I got bell's palsy when i was about 22!!! I had an acute case of it but it does royally suck!!!! Its so frustrating not making your face do what you want it to. But I'm 27 now and I can thankfully say it's back to normal. It really scared the shit out of me when I woke up with it though because I thought I had suffered a stroke in my sleep!!!
I'm on day 2 (day 3 but there was mild symptoms the first day and then diagnosed the second) I have exactly the same thing. What I do to drink is hold my mouth closed.
I have a question I have or had bells palsy the end of September I was wondering if it cost your right side of your body to feel numb and when you are walking did you walk as a drunk person like from side to side?
Wow, your a total bitch to laugh at your dads condition. I hope you get bells palsy. How can you laugh about someone having a disease or condition which affects them negatively. You know, I hope you get bells palsy on both sides of your stupid face.
Why would you laugh at your Dads condition you moronic twisted bi*ch. There is absolutely no humour in watching someone you love or anybody for that matter endure any illness/disease. Your Dad might have slight paralysis of the face but he will hopefully recover...you on the other hand have got total paralysis of empathy. Not only is it pathetic that you are laughing ... but it is constant and you appear to revel in making your Dad do things to further entertain you. You should be ashamed!
when I had it I was 18 and my friends would come over and make fun of me and make me laugh my ass off just to see the affects .good luck with treatment !They said mine was caused from a inter ear infection and used vitimin C and penicillin
I had this when I was a kid. My mom's great cure was to slap me on the side of my face when I least expect it to get my nerves jumping again... luckily my dad talked her out of it.
@StuwardTV About the best thing I found that you can take for this is Beta Glucan and Resveratrol. The source of the cause is inflammation that is pinching the nerve. A very affordable $39 product is available at antipalsy (dot) com. I no longer have ANY residual effects of the Bells Palsy.
I had this, too on my left side of my face. My smile is still crooked and I still feel weak on that side. Any suggestions? Anything I can do? I was diagnosed in April of 2010.
@Aphroditeuf16 You are in luck - Beta Glucan and Resveratrol will reduce the inflammation that is pinching the facial nerve. I no longer have any residual effects of the Bells Palsy. I'm thinking about doing a new video to help people totally improve their quality of life. Check this out at antipalsy (dot) com.
I had this crap. Sometimes all you can do is laugh. They told me I would never be able to walk again because of it... It took over two years, but I learned how to walk again. I still have MAJOR problems with being dizzy because of it though, and it's been over 6 years. I've known people who have permanent facial paralysis. It can be pretty detrimental if you don't do the exercises and stuff.

I had this last month. Doctors said it could last as long as 3 months, but thankfully mine cleared up 100% in 2 weeks. It sucked hardcore!! Eating, drinking, laughing was hard. When sleeping my eye kept drying out, so doctor said to put lubricating gel in my eye and tape it shut when I go to sleep. But it helped to laugh it off. Good luck buddy!

Theres nothing horrible about laughing about it. Keeping High spirits about is always good for recovery, in any situation. I got diagnosed with it today, although its not even close to how bad his is. And i was so shocked about it i broke out in a sweat and about passed out. But i cant close my eye and drink just fine. I was just diagnosed today with Bell's palsy. Good to know I'm not the only one who can laugh about it and laugh at myself. I think it's good for me because I was developing bad eating habits. With this condition it is difficult to eat and drink, so I don't consume as much.

Yea when I got bp everyone would laugh bc how I laughed then that would make me laugh and it go on for like 5min rofl! But thank god it's gone. (my blinking was a little better) lol
I got bell's palsy less than a week ago. Prior to this I had a very bad ear infection. Doctor's did a CT Scan and ordered me to tape my eye shut while sleeping.
Some pretty scary stuff, Did you have to tape your ear while sleeping? It's so uncomfortable for me. I'm just hoping this goes away.
I just turned 22, but I'm told that BP has no age limit.
I was honestly crying while watching this, I just recently got bell's palsey less than a week ago, didn't know what it was till I went to the doctors today... Im 15 years old, all I can say is FML. 6 months to go.
Bell's Palsy is due to dysfunction (paralysis) of (Facial Nerve) which is Cranial Nerve # 7.
Some of the symptoms include: 1) Difficulty with Facial Expressions 2) Pain behind or in front of your ear on the affected side 3) Loss of Taste on the front two third portion of the tongue. 4) Changes in the amount of tears and saliva body produces...
This gentleman is obviously a very brave man, and I as a 2nd year medical student have a lot respect for you sir.. :)
I was 12 when i got it. My parents were not concerned at the moment cause they thought i was faking it cause i had a F in math. They realized i wasn't kidding when i was brushing my teeth and the toothpaste ran out of my moth and onto my shirt. We rushed to the ER and thats when they gave me the news. it was a 2 mouth recovery with a lot of medication and pills.
I'm 15 and I've just been diagnosed with Bell's Palsy. Most of the times when things happen to me, I find humor in it and I'm glad you did too. I can't say whether or not if i'll be able to find humor in this but I will say that it won't get me down.
I got it a while back around last December in 09, i wen't to a job interview with it and everything. Soon as found it wasn't anything serious i was laughing about it. Took some pills and went away after 2 weeks. Not really a thing to get depressed about tho, it's more funny to laugh at lol

i have gotten bell's palsy 3 times on both sides. at age 13, 15, and 16. the medication makes it go away faster. mine went away in about a month, but i never really fully recovered. the doctors said it was an ear infection, or something.
@merceditas2009 ... did u get the answer why u got it thrice. i m also suffering frm regular twiching after getting it. i got fully recovered after 4 weeks. ny anwser appreciated. thnks
I had bells palsy and i was only 15 at the time. pretty rare for my age, i had to take like steroid pills and stuff to get rid of it. one of my eyes are still not as opend as my other eye . pretty shitty luck :(
i got it yesterday morning.. i didn't get it as bad as this, but i can't wink with my right eye, and when i talk my upper lip leans towards the left.. i can close both eys at the same time, and i got prescribed with MethylPREDNISolone 4mg... they're steroids 0.o
Im So Sorry! My 9 Year Old Cousin Was Just Diagnosed With Bells Palsy. I Litterally Started Crying When i Heard Everything! She got It From Depression.
@alexwolffhottie Of all things, I came down with thrush that was mis-diagnosed. Couldn't eat for over a week! Got on the right meds for thrush and healed up right away. Was having bad headaches behind my right ear, and woke up with the right side of my face paralyzed. It's been two weeks now and I'm seeing some good signs! Still troubled with headaches though :(
@ninafitingov i qot it wen i was 15 :( i juxx woke up wiff it nd the docter said it might come bakk wen im older :( but i woke up wiff it :0 lonq story:0 p.s. i went to skwel wiff it not koo
@Wildmofo1969 wat did yuh do to recover?? i still havn't recovered fully :( oh yea im 15 wen i qot i been having this for lykee 3 months but it's not as bad nomore but yuh could still tell :'(
@brodericktful :'( i'm srry :( i been having it for 3 moths but it's not as bad as this vid becuz i kinda recovered but not fully :( i am juxx 15 nd i qot to qo to skwel wiff it :( nd' i used to laugh everyday bout 2,000 tymes now i don't laugh...
i have had bells palsy for 2 weeks now...today is 2 weeks, and im almost fully recovered. i can blink my right eye again, almost all the way, but the best part is i can close it now. and my smile is coming back slowly as well. i hated it so much, worse part about it is eating and drinking. i havent shaved my facial hair in almost a month,i think i can do it now xD
i had this for a month. i was 11years old. Im now 15 sometimes i still find it hard to blink and my mouth twitches. I was on medication for a month. it was the worst thing ever. hopefully it doesnt come back.
@Tammix0x i have those same symptoms. i got it the first time at 13. it's still hard for me to blink on one side and i twitch constantly. mine came back 2 more time which sucked big time.
Brian, hey there. My name is Travis, and I'm an actor in LA. I was born with Bell's Palsy, and only one of two cases I've heard of from birth. Very interesting to see your Day 1 video, and I must admit a little weird to see you laughing at it. Growing up wasn't easy, but I've gotten used to it, and I can't imagine what it'd be like to be "normal" and then wake up one day not being able to move half my face! Kudos for your strength.
It's almost been a year since I've was diagnosed and I still have some of the facial paralysis. But it's gotten a lot better since the beginning. Watching this made me laugh because I went though all the same things, especially the drinking. God I hated that.
Thanks for the video! It made me laugh (I can relate since I have this condition right now too!) I'm glad to know it DOES go away!!! I can't look at myself without crying right now!
keep ur chin up hun my sister has bells palsy and i know by first hand seeing her go through it what it like, u r in my prayers hun keep positive...... doesnt change who u r..:) love the laughter....
i had this 4 weeks ago and its hard to see a difference after a week or 2, but around the third week i could notice more movement and now i hardly have any of the affects left. i went to the dr the day i saw this had happend to me and her prescribed prednisone and it helped.
I had that too it sucked had to have lots of eye drops cause my right eye would not close and it was hard to drink anything cause my mouth was like that. It lasted for about 2 months and then that was it. Also the doc said it's a sign of stressing and you have to not stress so much also do facial exercise to get your muscles stronger. Hope that helps:)
I had bells palsy back in November last year and it went away after about a month. When I had it I could do the best Rock imitation when he lifts his one eyebrow. Make fun with it and it will be a lot better.
Bell's palsy is a form of temporary facial paralysis resulting from damage or trauma to one of the two facial nerves. Resulting in inability to smile/close eyes. It is on one side and has an abrupt onset and no detectable cause. Not related to stroke, it is the most common cause of facial paralysis. It is not an upper motor lesion, it is a peripheral rather than central problem. As the muscles are hypotonic it can be treated with electrical stimulation. Compare with central facial palsy.
I just found out I had bell's palsy 2 days ago when I woke up on sunday and the left side of my face wasn't operating. It really sucks because I'm 16 you know and highschool grrr! irritating having people always asking me to smile just to get a laugh....
I've had Bell's Palsy all my life and it has gotten alot better over the years. No one can really notice mine ,unless I laugh, talk(sometimes),drink out of a straw, etc.
I had this before, it doesn't hurt but it's very uncomfortable. I woke up one morning and the whole right side of my face was completely numb. I thought I was having a stroke. I went to the hospital the same day and the doctor told me what it was, she put me on medication and now I'm all better. It freaked me out so much.
this is the stuff my sister makes me do so she can get a laugh. lmao we were just doing all these things in the car and then i came upon this video which is weird. its funny trying to drink and laugh.
To anyone who has had Bell's more than a couple of times: please have your doc look into Melkersson Rosenthal Syndrome. I was misdiagnosed for years. I had surgery and have had no more symptoms
Yes humor does go a long way with Bells...i had bells for 2-3 weeks in August 09, and i lied to everyone and said i just came from dentist and had root canal...not wanting to discuss what happened...i was very embarrassed...i had 2 steriod shots and took vitamin B-12 pills...i will continue to take the Vitamin B-12 pills for life! Immediately go see a doctor for the steriod shot for a quick recovery, stay positive, massage your face often, and just try to keep a good mood.
i feel u bro!...i just got it this morning with the same symptoms except about the eating nd drinking...nd im barely turning 12 on december 1!...yeah!...im 11!
Im thirteen and i have had bells palsy ever since i was born. I'm about to turn 14, and my right side of my face is the one. When I was young, my mom would massage my eyelid and right face. I can fully close both of my eyes, I can smile, but my upper right part of my lip is finally starting to move a very small bit. I can't move all of my right eyebrow. My best tip for everyone is to massage/move around your side with your hand to stimulate it, it really helps.
why cant anyone in this thread spell laughing? anyway, yea I just got over Bells Palsy after about a month or so. It sucked lol I bet the daughter would be a wreck if she had to go to school or working looking like that.
I'm going on week 3 w BP and just now had the sense to do a google VIDEO search. Misery loves company. So I feel like I'm in good company with some really positive people and people who can laff at themselves. Just in time for Halloween, for me; don't need a mask this year. Hah! Also wish I thought to make a vid. I did post a pix of fB.
lool i find this video very funny..i was dignosed with bell paulsy last week at first it wasn't so funny it is a very scary experince there times where i think it takes years to improve but i know it heal soon i pray to almighty god it does i feel my lips and mouth is moving.. but there are days where i cant sleep i have migranes and get dizzy really quickley but its been 10 days allready and i'll update this when i get better too let u kno how i recover just has faith and pray to god xx
Omg i know exactly how u feel i have it right now and am using artificial tears for my eye its so weird and annoying

@willchrisbow oh, I actually wasn't sure if it was temporary or not. Even then though I'd still probably be scared haha

i have gotten bell's palsy 3 times on both sides. at age 13, 15, and 16. the medication makes it go away faster. mine went away in about a month, but i never really fully recovered. the doctors said it was an ear infection, or something.

Kudos for your strength.

i had this 4 weeks ago and its hard to see a difference after a week or 2, but around the third week i could notice more movement and now i hardly have any of the affects left. i went to the dr the day i saw this had happend to me and her prescribed prednisone and it helped.
bamfangel90 1 year ago
I had that too it sucked had to have lots of eye drops cause my right eye would not close and it was hard to drink anything cause my mouth was like that. It lasted for about 2 months and then that was it. Also the doc said it's a sign of stressing and you have to not stress so much also do facial exercise to get your muscles stronger. Hope that helps:)

balzysalzy 2 years ago 5
Bell's palsy is a form of temporary facial paralysis resulting from damage or trauma to one of the two facial nerves. Resulting in inability to smile/close eyes. It is on one side and has an abrupt onset and no detectable cause. Not related to stroke, it is the most common cause of facial paralysis. It is not an upper motor lesion, it is a peripheral rather than central problem. As the muscles are hypotonic it can be treated with electrical stimulation. Compare with central facial palsy.
