@77nova454 well I always use to crash on landings in flight sim. LOL I wanted to see how the profesionals do it. So I was so pleased when I got this once in a lifetime chance
@77nova454 Prior to 9/11. Back in the days that if you asked you could go into the flight deck for a few minutes during a flight. I'de been into the flight deck early in the flight. The capt knew I was interested in what they do. I was more than surprised when the Stewardess came down just prior to the start of our decent into London, (whilst still over mainland europe) and asked me if I would go and see the Capt again as he wanted to tell me something. That being join them for the landing
Lufthansa is of course one of the best and safest in Europe. But I experienced one of the most turbulent flight with Lufthansa. Either 17 or 18 Sept 2001 Istanbul - Munchen. We all thought that was it! Shaking like a leaf.
that was great, I was accepted to pilot training in the USAF in Sep 68, but got drafted into the US Army in Jun 68 - either way I ended up in Vietnam - flying over Vietnam would have been much better, I think and led to a better life - strike three again,my life really sucked-talk about bad timing
If you only knew the countless miles I've logged in Flight Simulator programs since the 90's - I still fly around in Flight Sim 2004 and seeing the real thing is always a rush. Flying is one of my dreams.
Even on video the blood pressure rises seeing this! Now tell me it isn't marvelous to convert some of those classic vids that you have on 8mm :)
That was the reason I got to do this, the pilot asked if I had ever been in a flight deck before and I told him apart from quick visits, only in Flight Sim, he talked about flight sim a bit and how he used it. Then a little later I got the invite
Curt thanks for popping by, I just wish I could of been in one for a take off also. That would of been so cool, this as been sat on old 8mm camcorder tape until today, just pleased I was able to get the tape to transfer
Not always the case Stu, okay flight deck visits were common prior to 9/11 I used to have one on every flight I took, but a year after 9/11 SpanAir allowed my mum her first flight deck visit, sure not for a landing but just a visit during the flight.
WOW! Now THAT would be cool. I'm surprised they let you film that -- of course this was March of 2001 not after 9-11 2001. Great stuff, I enjoyed that footage. I'm a chicken on take-offs and landings myself. :)

I think since 11th September 2002 it is way difficulter to get into the cockpit. You can be happy for those pictures.
What you should also try is to get a flight with a Cessna. Feels way different than in these jumbos also because you're also seeing much more.
BattlefieldDoktor 2 years ago
I was very lucky. I havent been in a cessna, but when I went to the states part of the flight was in a de havilland dash 8.
