Hey man, can I contact you for some questions? I'm having trouble with some stuff. Like I want to compete but I think I'm to short (1m74cm) and I'm not as impressive as the other guys due to my small size.
@laurenssius If you continually worry about who you're gonna step onstage against, you'll never compete! You're competing against yourself first and foremost. You can't control who shows up or how they look. As I said in an earlier comment, I was usually the smallest person in my class yet I won over 100 shows. I'm also smart enough to know that I'm not competitive outside of my region. I never had dreams of going to the nationals. Get in your best shape and step onstage...y'never know...:)
@marc1989ish I was bigger than I was at my drug-free best - that's what steroids do! If no one grew from them, then why take em, right? Like so many others I didn't think about the long-term ramifications. I can't undo the past, and I don't sweat the future, but every now and then, when I have major pain in my joints, I 'wonder'...
thank you very much for the video. you give a great insight on the sport that many people would probably never be able to get. the way you present it makes it understandable why people choose to cycle, physically and mentally. the problem is that often times, people will judge physique-related enhancement as morally wrong, while "supporting" their own system with all sorts of medication. it is a thin line to draw, as every external interference with the body will (eventually) leave its mark.
@mchief101 - Yes, I had Gyno in both pecs. I had the right one removed about 4 years ago and the left one taken out 6 months ago. The gyno came after being 'on' less than 2 years. 30 years and $5000 later they're gone. Hated wearing tight or no shirts - who wants -ManBoobs'?
@mchief101 - Well...I have chronic joint pain in my shoulders, knees, low back and elbows...I attribute it to being on the juice and far exceeding my natural joint limitations. The steroids 'masked' the pain markers that were being sent so I kept lifting. Now I'm paying the price. 5 screws in my right shoulder, 2 right knee and 1 left knee surgery, an artificial hip and the other one going out...all related to steriods??? I can only wonder...but it is what it is so I don't sweat it! :)
@mchief101 - Whatever decision you make, be sure you're ready to live with the consequences...'hindsight is always better than foresight', they say. I can definitely look back over what I did years ago and wonder if my physical condition would be better today if I'd not done the juice. But like Michael Jordan said, "The word 'IF' should never have been in the dictionary because you can't ever see the flip side of it...!" :)
@xxXSCARFACEXxxx When I was in my 30's and early 40's over 350 lbs...not anymore! Age eventually catches up with all of us, and it's caught up with me.
Thank you for your comments on the "mental" aspect of taking steroids. This part of the deal is always overlooked. I have lost a couple friends to steroids and the mental toll they took. I remember when I too was presented with the steroid option. I chose the non drug rout and have had some fortunate success that kept me going. Today I am a WNBF pro. and continue to compete for the love of the sport. God bless and cheers to your continued success.
Dear Sir, I just want to say that, I am so amazed by your physical body. I would think that your 20 years old or even younger. I think you have a very strong and proper structured physical appearance....
@rangsit2008 Thank you very much! To steal a line from Ray Charles in an old interview years ago..."I just make it do what it do, baby...I just make it do what it do!" I truly appreciate your kind words. :)
wow man, im 27 and i'd be proud of a body like that - i've always been muscular but never cut - i just started my first attempt at cutting down 3 weeks ago so let's see what difference it makes.
@xenomorph77 Much appreciated my friend. As far as getting lean, there's no secret or shortcut...y'gotta clean up your foods, and do cardio - how much depends upon your system and metabolism. Good luck!
@MrJacked86 So what you're saying is if one is not 'big' (define big please...) then one cannot be a bodybuilder? Hmmm...perhaps I'd better turn in my 100+ 1st Place and Overall trophies, along with numerous Best Poser awards...:).
Seriously, bodybuilding is simply building one's body to whatever level one is comfortable with or what one's genetics will allow him/her to grow. I'm drug-free. I've never stepped onstage weighing more than 163 lbs but have taken out lots of bigs.
@drbuff1954 No other sport in the world depends more on genetics than BB. If you are "small-boned", you will NEVER be a champion in the big leagues, no matter how hard you train. That's probably what he meant. Doesn't mean you can't win events and stuff though.
@MrJacked86 DUDE steroids prove nothing just that u aint getn any so stop dissing the man and grow ur dick back i mean u dont have to be 250lbs of raw muscle to b strong and fit
@strongman016 Pumping Iron was a totally different kind of documentary than this one. Commercial with the intent to generate income. We aren't marketing toward anyone or anything. My friend wanted a project to do and asked me. I obliged. It's just one man's story of his journey...peace! :)
@nataku1224 I just had an email conversation with the producer of this documentary. He lives in California and I live in Washington St. but he's coming up here in September. We might do something then. He's got a couple of ideas...:)
Amazing Doc. This guy speaking from experience. Speaking just how it is. No pussy footing around the subject of drugs. Incredible. Very inspirational. I am a natural bodybuilder and this just reinforces me to stay that way. Thankyou!! al the best
@exia78: Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it. Hopefully there will be a Part II. I talked with my videographer/editor and we're working on some things now.
Great mini-documentary. I love watching these sorts of videos while doing my own weight training as a natural trainer as it helps to inspire and keep me going if I am waining in my training ( and before anyone comments, I am not against steroid training, it just isn't for me). Hope to see some more of these if you have the time. Peace,
@1rishShaman: Thanks Paul! I hope to do some more with my videographer, but unfortunately he lives in California and I'm up in Washington. We share similar philosophies so it was easy to do this. No worries...I'll be talking to him this weekend and we'll see what we can do. :)
Regardless to anyone's opinion on the use of steroids, the fact that you are 55 years of age and look as amazingly in shape as you do is nothing but truly inspirational. You will get no negative comments from me sir as you are quite clearly a champ. All the best in any upcoming comps you may have-
those 3 words: you wanna win, you are saying that everyone who is on steroids , those 3 words are the reason we are on that, that is not true, im on them because i just want to look good, and im doing it with responsabillity, and guess what, i never lost something because of the roids, i feel better, i feel bigger, i feel stronger, thats what life is al about, instead of the whole i-lost-everything-steroids story you should have said that you are to weak to do steroids with responsabillity
you blame roids for losing all your stuff like your wife, children, house, car, but buddy... you did that all yourself, not the roids, because 99 % of roid users do not have that problem , you belong to the 1%, you should have known that because you live in america, and as far as i know they all take roids for breakfast in your country, nice documentary by the way, but you should not have put the roidpart in it. because most of us do not have that problem you had. grtz
