that would help the people pass a law that allows purchasing across State lines. That one thing would do more then your 4000 page bills. The Congress and Senate bills are not reform they are an expansion of our failed system and will cost THE PEOPLE MORE, while once again bailing out the insurance and health industry while giving Government more power to mess the system up worse. And you don't know much about medical care. Derivatives of morphine, when taken for pain relief, is MUCH less addictive. And only those with addictive predisposition run high risk, as they will with anything.

I'm not a fan of opiates. I thought the idea of completely replacing one powerful pain killer usually given in derivative form with a mild pain killer seemed irrational and poorly thought out.
Chronic pain is a central nervous system disorder. There is severe damage that your body is responding to. Neither morphine and definitely not something as mild as marijuana will solve severe cases of chronic pain, which are usually related to PTSD. It's about relief, not curing. If someone gets more relief from Marijuana than from Morphine, they should submit themselves to research, because they have a new form of chronic pain, or they have Marijuana that's altering neuroplasticity...

Agree on the Geofiles comment and also agree with you on the economy. Anyone who takes a basic class in economics knows that capitalism corrects itself through recessions. The government can help, like President Obama did with the Stimulus, and that is still capitalism. A public option in health care would only create better competition so that we have a choice that is fair and not one that is so astronomically high that we choose between health and food. All I know, is that I looked for health insurance for my mother, and actually saw a Blue Cross Blue Shield for 1,040 a month. Who has that kind of money?! All you have to do to be sick is be alive. So while telling people to eat better may help - disease is inevitable. And all those who are healthy now, wait a while. Something will get you. Allowing purchasing across state lines helps the insurance companies, not the people.
It allows insurers to cherry pick the best policy holders in each state, leaving the rest of the people to pay higher premiums because their risk pool has been artificially heightened. The state lines argument is a favorite of the insurance lobby.
Why should we help out the insurance companies? At a time like this, they should be helping us, not the other way around.

Chronic pain is a central nervous system disorder. There is severe damage that your body is responding to. Neither morphine and definitely not something as mild as marijuana will solve severe cases of chronic pain, which are usually related to PTSD. It's about relief, not curing. If someone gets more relief from Marijuana than from Morphine, they should submit themselves to research, because they have a new form of chronic pain, or they have Marijuana that's altering neuroplasticity...

I want health care reform I just do not want government to handle it. I do not hate Obama. Why can some people not understand, based on how corrupt the SYSTEM is, that people are afraid to let government have total control of this?
I admit I am not smart enough to come up with a solution but one with a correct series of checks and balances that works sounds nice. There are laws that can be passed to keep insurance companies etc. in check. I am so tired of all the arguing.

Capitalism also produces inefficiencies, such as when the true value of a business is not accurately reflected in its stock price. That doesn't make capitalism "bad."

When the stock market is inefficient, you can buy a company's stock for less then it's true value. Then, when the price rises back up to the true value, you can sell it for more than what you paid. As the investor, you would MAKE money because of the inefficiency in the market.
How does that lead to poverty and struggle? It doesn't. It leads to a positive capital gain.
Sometimes inefficiency is good and sometimes its bad.

Agree on the Geofiles comment and also agree with you on the economy. Anyone who takes a basic class in economics knows that capitalism corrects itself through recessions. The government can help, like President Obama did with the Stimulus, and that is still capitalism. A public option in health care would only create better competition so that we have a choice that is fair and not one that is so astronomically high that we choose between health and food. That is still capitalism.

Stocks are not "indexes" of company shares. Stocks ARE company shares. An index is a group of shares, like the Dow Jones.
And the plural of index is indices, not "indexes."
And, yes, efficiency in the market is quantifiable, hence the debate over the Efficient Market Hypothesis.
You should really know what you're talking about before you try to insult people.

Well, I don't quantify efficiency in the stock market, Louis Bachelier, a French mathematician, first did in his dissertation, "The Theory of Speculation."
And since then, many, MANY finance professors have quantified the efficiency of the stock market.
I have already explained how inefficiency can be profitable in my earlier post.
