Sorry, but why doesn't anyone know about Selene and why is she left out of the song altogether if it mentions Hecate and Artemis?? This is basic Greek mythology, people!
@emootaku7363 Hecate and Artemis are Greek goddesses. Hecate is the goddess of magic, necromancy, witches, the dark side of the moon, and ghosts. Artemis is the goddess of forests, wild creatures, maidens, the moon, and childbirth. They are both part of a trinity of goddesses consisting of Artemis (on Earth), Selene (in the sky) and Hecate (in the underworld).
I'm a catholic and lisenting to this song, I think this is pretty amazing! how ancient music still now in the world!, I like the rhythm of the instruments, it's impresive!
i look towards the dark sky and i see a reflection of my dark lonely world, that moon which gives light to the empty darkness. gives me a ray of hope. i look upon the lake where the moon dances upon the water with such beauty most fail to see. i see beauty within myself. i smile with delight. I'm so happy again to be who i am. and where i come from. Many stars guide me along the way towards that true and graciful happiness
The picture used at 0:44 what would one search to find pictures like it? I saw a picture like that but with the ocean a while ago...the things I search now only lead me to..things I did not desire to see..for lack of a better way to put it..So if you could let me know what you searched or how I would go about finding pictures like that, I would greatly appreciate it. Blessed be.
Is it possible that someone can explain the Three to me? The chant is very beautiful, and it calms me down. I feel...grounded, in a sense. And that probably doesn't make sense.
@Cidean Being "grounded" makes perfect sense. That feeling you are having is a renewal of your connection to all around you. It's the same feeling you get after meditation. It reaffirms your place in nature and your connection to all the Mother's lifeforce. As for the Three, what about them do you want to understand. Maiden, Mother, and Crone are the first thing that pop into my head when someone speaks of the Three in regards to Wicca. Also the threefold rule.
Threefold rule? As to what I want to understand - I know about the Maiden, Mother, and Crone. But I'm afraid I know little to nothing about them in general...aside from their names. The only way to understand something is by asking questions, no?
@Cidean Basically, the Three are representations of the 3 main phases of the moon: waxing, full, and waning. The waxing moon is viewed as the young maiden, innocent and energetic. The full moon is the mother, the kind woman. The waning moon is the old woman, the wise and gnarled grandmother.
@Cidean I'm sure people have told you this, but it makes perfect sense. I'm just learning about wicca myself, but already, I feel at home. Add me? )O( Blessed be.
@Cidean The three moon goddesses of Greek mythology are referred to as Artemis on Earth (forests, wild creatures, maidens, and the chase), Hecate in the underworld (magic, the dark side of the moon, the night, necromancy, and ghosts), and Selene (the moon incarnate). Hope that helped!
@Cidean artemis is the goddes of the wild, and known as "new moon"..Hecate, queen of wisdom also known as goddess of magic and the door to the afterlife....silver shining wheel of radiance is the full moon, wich represents the mother, great goddess, mother nature
@Cidean The Maiden is the waxing moon in the Goddess symbol and represents new beginnings and blooming. Also the element air (and wood).
The Mother is the full moon; it is she who births all life. Also fire and earth.
The Crone or Dark Goddess is the waning moon and she gives us wisdom, power thro knowledge and peace. She is our avenger (at least to me). She controls water (and metal and crystal).
(The elemental representations are more personal to me.)
@reneedooma Well the full moon is the mother and would be with fire in the cycle not Earth. The Crone (not the dark goddess) is the waning moon. And the Dark goddess would be the dark moon which is Earth in the cycle. However the dark goddess is not a part of the tripple goddess because the tripple goddess is simple maiden-mother-crone, the dark section would be death which s then reborn as the maiden.
@crackerjacker2011 Just searched google and found the image. Darn, there isn't an artist name to go along with it just a person's website that captured the image. Good find tho! I'm definitely saving the image. Thank you! *hugs* :)
It's very hard to figure out who the second Goddess is, and a lot of people won't get it unless they work with Greek Deities. People think if Selene because she is often depicted as the Mother, some say it's Hera. Personally I believe it's Demeter because she changes the seasons around. Anyways, those are my two cents.

Dante definitely has it right... they're using the Full Moon to represent the Mother aspect of the Triple Goddess because that is the symbol for nearly every Mother Goddess... no matter where.
Selene also called Mene, or Latin Luna might also be a candidate for the second goddess as she is considered the incarnate of the moon and Selene was the mother of the goddesses Pandia (All-Gifts), Ersa (Dew), the Menai (Months), and four Horai (Seasons). Her most often depiction is that of a robed woman crowned with a lunar sphere or crescent riding on a chariot pulled by oxen( a symbol of fertility)
She is a Celtic goddess I don’t know why she is mixed in with Greek gods but hey it’s still good. Her name is Arianrhod, "The Silver Wheel" or the High Fruitful Mother. She is the goddess of air, reincarnation, full moons, time, karma, retribution. The silver wheel is the Wheel of Stars that she was the keeper for. the wheel stands for time and karma.
@shippo388 the song could also reffer to the greek goddess aradia, wich is a anagram for radiance. she`s a goddess of the witches and the daughter of diana.
@kungfunewfie555 Actually, Diana was a Greek goddess of the moon and mother of Selene, a lesser goddess. Both were often confused with Artemis, and Diana was the name given to Artemis by the Romans, furthering this misunderstanding. Considering I have been studying Greek and Roman myth for a good part of my life, I would know.
@VHogan1992 the thing with the goddess is that she is like a 3 in 1 pack. she is one, but have three faces. the maiden, the mother and the witchqueen. everyone of them have many names, a good mixture of women names from almost every religion :D
@faith81it the seond godess can be called Demeter or Hera, you can actually decide what to call them all three. Rhea, Gaia, and Freya she also can be called. i read it from my witch handbook.
@faith81it I know another version with 4 lines (Maiden, Mother, Crone and their Unity), where it's Diana, Isis, Hecate and Artemis. But Artemis and Hecate as two are quite ok, since they can represent kind of opposites.
A truly beautiful chant, do you know if you can get it of off music sites such as itunes?

@reneedooma Also the Horned God is sometimes said to have 3 parts which correlate to the Goddesses roles: Youth, Warrior and/or Father, and Sage.
Tri-une dieties are actually rather common. We see them in Wicca and many other neo-pagan beliefs, Hinduism and Christianity.
