IT'S TIME FOR A NEW OPEN NOW SCRIPPS! Or better yet, let your stations go back to their own, unique branding look, much like the NBC O&O's have ironically done!
I REALLY hope they don't release this horrid, God-awful package that sadly eventually grows on you to their newly purchased McGraw-Hill stations! If they did that, then stations like WPTV and WEWS would or will probably have ended up keeping the package for 4 to 5 years once it's finally been replaced.
These graphics were designed in-house (at WFTS). What were they thinking? Copper/caramel...ugh. (The big-ass L3s seen here were corrected shortly after the gfx were introduced.)
The music is from a company called Musikvergnuegen, better known for creating the Intel and LG sounders. Unfortunately, this package is nowhere near as memorable—and it has an awful signature (melody) to boot.
@donmccullen It's catchy, but the more I watch any Scripps open the more out of place the music seems. In context it tries too hard to sound "youthful" and "relevant".
At least this isn't the orchestral version (as heard in WFTS and WCPO's opens), which is even more awkward, to me. It's probably that stupid musical logo.
@donmccullen I personally VASTLY prefer KSHB's custom-made newscast for their brand new 4:30 pm newscast (that's a few several months old now)! It looks so nice and when I first saw it I was so excited not only because it had some blue in it, but also because I thought Scripps had actually bothered to update all of their station's opens!
With any luck, all of the stations will get a new look after the 2 year mark...after 2.5 years for sure, but if they manage to keep these horrid things for 3 years, then wow.
KSHB (NBC) in Kansas City is now using these graphics also. People in KC either like them, or they don't. Personally, I don't think they fit the Mid-west at all.
I agree: This sucks. Better than WFTS, very impressive, but I think I would've like the last set better than this. The music isn't bad until you get to that nefarious signature. Ugh.
My fellow Treasure coast residents need to start a email/letter writing campaign ala WPVI (I know it won't work, but it's a try.) to get WPTV to return to it's now former graphics package and music. This is absolute SH**!!!
If WPTV is using these lower 3rds and WAS using the samel L3 that WFTS was using, you can only assume once the kinks are worked out that WFTS and other Scripps stations (save for WEWS cause they like rating #3) will all have the same thing.
haha, yes I think WEWS strives to be #3... and as of today they haven't changed yet. Although honestly even these graphics would be a step up from their current stuff
WEWS is also the only Scripps station not using the new website...in fact their current really old site still doesent even do flash, its still all Windows Media based...idiots. Too bad too for WEWS, being the flagship of Scripps and everything they are just crap now.
WEWS will probably get these graphics last... but before they name a replacement for Ted Henry. (They haven't yet.) And it will likely suck in comparison to this, or WFTS... or WXYZ...
Graham, I actually agree with OTownNews. This gfx stink. In fact, I was expecting gfx similar to WFTS, and not this garbage. I'm sorry, but I have nothing to say.
WFTS will probably have something similar soon since most Scripps stations seem to be on the same boat...WPTV and WFTS had something similar before today.
They must have been so distracted with that, that they also have Tim Malloy labeled in West Palm Beach when she just clearly said that was Palm Beach....and it is, he is in front of the Palm Beach Police station.

@WizardDuck I just like the that Guitar solo that opens the WPTV, WEWS, and KSHB newscasts.

I've never seen a circle-5 logo (a la WEWS) with the NBC peacock instead of ABC, until now. Interesting.

The names on the lower 3rd are not even on the right side.

Such a step down from the Renderon graphics and NBC Collection music package.

To be honest, this is just ok, but the previous graphics are MUCH, MUCH BETTER!
GuienGarma 1 year ago
Well they didnt have a choice...as you can see from the related videos, all Scripps stations are using this now.

I like WCPO's version better.

WEWS is better... WXYZ is the best I've seen so far.
myronfalwell 2 years ago
@myronfalwell WEWS did a good job with the bumpers, but the intro is really the same.
grahambrunk 1 year ago
@sanantonionewsman yes I agree, I think WCPO's logo and set work better with the new graphics

I just don't understand how WFTS' graphics are similiar... but better? Did they crap up the graphics just to syndicate them?

I think they are far better, last ones sucked.
grahambrunk 2 years ago
The L3s are massive, there's no individuality (I've really seen more from a Fox station), the music is ehh.
OTownNews 2 years ago
The L3s will probably be modified. Their ol graphics L3s were messed up the first week too until the fixed them
grahambrunk 2 years ago
Hopefully. For now, it's just.......hell no.
OTownNews 2 years ago
HA they had the L3 backwards at the beginning, normal debut glitches lol, they are rather huge too
