WOW!! what a fuckin talent Randy was......he sounds better live then recorded and now days its the COMPLETE oposite with most music......the music industry has fucked up BIG TIME!
very cool.. have trouble Believing that this is from the soundboard, but after this tape got remade and passed around for 30 years, i see how the quality degenerates..
in addition to the random echo hes putting on the solo, sounds like hes also using some kind of octaver (or early gtr synth?) in the solo, too... this is very dif from other boots i heard from this tour.
Happy Birthday Randy!!!!!!!!!!You are the BEST thank you for what you gave us.This was recorded 1 day after my 9th b day ,and I was listening to him then.Randy Rhoads FTW
MANY OF YOU GUYS ARE SAYING R.I.P RANDY BUT FOR ME RANDY IS ALIVE IN MY HEART AND HE WILL STAY FOREVER (an Ozzfan from the middle East))SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH
preach it to me FATHER OZZY!!!!!!! nobody ever gives ozzy the credit he deserves for what he says in his songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just listen to the lyrics of this song, WATCHING THE TIME GO, FEELING BELIEF GROW. great stage show no doubt. remember when they hung the midget, and then break out into Goodbye to Romance while he swings??? sick stuff but i loved it.
BEST FUCKING OZZY song EVER!!! with the best heavy guitarist ever.... what do u want more? ... SEE THEM like me ! :D ozzy vocal sound so much more powerful live :P
went to see ozzy with randy in 81 at port vale football ground in england, they played over the mountain and flying high off the diary of a madman album, feel blessed!
guys my first solo was inspired by Randy's Mr Crowley solo. When I recorded it I knew that he will be alive in my heart 4 ever!!!HARD ROCK / METAL RULE!!!!Don't let Randy be forgiven..I am 15 years old,so I will keep his spirit alive with my music if I can..RIP RANDY...
@Melted...Good job son, if your friends like rock/metal, you have to get them into Ozzy, especially Blizzard of Ozz/Diary of a Madman, classics! And of course all of the Black Sabbath w Ozzy on vocals albums.
8 months ago 3 Saw him my junior year in high school 1982, Diary of a Madman tour.
In my opinion he made Ozzy a star, not the other way around. Ozzy came onto the stage in a giant stone hand, then you see this little guy to the right of him just start flying on a white Jackson, awesome!!
Drove my "Cuda to the show with best friend and my little 16yr. old blonde girlfriend, so tight you could bounce a quarter off her butt, ha. Seems like a dream now, good times!
@davyaelmans Randy and Zakk are totally different players, no matter how much people want to compare them. Zakk is more in the old blues man/EddieVH tradition. He doesn't really know all that much technically and he's extremely repetitious. Not bad, just repetitious. Randy is a classical guitarist at heart with a love for distortion. A closer comparison is Paul Gilbert, who is, imo, the closest we have to Randy now. Yngwie is classical but he leans too much on it. Randy knew to balance.
I was at blizzard in long beach, ca 13 yrs old, drunk , wish I wasnt drinking, what a waste fell into the wrong crowd, was a sabbath fan had no idea what I was witnessing
I saw Randy in Sept. of '81 during the last week of the "Blizzard" tour. Greatest rock n rol memory of my life. His playing and stage presence were just beyond description. After the concert, I was in the right place at the right time to meet him very briefly and get his autograph. An incredible night.....an incredible memory.
wish I where born earlier, I'm 13 now...and Today we don't have many good bands or guitarists anymore...Rest in peace god Randy, My greatest inspiration and idol
I also got to see Ozzy on the DOAM tour in Feb. 1982 in Charleston, WV. Just after he bit the head off of the bat onstage, I was so excited to see what he was really like in concert. Ozzy was great, the castle themed stage was awesome but Randy just took over and little did I know I was watching a living legend that wouldn't be alive a month and a half later. I feel blessed to have seen him play live.
I was so Blessed to witness Randy in St. Louis back 2-6-82. Ozzy was all messed up but it didn't matter Randy stole the stage and floored everyone in the house.
There must be a lot of unseen footage with much better quality. I mean Jimi Hendrix Live At Woodstock was filmed i 1969 and is great quality so why is this so bad, you would think they had advanced quite a lot in audiotechnology in thirteen years.
yeah i know what you mean. but i think that there is actually alot of footage not released... I know ozzy has a bunch locked up and is keeping away for respect reasons... but think about how big ozzy was back then... theres pro footage of him before and after rhoads... it exists but its hidden away =(
my opinion and alot of other peoples opinions are that sharon and his mom havent released them. cuz your right, how could there not be?? ya know. but i saw the doc. trailer and theres footage ive never seen before on there
I hope you're right. I'm a major Rhoads fan and would like to see some quality live stuff.
Cheers!
They need to release it, the huge Rhoads fans are living right now (the people that actually saw him live) if they wait won't be as big of an interest, he will always be great but the next generation won't appreciate him like we do.
did you see him live??????? and i mean if me as a 14 year old loves him as much as a another 14 year old did in 1982 you dont think the next gen. will appreciate him.. man i hope so! ha. and yeah im sure of it(to the other footage)
Yes, I saw the Diary of a Madman tour in Evansville, IN or Chicago @ Rosemont can't remember been 27 years or so. I was 17 at the time.
Another cool thing I found, was looking for ticket stub to this show and ran across my Highway to Hell concert shirt 1979 with Bon Scott, still looks great, but too small now, ha.
Some cool stubs I did find, KISS for $9, AC/DC $11, Dio Holy Diver tour $13, prices sure were cheaper then!
@SpaceAceTX Ozzy was taping it professionally but they never released the tapes. Now they are going to in November along with the original two cds with all of the original drums and bass. Around Thanksgiving i believe. Can't wait for it.
@SpaceAceTX Because no one expected him to die so young. I'm now 12 years older than he was when he passed. Think about it, he's a healthy 25 yr old, living his dream. In retrospect that should'a been a sign but really...look at Brittany Murphy. Who would've predicted her death? We don't expect younger folks to die.
@Colierrannd2 True no one expected it, but look at the footage of every other flash in the pan no talent pop star. How long has that worthless piece of trash Lady ga ga been around, and look at the film wasted. This was his 2nd album & tour with Ozzy, voted best new guitarist of the year, remarkable talent yet no cameras were rolling!!!!
But they got plenty of footage of Men at Work and Flock of Seagulls that year since they were in Top 10 of year bracket, pretty disgusting
@randyrhoads4737 he has... actually... i have it on a video.. 81.. he plays it after over the mountain.. without the acoustic intro of the song... . dont listen to this newb
@randyrhoads4737 He never played Diary of a Madman live on stage, he did play it at a Guitar Seminar held in PA on the DOAM tour, and that is on bootleg. It wasnt the full track, just broken down sections.

I was there.NEVER before this had I seen an audience FULLY engaged on the show.Scariest (Really!) moment is goodbye to romance. The midget.iron man is running around te stage and gets HUNG! and is swinging behind the drums for the song!!Trick and all..fucking wicked!!!!

RR Tribute is still one of my favorite metal albums of all time. Technically there may be many more flashy guitarists than Rhoads, but Rhoads composed truly excellent metal tunes.
One of the very few that could write a solo worth listening to ... that didn't feel superfluous.
actually, that set caused more problems then you could ever imagine. it may kick ass, but i think all the problems with monitoring and other audio would majorly outweigh the cool factor
yeah i know they had to place amps and moniters in all kinds of retarded places but i would made the set differently. i would have put the amps in the wallls of the castle behind big gates or something. but its still a kick ass set.
Yep. The whole band had a lot of problems when they first started rehearsing with the castle. I'm sure as hell glad I wasn't one of the crue setting up that stage for each concert. I wonder how long that would take.
One of the best stage set ups visually.Right there with Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengance mammoth multi level set-up of Marshalls. Also Iron Maidens Piece of Mind Egyptian set-up was awesome.
The album version was quite different, and really the only part that's the same as Crowley is the first couple measures. I'm pretty sure he used that one cuz he didn't like the studio one and felt it was really rushed (IDK if he ever got to a final version he liked alot but w/e it still rocks).
Yeah. You're right. For some reason the band was being rushed to finish the whole album. Therefore, the Believer solo is like Mr. Crowley's and also the solo in Little Dolls is just a scratch. Randy never had enough time to put the one he wanted in it.
I cannot thank you enough for this. My Brother and I were there. I was 16, my Brother 13. We stole the parents car, drove 60 miles in the sub zero weather, and got grounded for a month for doing so. I have seen many rock concerts, and many Ozzy shows, and this by far was the most awesome. Ozzy in his prime with Randy. It is so awesome to here a show I was at so many years ago. Thanks so much!!!

it would be so awesome playing on a set like that. Its a castle! now that is rock and roll!!!!!
hgyture2347 3 years ago
actually, that set caused more problems then you could ever imagine. it may kick ass, but i think all the problems with monitoring and other audio would majorly outweigh the cool factor
berserker1944 3 years ago
yeah i know they had to place amps and moniters in all kinds of retarded places but i would made the set differently. i would have put the amps in the wallls of the castle behind big gates or something. but its still a kick ass set.
hgyture2347 3 years ago
Yep. The whole band had a lot of problems when they first started rehearsing with the castle. I'm sure as hell glad I wasn't one of the crue setting up that stage for each concert. I wonder how long that would take.
killingsense 3 years ago
probably a fricking long time. lol
hgyture2347 3 years ago
One of the best stage set ups visually.Right there with Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengance mammoth multi level set-up of Marshalls. Also Iron Maidens Piece of Mind Egyptian set-up was awesome.
michaels2boys 3 years ago
The Egyptian setup was on the Powerslave album's tour. I'm right. Check it.
hempdiddy 3 years ago
I slipped on that one. Saw both tours just confused the 2. Both were amazing shows!

Metallica Justice set up was kick ass the one from 89 shit binge and purge. Those three are the best.

R.I.P. Randy Rhoads

The album version was quite different, and really the only part that's the same as Crowley is the first couple measures. I'm pretty sure he used that one cuz he didn't like the studio one and felt it was really rushed (IDK if he ever got to a final version he liked alot but w/e it still rocks).
ItsDustinDazzlin 3 years ago
Yeah. You're right. For some reason the band was being rushed to finish the whole album. Therefore, the Believer solo is like Mr. Crowley's and also the solo in Little Dolls is just a scratch. Randy never had enough time to put the one he wanted in it.
killingsense 3 years ago
Sort of, but I see what you mean, he did kind of rush, at least thats what it seems like
