That pretty much covers Robotech, but Macross continues, and continues.....and continues. :D Maybe one day you'll do an extra add on video explaining the continuation of Macross. Oh and I've just brought Robotech on DVD here in the UK to try out. :)
@David315842 Oh wow, you've never seen Robotech??? My friend, you are in for a TREAT! That was probably my number 1 favorite animated show growing up. Influential to me in soooo many ways...
@Zaranyzerak Wow I actually shocked you. Well I've never seen it due to the fact that like Voltron it wasen't ported over here, or at least it did but it didn't really get noticed. However the folks at Manga Entertainment have released the re-mastered editions on DVD here in the UK, probably due to the fact they went out of their way to distribute Macross Plus and Macross II: The Movie etc. I decided to give it a go since it has a few familar voice actors providing voices for the characters...
@David315842 Plus the robots. :D Yep I've seen on Part 2 how into Robotech you were. A pity that those toys never took off, though in the case of the Valkayre there was some copyright issues, or at least there were with the Jetfire/Skyffire character from Transformers. One or the other. :D
@David315842 Nice! Yeah, the Valkyrie copyright issue was on the Transformers side. I actually have the original Jetfire toy, and it is 100% a Valkyrie. :) Make sure you wait until after the series to watch Shadow Chronicles, you'll get way more out of it that way (plus it's a direct continuation of the series that picks up right where it ends). Hopefully your set also includes Robotech II: The Sentinels, all that was completed of the first attempt at a sequel/sidequel.
@Zaranyzerak Ah that would explain why the Robotech toys didn't do well...in part. Oh don't worry I'll be sure to watch the series in chronological order from Macross, then Masters, New Generation and then Shadow Chronicles. It would make a very interesting transition from Cam Clarke and well known english anime voice actors that provided voices for the occasional monster in Power Rangers to Mark Hamill. :D Maybe one day I'll see the Sentinels, even if it has to be on video.
@CaptCamping If you read the comments, Zaranyzerak said that he only primarily focused on the 'Robotech' titles and the series that they were adapted from and NOT any of the sequels, prequels etc. that came from the original source material. He'll do a seperate video on that one day.
@CaptCamping I most certainly did not forget any of those. They were not relevant to the focus of this video, which was Robotech and the shows that it was adapted from. I may do a video about the various Macross sequels at some point. But as this is about Robotech, and not just Macross and its various incarnations/sequels, it was beyond the scope of the topic to cover them here.
@slyther2 I don't think it's a good idea to get into that too much. A variety of reasons, but a very basic one is that it's a bad adaptation of anime I like.
I think it's important to not be a dick about the issue - and so I do try - but nobody's perfect. :)
Regarding the video - speaking of Robotech sequels and the originals, I thought this video would go into the sequels -to- the originals... Mac Plus, 7, Macross Frontier... Good stuff, though sadly not much of it available in the US.
@scopeeyevideo Those are Macross sequels, not Robotech sequels. As this is primarily a series of Robotech-related videos, the only originals I felt it was appropriate to discuss where the three shows Robotech was adapted from. to go into the spin-offs of the originals would have been beyond the scope of the video, especially since they have no direct relation to Robotech. If I do a Macross video at some point (which I might), that's where I would cover those. Love DYRL and Plus.
@Zaranyzerak Whoops I should have read this before leaving the last comment, LOL. But yeah I did figure this was more to do with the English adapted version then the original Japanese. :)
Geeze! I had to use google's site search function to find this last part of your Robotech review/history. I'll just chock that up to Youtube's LAME new design. (Although your lack of putting "Part 4" in the title I'm sure didn't help.) I'm just glad I found it.
@goldenheartOh Weird...though each part is attached to each previous part as a video response, so you could have just gone to the next part by clicking on it in the responses.
Hi Sean, love your videos man, keep up the good work! Got a random question that has nothin to do with Robotech(although i do like it very much, the P.C.C. is great). Do you have any of the Dragonball series season sets, and if not, are you plannin on gettin them? Also would like to know what you think of them if you do end up gettin them. Maybe you could do a review of them since i find that for the most part i tend to agree with you on your video reviews. Have a good one, and take it easy.
wow thank you so much. iv been wanting to get into robotech for so long now but put off buying the discs because they didnt really make sense on the store shelf. these videos helped me a lot to grasp the overall idea of the robotech saga. Thanks again your videos are not only entertaining but very informative as well. Keep it up!
ah robotech... your the red headed step child of the sci-fi world. But i still love you.
I went through all the Sentinels paper backs when I was younger having been so starved and craized from robotech. remembering back on those stories now though i don't really remembering them being all that great. the majority of the alien races were pretty silly. and it became repetative the liberating each home world from the invid.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I agree about the numbering. I'm actually going to be putting up a remastered version of this series (along with all the old MMC episodes that aren't in proper 16x9 at the moment), so I'll be sure to add episode numbers for that version.
With the shadow chronicles reseting the sentinals saga it does mess up some of the story. You see I own the complete robotech graphic novel series and let me tell ya the last book of the sentinals was incredible........ if I say more I would ruin it honestly everyone should read the sentinals saga its only 5 or 6 books and I found my copies at a used book store for like a dollar a book. I you have watched everything macross like me and I do mean everything read the sentinals saga.
Well if you recall the model toy line had mecha from other anime shows including DOUGRAM and I think DORVACK among others. If Harmony Gold couldn't afford to make new episodes they should of stuck to what worked in the 1st place by using other anime series but I'd prefer them not altering the stories like they did mostly with Southern Cross and Megazone 23. DOUGRAM and DORVACK could of fit in the Robotech universe with no problem. Just have each series take place like a generation apart.
macross is still the best regardless, and at least macross stayed on the valks, they should release atleast macross 7 and macross frontier in the north america. as for the SDF macross, i might get it when i drop by a dvd store or when i see it in a convention or something, if they made me choose from robotech or macroos i will choose macross then watch, southern cross and mospeada, im asian and am an "anime purist" as you call them, i like them in the original form LOL anyways nice job there thx
Yeah but don't forget Transformers wasn't the only co. to borrow the Valkerie, Battletech used it too. If anything Macross the movie from Japan should of been used the Robotech movie but Macek thought it would be a bad idea because fans would just see a remake of the same story. A lot of fans disagree. And "Clash of the Bionoids" was a lot worse translation than Macek could of done. But there is a scarce complete english dub of Macross the movie out there done in Asia I have. Has better art too
Macek has talked about the origins of the bizarre mecha used in Sentinels like the robot horses etc. Apparently Southern Cross was supposed to have been 39 episodes long originally in Japan, he told us but due to low ratings they ended it at 23. They had some bizarre directions the series was to go in. It always bothered me how Harmony Gold refused to use Orguss or Macross the movie since they were truely related to the Super Dimensional series.
As for the movie called the Untold Story, what most folks see is the 2nd version and don't realize there was a earlier pre-Macek version that was never completed. Macek said the voice dubbing was much worse but the translation of Megazone 23 #1 was more accurately done with no Southern Cross footage. Too bad the plans for a Megazone 23 tv series never went through as was planned in Japan back then.
What I'd like to see is accurate dubs of Southern Cross and maybe Mospeada, speaking of which apparently Harmony Gold even did a pre-Robotech english dub of Mospeada too, but I've been unable to get any info on this version. All we ever could find was the 1st episode dubbed accurately and Scott is still called Stick. So any idea what the story behind this was? Or did they ever dub any more episodes?
BTW , as for Macross english dubs, you do realize that there was an english dub of it done even before Robotech was created? It was sold at conventions but only volume one bot released.
Yep, the original dub is included as a bonus in the Extras. They were originally going to release Macross direct to video, but only did the one volume. There's also an early dub of the first episode of Mospeada.
Actually they dubbed the whole series and more accurately than Robotech but only Vol.1 ever came out. Also the names they used were still different like Rick Hunter was called Rick Yamata in it and so on. I have the first volume but sure wish I could get the rest although it's kinda obsolete now with that new better purely accurate dub you talked about.
I'm guessing had they done a MOSPEADA 2 that then maybe Harmony Gold might of gone as far as to make a ROBOTECH 4 series out of that back then. But for better or worse that never happened.
Actually what may be of greater interest to you is that he talked about the Japanese company was considering releasing the Sentinels in Japan had it been completed , but as a new series but would change some footage , primarily the Macross charactor footage. I'm guessing then that had that been done and they made a new series using Sentinels footage that what they likely would of done would of been a MOSPEADA 2 series.
Sounds like your are a "Techie" too maybe? I saw your recent home video and thought I'd let you in on some info you may not have known. I have a bunch of old home video interviews of Macek etc and back in 1990 he did talk about the plans they had for the Sentinels sequel which was to be called ROBOTECH III : The Oddessy . Macek back then said that was as far as what He and Harmony Gold had planned had Sentinels been completed.
OMG thx god for this video. I still new into robotech/ macross, and I thought robotech was kinda off. I mean by 3 different types of shows into one. But now I know why. Thxs again
Well you see that's all the more reason why Harmony Gold should of included Orguss since that series had to do with mixing alternate universes together, thus they could explain away the unrelated Mospeada & Megazone 23 adaptions.
A lot of new Techies mistake Southern Cross as not being related to Macross , but it was the 3rd "Super Dimensional" series. Japan had 3 in all but we got unrelated Mospeada instead of Orguss. And Macek changed S.Cross to take place on Earth instead of another planet.
I suppose I'm the "anime purist", I want the original story but I grew up with the Robotech version that came on Cartoon Network. Thanks for the help though, now I know what to buy. I'm going to get that box set you have and the Super Dimensional Fortress Macross.
Yeah I prefer accurate dubs too. In fact there was a fan club back then that restored Robotech the movie (Megazone 23) to it's original format before the accurate dub came out. Fans think of this as a "3rd version" of Robotech the movie and it was more accurate in translation than the other 2 versions so that it could take place in the Robotech universe timeline too. After all look at MZ23's origin, It was after the Earth was totally messed up by war, much like Macross.
Hi Easy, and what was the point of Megatron turning into a gun? the mighty Megatron transforms into a gun and ...well lays there...and well lays there a bit longer till someone picks him up and does a dirty Harry with him. Japanese would never come up with something so lame.
Lol! I think that is one of the longest running debates in Transformers history. "Cool looking gun but...erm...he needs ANOTHER Decepticon to FIRE?" I remember an episode where STARSCREAM was firing Megatron and screaming, "I am INVINCIBLE!!!" Why didn't Megatron transform back to robot mode and whup his ass for that? Maybe his consciousness switches off when he;'s in gun mode or something...which would just make it even LESS sensible...
Hi there, talking of Transformers,Ive been in another debate with a Transformers fan who thinks that "Transformer like" robots are more realistic than the "Mechs" in Macross/Tech! I cant see how he could think that as the Macross mecha are realy just machines piloted by humans and the Optimus and his buddies have superior AI to humans!!!
Cant see a robot with that kind of AI being aound for a long long time, where as the Japanese are making robots now very much in the Mech style as just "working labour machines". Granted having a 50ft tall mech transforming into a jet at mach 2 is I think allot to ask for but Im sure piloted mecha are more likely than "Prime and his homeboys with attitude"
And also, Prime has a chest made of a truck windshield??? glass??? not allot of use when a Macross Destroid Tomahawk unit blasts him with an unbeleivable amount of armour peircing death. Oh...I forgot the Transformers are aliens...yer we dont know what their made of....give me a break.
Having said all that I was realy looking forward to the Transformers movie...till I saw it. Starting off realy well then it turned into something on a par with GOBOTS the worse robot show ever. Mind you they did have the sence to have Megatron turn into a jet ( oh Macross again then ) rather than a useless pistol. But what they did to soundwave??? whats that muppet looking thing???
Hi Easy and Zarany,Im sure your aware that a ROBOTECH LIVE ACTION MOVIE is planned with Toby Mguire producing. Hope they do it justice for Macross and Tech fans alike. I think Mechs will lend themselves realy well to CGI.
Yes Ive seen some of the ideas for mech design on youtube. Although Im a Macross fan I realy dont think that protoculture , singing music as a weapon type story line would work for a mass audience which is what the studio will want. So the ROBOTECH story arc is better suited plus allot of people probably know the name of Tech rather than Macross.
I realy dont see the general public accepting a girl singing a ballad to combat alien battle ships over an all out NUKE THE CRAP OUT OF EM senario. I can live with that as long as the story is something more than just battle after battle. Not saying I dont want to see Valkaries blasting a shed load of missiles at Zentradi cos I sure do!!! but it needs to have some depth at least or it has no weight to it.
Well looks like Ive missed allota stuff going down on this vid. Hey guys Ive got the generation1 Sky fire (its not jet fire) and it does indeed have the macross logo on it. I never thought about it till now. But that would explain why my other sky Fire looks nothing like the other dude and is much smaller. Allways knew something dodgy had gone on there. I thought I was in the know with this stuff but you guys have answerd shit Ive been driving my brain nuts over for a long time. Nice one.
It is Jet Fire they changed the name when they had to change the design, but then again it should have been called A DAMN VALKARIE ...damn it. But thats cool that you have that model its pretty rare now. Worth a bit too.
Yeah the Transformer series had to change the character design enough not to look like Macross's version. It's just like how TF also used mecha from DORVACK , and you know that would of made an alright chapter in Robotech back then since it was very simular to Mospeada.
And after that watch Macross II,Macross Plus,Macross 7,Macross 7 Dynamite,Macross Zero, and Macross Frontier. As for.....Robotech the sentinals.....what? a sequel to a series that never existed that was never completed.....just leave the original Japanese series as it is for the pitys sake,Macross is cool.....Robotech..phap.
If you had bothered to actually WATCH the videos instead of jumping to conclusions and spamming all of them with your elitist anime purist B.S., you would notice that I dedicated an entire part of my reviews to discussing the original Japanese versions. Blocked for spamming and for just being an closed minded idiot. Most REAL Macross fans don't even acknowledge Macross 7, Macross Frontier or Macross II as being worth watching either. So there. Your other comments have been removed.
Feel I have to side with Easyrider here, What in your mind is considerd worth watching in your Robotech universe??? Shadow Chronicles??? its .......rubbish. Robotech never was a real series , it was all made up by Harmony gold and Carl Macek, which is exactly what Easyrider has said, why block him? whats wrong with some else having an opinion. Doesnt make him a closed minded idiot at all ,makes you look like one though.
Sigh...did YOU watch the video? I talk about the original Japanese shows at length, and put them in the correct context as to their relationship to Robotech. What do I consider worth watching? Well, watch the videos and you'll know. I am FAR from closed minded, thank you very much.
Given that I acknowledge that BOTH versions have their place in anime history and are worthy of consideration, I would say that makes me quite open minded indeed. I don't LIMIT myself to one or the other.
It wasn't so much that he had a negative opinion, but saw fit to SPAM all three of my Robotech videos with it. The only one that it would actually relate to in any context is THIS part, no the other two. He clearly did not even watch the videos, and was just spouting his elitist nonsense, shoving his opinion in my face. I don't appreciate that kind of attitude from anyone, on ANY subject.
Did this video just show up in some anime forum or something? I haven't had comments on it in months.
I respect you sir for your open minded opinions in relation to these matters. Personally I prefer Macross but it doesn't deter my appreciation and enjoyement of Robotech. On it's own I think Robotech is a perfectly fine and good show but is not as good when contrasted with Macross. These revolting fanboys are some of the reasons why I'm disugsted with the anime fanbase
Oh and another thing, when you say that the REAL macross fans dont consider Macross Plus, 7,Dynamite, or Frontier worth watching??? who have you been getting your imfo from??? its totally wrong, Plus is considerd superb and Frontier.
I've bene getting my info by speaking to long time Macross fans and their opinions on those particular sequels. Simple as that. The general concensus seems to be....they're crap in comparison to masterpieces like the original Macross, the Do You Remember Love movie and Macross Plus.
Are you realy trying to tell me that real Macross fans think that Shadow Chronicles is in anyway superior to Macross Plus, or Frontier??? if you are your not taliking to real Macross fans at all. By the way I contacted Easyrider through mail shot and he did watch all your videos and realy enjoyed them, he was looking forward to some critique with you but as you have blocked him.....
Well, if he's looking for genuine discussion and critique, that's fine and I'll un-block him. But he came across as needlessly hostile, and spamming.
Try to keep some focus here - I made these videos for people who enjoy Robotech and were looking for some more info about the various DVD editions. That's it. It's a DVD review, which also provides some background about the show's origins. I even speak at length about all the different DVD releases of the original versions.
Ok thats all cool, Id ublock Easyrider if I were you hes got some ineresting stuff to say. He apoligies for spamming. Going back to what I said earlier about Plus and Frontier and for that matter Zero I cant beleive that Macross fans on your side of the pond dont consider them superb. Zero in particular.
Zero falls somewhere in between. Personally, I thought it had some nice moments and some fantastic animation, but just didn't have the same "magic" for me. Aside from the original (of course), my personal favorite is Plus. LOVED the music in that, and the story just really hooked me all the way through. I still have to see the movie version, only ever seen the mini-series version (about a bazillion times) :) I un-blocked easyrider, we all make mistakes.
I will let Easy know hes unblocked, have to go now but will be back with some more comments and questions later along with Easy I expect. Interesting talking to you.
As the years went by and after lots of searching scifi "stuff" I became aware that the series that I thought was so cool had been "butcherd" into something else and infact the saga I had known as Robotech was all a big made up hashmash of other anime.
@easyriderade at least you're not like some fo the revolting purist fanboys who simoly say DIE ROBOTECH.
In my view although I think Macross is by the better version, I am actually watching Robotech at the moment (I'm a new fan. I'm growing up in England where I don't think Robotech was ever shown here) And to be honest I actually really like and enjoy the show. On it's own I think Robotech is a good show but isn't as good compared to Macross.
The name was infact MACROSS SUPER DIMENTIONAL FORTRESS and they werent Varitechs but VALKARIES,there was no "flower of life" "Invid" and Protoculture had nothing to do with any kind of cosmic fuel! and was infact about breeding male and females of all things! After watching the original japanese it is clear that the "purist version" is by far better than Robotech.
To be more precise, the original Robotech was made from 3 series - Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada. The idea originally was to incorporate Super Dimension Century Orguss as well, but it was quickly realized that it would have been impossible to integrate into the other two due to there being so many non-human characters. So it WOULD have been strictly the Super Dimension shows, but changed in development.
I note that you actually afford Plus and Zero praise even though apparantley your Macross fans have told you they think they are "crap". Find that hard to beleive. Having said that Macross 7 .....not very good at all.
No no no, once again I'm being mis-quoted here. My "Macross fans," as you put it, LOVE Plus (Who in their right mind wouldn't? It was brilliant), and don't mind Zero (but feel it is inferior to Plus). 7, on the other hand...yeah. Seems we agree on that one.
Problem is now of course that a purpose made "USA anime" Shadow Chronicles has been made to carry on from Robotech with proper continuity...at the same time as new Macross series are being made! so do we now have two ongoing sagas in alternate universes? who gets to use the mech and Valkarie designs??? both series??? surely that cant happen? what do you think?
Wow that has realy got me thinking, hows that all gonna pan out, both Macross and Tech being made at the same time now with Tech having proper contniuty completely separate from Macross. PS. Tripwire said I should check out this, said it was gonna get deep.
Well, I don't think it's as big an issue as you make it out to be. For example, even within "non-butchered" anime shows, there are numerous cases where there have been concurrent, unrelated storylines. Take the Gundam universe. We started with the Universal Century timeline, then got a bunch of sequels that weren't even related but actually take place in alternate universes. Or how about Ghost in the Shell? GITS 2: Innocence was released at the same time GITS: Stand Alone Complex was airing
(cont'd, GITS stuff) Botht eh movies and the series have different continuities, neither related to the other. Then to ADD to the confusion, there's also a Stand Alone Complex movie. So now, I don't see the fact that there is a sequel to Robotech being made a problem, or confusing to those who are fans of the new/old Macross. There are HUGE fanbases for both versions, and most informed fans are not only aware of both, but enjoy them both as individual stories.
Voltron did the same thing a year earlier. Married two completely unrelated series to form a larger saga. Then, when Lion force Voltron proved to be so popular, they constructed an entire additional SEASON, with the help of the original production company. So the original company made NEW animation specifically for the Americanized version. Voltron shares the honor with Robotech (and Star Blazers) for introducing anime to many people. They all have their place in anime history.
Hi there, I agree with some of your comments regarding unrelated storylines, Macross II for example where the SDF1 gets obliterated by the Lord Ingus ship and then in later Macross is somehow restored and undamaged? and yer I know the explanation given is its in an alternate universe etc. ...and isnt considerd cannon...then why make it. Things were confusing enough with Robotech being around. I note you didnt touch on Macross II lovers again in your vids. Any reason?
I didn't mention MAcross II (or any of the other Macross sequels), because this particular series of videos was specifcally about the various Robotech video releases and others directly related to it. So, I spent quite a bit of time talking about the original Japanese versions and the Videos/DVDs available of those, but that's it. To go into ALL the Macross spin-offs would take a series of videos of its own. I might tackle that at some point, but not at the moment.
Think on this, (and I think you said something along these lines yourself). If a japanese company took Star Trek,Star Wars, and Battle Star Galactica cut em up messed em around changed the dialogue and the totally alterd the story then put them out all spliced together under some title like "Space Wars" as a series Im sure that Trek fans etc. would be up in arms about it. Thats how I feel about robotech . You get my point.
Yep, I've actually heard that comparison before (and used it myself when trying to explain how three different shows were amalgamated into one). Though I usually throw Babylon 5 into the mix... ;) but yes, I completely understand where you're coming from and I know there's a LOT of fans out there who share your views. Myself, I enjoy both for different reasons. I like the epic story that came out of that amalgamation, and I enjoy the originals as well.
I note that you have tried to cover all the releases of Robotech but I have a version not mentioned, it came in a wooden (yes wooden) painted and embossed box with every Tech episode in a wallet like book. Ever seen it? Also any chance of a Macross dvd review? trying to cover all releases past and present?
Oooh, neat! I haven't heard about that one! I'll have to look it up. I focussed specifically on Region 1 releases, it would have taken a few more parts to go into ALL the releases over the years. I mainly just wanted to give a general sense of the sheer number of releases from over the years, how long it took for us to FINALLY get the original Japanese shows in their entirety, then focus mainly on releases that are currently available. I'd like to do a Macross one at some point, sure!
Just one last gripe, Transformers....every time some comes to my house and sees my Macross collection of Mechs etc......oh your into Transformers....NO IM NOT DO YOU SEE ANY VW BEETLES OR CASSETE PLAYERS ON MY SHELF??? or its "oh the Japanese have COPIED transformers....that one looks just like Jet Fire".....frustrates the heck out of me, I know it shouldnt but it does.
Tell me about it, if they hadnt allterd the look of Jet Fire for the cartoon with his stupid smiley face and fat front nose cone you would have had a damn Valkarie flying around in Transformers!!! Imagine it, the kids, oh that Macross thing copied our cool Jet Fire from Transformers. Some of the gen 1 Jet Fires even have the MACROSS INSIGNIA ON EM!!!???
I actually still have my Jetfire toy from back in the day. Apparently it's highly sought after these days by Transformers, Macross and Robotech fans alike. All the more reason for me to hang on to it. Gotta love having bragging rights. ;) I know mine definitely has the Autobot symbol on it, though. I wonder how much the ones with the Macross insignia go for in comparison? I would think they would be much rarer.
Lol! Too true, that was a blatant bit of plagiarism. So much so that they weren't even allowed to use the same design for the character in the cartoon, hence the face rather than the cooler Valkyrie head design. I seem to recall there was some weird story behind that, but it eludes me at the moment. (I like Transformers too, but I would never pretend that's it's anywhere NEAR the same level of story as Macross/Robotech).
When did I say anything about Shadow Chronicles? That isn't what I said at all. I said that real Macross fans (that I have spoken to and read discussions between) generally agree that nothing tops the original Macross, the DYRL movie and Macross Plus. That the other sequels are inferior to those. As someone who has been a fan of both versions since the 80's, I concur with that assessment. I have ALL the Macross series' in one form or another (fansubs, official releases, etc.).
Some of the sequels were OKAY, but nowhere near the sheer greatness of the three I mentioned.
As for Shadow Chronicles, it's a fine sequel to ROBOTECH, and I look forward to seeing where they go with it in future installments. But I never compared it to ANY of the Macross shows/movies (that would be a ridiculous and pointless comparison), I have no idea where you got that from.
Hi there , no offence meant earlier. I have a problem with Robotech for a couple of reasons, the Macross series was far better than Southern cross,or Mospeader, and I dont think that Harmony Gold married them all together at all well. Even when I was a kid and was only aware of Robotech I remember thinking "this isnt the same series at all? wheres the Varitechs? Even back then it just didnt gell together.
That's fine, you just came across a tad harsh in your original comments, and I just assumed you were going to be one of "those" fans (you know what I mean).
I understand your point (having been a fan since Robotech was new, I've heard it all before), but at the same time can't deny the fact that Robotech helped introduce anime to at least a couple of generations, and also helped pave the way for MORE anime to be brought over here by showing it is marketable on our shores.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ROBOTECH ONLY MACROSS! As for the Shadow chronicles its a sequel thats for a series that never existed! Watch the original japanese Macross series not robotech.....the flower of life?,protoculture fuel?,Invid aliens? all a bunch of American rubbish!
In your series you've spoken about the many editions of Robotech put out on VHS, Laser Disc, and DVD. But what I really want is a remastered protuculture edition on the current format of Blu-ray. This would blown me away, but I do fear there may be technical issues in displaying a true HD image of these shows as original film elements/cels and what not may be either destroyed, gone, or unrestorable within a given budget considering the perceived relatively low demand for a Hi-Def Robotech.
Hi, it might also be worthwhile to mention Robotech: The Untold Story (original anime was Megazone23). I really liked the whole idea of a guy running loose around town in the garland mecha, with everyone on his tail. It sort of reminded me of Blue Thunder, in that sense.
Yeah, I have a bootleg of that (and the original Megazone 23 movie it was re-edited from). The main reason I didn't mention it is, it's never been released officially. I wanted to focus specifically on what's actually available.
maybe something will contradict later on. I still love the sentinels movie, it's a nice bridge between the first and second generation. Third, if u wanna c the original macross that he is talking about, with the original mimmei voice, english dub, and on high definition, look on youtube for "SDF Macross". They have it, I've been watching it, it's pretty cool!
OK, first I wanna thank you for the clarifications because I'm a huge robotech fan, but I'm still a little confused about the whole Macross thing. Second...WHAT!!! The Sentinels "movie" is not considered canon anymore? then why did they include it in the blue box set? and please don't think I'm blaming you...you r right, I'm just upset with the people who decided the Sentinels movie is not canon anymore, and like u said, nothing SO FAR contradicts it, but...
Very good job, sir. You followed through on all four parts! I'll be checking out Robotech very soon. I'm a huge fan of Transformers, so I'm sure I'll like Robotech as well. Thanks for the info!
Hope you carry on doing these my friend, ive just re-watched you British sci-fi vid and im looking forward to your views on doctor who having been a big fan myself.
"If you're too lazy to read subtitles" What wrong with watching anime in english?

Robotech doesnt exist. Watch Macross, Southern Cross and Genesis Climber. If you want you can watch Orguss.

That pretty much covers Robotech, but Macross continues, and continues.....and continues. :D Maybe one day you'll do an extra add on video explaining the continuation of Macross. Oh and I've just brought Robotech on DVD here in the UK to try out. :)
David315842 1 year ago
@David315842 Oh wow, you've never seen Robotech??? My friend, you are in for a TREAT! That was probably my number 1 favorite animated show growing up. Influential to me in soooo many ways...
Zaranyzerak 1 year ago
@Zaranyzerak Wow I actually shocked you. Well I've never seen it due to the fact that like Voltron it wasen't ported over here, or at least it did but it didn't really get noticed. However the folks at Manga Entertainment have released the re-mastered editions on DVD here in the UK, probably due to the fact they went out of their way to distribute Macross Plus and Macross II: The Movie etc. I decided to give it a go since it has a few familar voice actors providing voices for the characters...
David315842 1 year ago
@David315842 Plus the robots. :D Yep I've seen on Part 2 how into Robotech you were. A pity that those toys never took off, though in the case of the Valkayre there was some copyright issues, or at least there were with the Jetfire/Skyffire character from Transformers. One or the other. :D
David315842 1 year ago
@David315842 Oh and I al;so brought the Shadow Chronicles too. :)
David315842 1 year ago
@David315842 Nice! Yeah, the Valkyrie copyright issue was on the Transformers side. I actually have the original Jetfire toy, and it is 100% a Valkyrie. :) Make sure you wait until after the series to watch Shadow Chronicles, you'll get way more out of it that way (plus it's a direct continuation of the series that picks up right where it ends). Hopefully your set also includes Robotech II: The Sentinels, all that was completed of the first attempt at a sequel/sidequel.
Zaranyzerak 1 year ago
@Zaranyzerak Ah that would explain why the Robotech toys didn't do well...in part. Oh don't worry I'll be sure to watch the series in chronological order from Macross, then Masters, New Generation and then Shadow Chronicles. It would make a very interesting transition from Cam Clarke and well known english anime voice actors that provided voices for the occasional monster in Power Rangers to Mark Hamill. :D Maybe one day I'll see the Sentinels, even if it has to be on video.
David315842 1 year ago
@David315842 This guy forgot about Macross Alpha, Macross 7, Macross Plus and Frontier
CaptCamping 1 year ago
@CaptCamping If you read the comments, Zaranyzerak said that he only primarily focused on the 'Robotech' titles and the series that they were adapted from and NOT any of the sequels, prequels etc. that came from the original source material. He'll do a seperate video on that one day.
David315842 1 year ago
@CaptCamping I most certainly did not forget any of those. They were not relevant to the focus of this video, which was Robotech and the shows that it was adapted from. I may do a video about the various Macross sequels at some point. But as this is about Robotech, and not just Macross and its various incarnations/sequels, it was beyond the scope of the topic to cover them here.

Hey can someone tell me why people hate Robotech so much? Let me be honest I love both Macross and Robotech so shoot me!
slyther2 1 year ago
@slyther2 I don't think it's a good idea to get into that too much. A variety of reasons, but a very basic one is that it's a bad adaptation of anime I like.
I think it's important to not be a dick about the issue - and so I do try - but nobody's perfect. :)
Regarding the video - speaking of Robotech sequels and the originals, I thought this video would go into the sequels -to- the originals... Mac Plus, 7, Macross Frontier... Good stuff, though sadly not much of it available in the US.
scopeeyevideo 1 year ago
@scopeeyevideo Those are Macross sequels, not Robotech sequels. As this is primarily a series of Robotech-related videos, the only originals I felt it was appropriate to discuss where the three shows Robotech was adapted from. to go into the spin-offs of the originals would have been beyond the scope of the video, especially since they have no direct relation to Robotech. If I do a Macross video at some point (which I might), that's where I would cover those. Love DYRL and Plus.
Zaranyzerak 1 year ago
@Zaranyzerak Yeah, I get where you're coming from there... it's more a matter of me misreading the title of the video than anything, I'd say. :)
And now... ANIME PURIST RAGE ATTACK! HIKARU GRAAR!

Have a good one, and take it easy.

wow thank you so much. iv been wanting to get into robotech for so long now but put off buying the discs because they didnt really make sense on the store shelf. these videos helped me a lot to grasp the overall idea of the robotech saga. ah robotech... your the red headed step child of the sci-fi world. But i still love you.
I went through all the Sentinels paper backs when I was younger having been so starved and craized from robotech. remembering back on those stories now though i don't really remembering them being all that great. the majority of the alien races were pretty silly. and it became repetative the liberating each home world from the invid.
The Zentraedi Rebellion was a good read though!

I really enjoyed watching your over view of the shows releaces however I think this could benefit form maybe numbering the episodes.
Disthron 2 years ago

KAISERANIME 2 years ago
macross is still the best regardless, and at least macross stayed on the valks, they should release atleast macross 7 and macross frontier in the north america. as for the SDF macross, i might get it when i drop by a dvd store or when i see it in a convention or something, if they made me choose from robotech or macroos i will choose macross then watch, southern cross and mospeada, im asian and am an "anime purist" as you call them, i like them in the original form LOL anyways nice job there thx
lanoche 2 years ago 2
Yeah but don't forget Transformers wasn't the only co. to borrow the Valkerie, Battletech used it too. If anything Macross the movie from Japan should of been used the Robotech movie but Macek thought it would be a bad idea because fans would just see a remake of the same story. A lot of fans disagree. And "Clash of the Bionoids" was a lot worse translation than Macek could of done. But there is a scarce complete english dub of Macross the movie out there done in Asia I have. Has better art too
KAISERANIME 2 years ago
Macek has talked about the origins of the bizarre mecha used in Sentinels like the robot horses etc. Apparently Southern Cross was supposed to have been 39 episodes long originally in Japan, he told us but due to low ratings they ended it at 23. They had some bizarre directions the series was to go in. It always bothered me how Harmony Gold refused to use Orguss or Macross the movie since they were truely related to the Super Dimensional series.
KAISERANIME 2 years ago
As for the movie called the Untold Story, what most folks see is the 2nd version and don't realize there was a earlier pre-Macek version that was never completed. Macek said the voice dubbing was much worse but the translation of Megazone 23 #1 was more accurately done with no Southern Cross footage. Too bad the plans for a Megazone 23 tv series never went through as was planned in Japan back then.
KAISERANIME 2 years ago
What I'd like to see is accurate dubs of Southern Cross and maybe Mospeada, speaking of which apparently Harmony Gold even did a pre-Robotech english dub of Mospeada too, but I've been unable to get any info on this version. All we ever could find was the 1st episode dubbed accurately and Scott is still called Stick. So any idea what the story behind this was? Or did they ever dub any more episodes?
KAISERANIME 2 years ago
BTW , as for Macross english dubs, you do realize that there was an english dub of it done even before Robotech was created? It was sold at conventions but only volume one bot released.
KAISERANIME 2 years ago
Yep, the original dub is included as a bonus in the Extras. They were originally going to release Macross direct to video, but only did the one volume. There's also an early dub of the first episode of Mospeada.
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
Actually they dubbed the whole series and more accurately than Robotech but only Vol.1 ever came out. Also the names they used were still different like Rick Hunter was called Rick Yamata in it and so on. I have the first volume but sure wish I could get the rest although it's kinda obsolete now with that new better purely accurate dub you talked about.
KAISERANIME 2 years ago
I'm guessing had they done a MOSPEADA 2 that then maybe Harmony Gold might of gone as far as to make a ROBOTECH 4 series out of that back then. But for better or worse that never happened.
KAISERANIME 2 years ago
Actually what may be of greater interest to you is that he talked about the Japanese company was considering releasing the Sentinels in Japan had it been completed , but as a new series but would change some footage , primarily the Macross charactor footage. I'm guessing then that had that been done and they made a new series using Sentinels footage that what they likely would of done would of been a MOSPEADA 2 series.
KAISERANIME 2 years ago
Sounds like your are a "Techie" too maybe? I saw your recent home video and thought I'd let you in on some info you may not have known. I have a bunch of old home video interviews of Macek etc and back in 1990 he did talk about the plans they had for the Sentinels sequel which was to be called ROBOTECH III : The Oddessy . Macek back then said that was as far as what He and Harmony Gold had planned had Sentinels been completed.
KAISERANIME 2 years ago
OMG thx god for this video. I still new into robotech/ macross, and I thought robotech was kinda off. I mean by 3 different types of shows into one. But now I know why. Thxs again
nmlvaio 3 years ago
Well you see that's all the more reason why Harmony Gold should of included Orguss since that series had to do with mixing alternate universes together, thus they could explain away the unrelated Mospeada & Megazone 23 adaptions.
KAISERANIME 2 years ago
A lot of new Techies mistake Southern Cross as not being related to Macross , but it was the 3rd "Super Dimensional" series. Japan had 3 in all but we got unrelated Mospeada instead of Orguss. And Macek changed S.Cross to take place on Earth instead of another planet.
KAISERANIME 2 years ago
will the full series come out on blu ray????
stevros48 3 years ago
I suppose I'm the "anime purist", I want the original story but I grew up with the Robotech version that came on Cartoon Network. Thanks for the help though, now I know what to buy. I'm going to get that box set you have and the Super Dimensional Fortress Macross.
Maximusmadrica 3 years ago
Yeah I prefer accurate dubs too. In fact there was a fan club back then that restored Robotech the movie (Megazone 23) to it's original format before the accurate dub came out. Fans think of this as a "3rd version" of Robotech the movie and it was more accurate in translation than the other 2 versions so that it could take place in the Robotech universe timeline too. After all look at MZ23's origin, It was after the Earth was totally messed up by war, much like Macross.
KAISERANIME 2 years ago
Hi Easy, and what was the point of Megatron turning into a gun? the mighty Megatron transforms into a gun and ...well lays there...and well lays there a bit longer till someone picks him up and does a dirty Harry with him. Japanese would never come up with something so lame.
Tripwireguys 3 years ago
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
Hi there, talking of Transformers,Ive been in another debate with a Transformers fan who thinks that "Transformer like" robots are more realistic than the "Mechs" in Macross/Tech! I cant see how he could think that as the Macross mecha are realy just machines piloted by humans and the Optimus and his buddies have superior AI to humans!!!
easyriderade 3 years ago
Cant see a robot with that kind of AI being aound for a long long time, where as the Japanese are making robots now very much in the Mech style as just "working labour machines". Granted having a 50ft tall mech transforming into a jet at mach 2 is I think allot to ask for but Im sure piloted mecha are more likely than "Prime and his homeboys with attitude"
easyriderade 3 years ago
And also, Prime has a chest made of a truck windshield??? glass??? not allot of use when a Macross Destroid Tomahawk unit blasts him with an unbeleivable amount of armour peircing death. Oh...I forgot the Transformers are aliens...yer we dont know what their made of....give me a break.
easyriderade 3 years ago
Having said all that I was realy looking forward to the Transformers movie...till I saw it. Starting off realy well then it turned into something on a par with GOBOTS the worse robot show ever. Mind you they did have the sence to have Megatron turn into a jet ( oh Macross again then ) rather than a useless pistol. But what they did to soundwave??? whats that muppet looking thing???
easyriderade 3 years ago
Hi Easy and Zarany,Im sure your aware that a ROBOTECH LIVE ACTION MOVIE is planned with Toby Mguire producing. Hope they do it justice for Macross and Tech fans alike. I think Mechs will lend themselves realy well to CGI.
Tripwireguys 3 years ago
Yes Ive seen some of the ideas for mech design on youtube. Although Im a Macross fan I realy dont think that protoculture , singing music as a weapon type story line would work for a mass audience which is what the studio will want. So the ROBOTECH story arc is better suited plus allot of people probably know the name of Tech rather than Macross.
easyriderade 3 years ago
I realy dont see the general public accepting a girl singing a ballad to combat alien battle ships over an all out NUKE THE CRAP OUT OF EM senario. I can live with that as long as the story is something more than just battle after battle. Not saying I dont want to see Valkaries blasting a shed load of missiles at Zentradi cos I sure do!!! but it needs to have some depth at least or it has no weight to it.
easyriderade 3 years ago
Well looks like Ive missed allota stuff going down on this vid. Hey guys Ive got the generation1 Sky fire (its not jet fire) and it does indeed have the macross logo on it. I never thought about it till now. But that would explain why my other sky Fire looks nothing like the other dude and is much smaller. Allways knew something dodgy had gone on there. I thought I was in the know with this stuff but you guys have answerd shit Ive been driving my brain nuts over for a long time. Nice one.
baronbazza 3 years ago
It is Jet Fire they changed the name when they had to change the design, but then again it should have been called A DAMN VALKARIE ...damn it. But thats cool that you have that model its pretty rare now. Worth a bit too.
easyriderade 3 years ago
Yeah the Transformer series had to change the character design enough not to look like Macross's version. It's just like how TF also used mecha from DORVACK , and you know that would of made an alright chapter in Robotech back then since it was very simular to Mospeada.

Popular early anime in Japan with the classic VOLTRON-type team driving five racing cars that combine to create...
One HUGE ASS RACING Car.
To fight the Demon Motor Company.
Which intends to take over the world by winning auto races.

easyriderade 3 years ago
If you had bothered to actually WATCH the videos instead of jumping to conclusions and spamming all of them with your elitist anime purist B.S., you would notice that I dedicated an entire part of my reviews to discussing the original Japanese versions. Blocked for spamming and for just being an closed minded idiot. Most REAL Macross fans don't even acknowledge Macross 7, Macross Frontier or Macross II as being worth watching either. So there. Your other comments have been removed.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
Feel I have to side with Easyrider here, What in your mind is considerd worth watching in your Robotech universe??? Shadow Chronicles??? its .......rubbish. Robotech never was a real series , it was all made up by Harmony gold and Carl Macek, which is exactly what Easyrider has said, why block him? whats wrong with some else having an opinion. Doesnt make him a closed minded idiot at all ,makes you look like one though.
Tripwireguys 3 years ago
Sigh...did YOU watch the video? I talk about the original Japanese shows at length, and put them in the correct context as to their relationship to Robotech. What do I consider worth watching? Well, watch the videos and you'll know. I am FAR from closed minded, thank you very much.
Given that I acknowledge that BOTH versions have their place in anime history and are worthy of consideration, I would say that makes me quite open minded indeed. I don't LIMIT myself to one or the other.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
It wasn't so much that he had a negative opinion, but saw fit to SPAM all three of my Robotech videos with it. The only one that it would actually relate to in any context is THIS part, no the other two. He clearly did not even watch the videos, and was just spouting his elitist nonsense, shoving his opinion in my face. I don't appreciate that kind of attitude from anyone, on ANY subject.
Did this video just show up in some anime forum or something? I haven't had comments on it in months.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
I respect you sir for your open minded opinions in relation to these matters. Personally I prefer Macross but it doesn't deter my appreciation and enjoyement of Robotech. On it's own I think Robotech is a perfectly fine and good show but is not as good when contrasted with Macross. These revolting fanboys are some of the reasons why I'm disugsted with the anime fanbase
slyther2 1 year ago
Oh and another thing, when you say that the REAL macross fans dont consider Macross Plus, 7,Dynamite, or Frontier worth watching??? who have you been getting your imfo from??? its totally wrong, Plus is considerd superb and Frontier.
Tripwireguys 3 years ago
I've bene getting my info by speaking to long time Macross fans and their opinions on those particular sequels. Simple as that. The general concensus seems to be....they're crap in comparison to masterpieces like the original Macross, the Do You Remember Love movie and Macross Plus.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
Are you realy trying to tell me that real Macross fans think that Shadow Chronicles is in anyway superior to Macross Plus, or Frontier??? if you are your not taliking to real Macross fans at all. By the way I contacted Easyrider through mail shot and he did watch all your videos and realy enjoyed them, he was looking forward to some critique with you but as you have blocked him.....
Tripwireguys 3 years ago
Well, if he's looking for genuine discussion and critique, that's fine and I'll un-block him. But he came across as needlessly hostile, and spamming.
Try to keep some focus here - I made these videos for people who enjoy Robotech and were looking for some more info about the various DVD editions. That's it. It's a DVD review, which also provides some background about the show's origins. I even speak at length about all the different DVD releases of the original versions.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
Ok thats all cool, Id ublock Easyrider if I were you hes got some ineresting stuff to say. He apoligies for spamming. Going back to what I said earlier about Plus and Frontier and for that matter Zero I cant beleive that Macross fans on your side of the pond dont consider them superb. Zero in particular.
Tripwireguys 3 years ago
Zero falls somewhere in between. Personally, I thought it had some nice moments and some fantastic animation, but just didn't have the same "magic" for me. Aside from the original (of course), my personal favorite is Plus. LOVED the music in that, and the story just really hooked me all the way through. I still have to see the movie version, only ever seen the mini-series version (about a bazillion times) :) I un-blocked easyrider, we all make mistakes.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
I will let Easy know hes unblocked, have to go now but will be back with some more comments and questions later along with Easy I expect. Interesting talking to you.
Tripwireguys 3 years ago
As the years went by and after lots of searching scifi "stuff" I became aware that the series that I thought was so cool had been "butcherd" into something else and infact the saga I had known as Robotech was all a big made up hashmash of other anime.
easyriderade 3 years ago
@easyriderade at least you're not like some fo the revolting purist fanboys who simoly say DIE ROBOTECH.
In my view although I think Macross is by the better version, I am actually watching Robotech at the moment (I'm a new fan. I'm growing up in England where I don't think Robotech was ever shown here) And to be honest I actually really like and enjoy the show. On it's own I think Robotech is a good show but isn't as good compared to Macross.
slyther2 1 year ago
The name was infact MACROSS SUPER DIMENTIONAL FORTRESS and they werent Varitechs but VALKARIES,there was no "flower of life" "Invid" and Protoculture had nothing to do with any kind of cosmic fuel! and was infact about breeding male and females of all things! After watching the original japanese it is clear that the "purist version" is by far better than Robotech.
easyriderade 3 years ago
To be more precise, the original Robotech was made from 3 series - Super Dimensional Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada. The idea originally was to incorporate Super Dimension Century Orguss as well, but it was quickly realized that it would have been impossible to integrate into the other two due to there being so many non-human characters. So it WOULD have been strictly the Super Dimension shows, but changed in development.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
I note that you actually afford Plus and Zero praise even though apparantley your Macross fans have told you they think they are "crap". Find that hard to beleive. Having said that Macross 7 .....not very good at all.
easyriderade 3 years ago
No no no, once again I'm being mis-quoted here. My "Macross fans," as you put it, LOVE Plus (Who in their right mind wouldn't? It was brilliant), and don't mind Zero (but feel it is inferior to Plus). 7, on the other hand...yeah. Seems we agree on that one.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
Problem is now of course that a purpose made "USA anime" Shadow Chronicles has been made to carry on from Robotech with proper continuity...at the same time as new Macross series are being made! so do we now have two ongoing sagas in alternate universes? who gets to use the mech and Valkarie designs??? both series??? surely that cant happen? what do you think?
easyriderade 3 years ago
Wow that has realy got me thinking, hows that all gonna pan out, both Macross and Tech being made at the same time now with Tech having proper contniuty completely separate from Macross. PS. Tripwire said I should check out this, said it was gonna get deep.
baronbazza 3 years ago
Well, I don't think it's as big an issue as you make it out to be. For example, even within "non-butchered" anime shows, there are numerous cases where there have been concurrent, unrelated storylines. Take the Gundam universe. We started with the Universal Century timeline, then got a bunch of sequels that weren't even related but actually take place in alternate universes. Or how about Ghost in the Shell? GITS 2: Innocence was released at the same time GITS: Stand Alone Complex was airing
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
(cont'd, GITS stuff) Botht eh movies and the series have different continuities, neither related to the other. Then to ADD to the confusion, there's also a Stand Alone Complex movie. So now, I don't see the fact that there is a sequel to Robotech being made a problem, or confusing to those who are fans of the new/old Macross. There are HUGE fanbases for both versions, and most informed fans are not only aware of both, but enjoy them both as individual stories.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
Voltron did the same thing a year earlier. Married two completely unrelated series to form a larger saga. Then, when Lion force Voltron proved to be so popular, they constructed an entire additional SEASON, with the help of the original production company. So the original company made NEW animation specifically for the Americanized version. Voltron shares the honor with Robotech (and Star Blazers) for introducing anime to many people. They all have their place in anime history.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
Hi there, I agree with some of your comments regarding unrelated storylines, Macross II for example where the SDF1 gets obliterated by the Lord Ingus ship and then in later Macross is somehow restored and undamaged? and yer I know the explanation given is its in an alternate universe etc. ...and isnt considerd cannon...then why make it. Things were confusing enough with Robotech being around. I note you didnt touch on Macross II lovers again in your vids. Any reason?
easyriderade 3 years ago
I didn't mention MAcross II (or any of the other Macross sequels), because this particular series of videos was specifcally about the various Robotech video releases and others directly related to it. So, I spent quite a bit of time talking about the original Japanese versions and the Videos/DVDs available of those, but that's it. To go into ALL the Macross spin-offs would take a series of videos of its own. I might tackle that at some point, but not at the moment.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
Think on this, (and I think you said something along these lines yourself). If a japanese company took Star Trek,Star Wars, and Battle Star Galactica cut em up messed em around changed the dialogue and the totally alterd the story then put them out all spliced together under some title like "Space Wars" as a series Im sure that Trek fans etc. would be up in arms about it. Thats how I feel about robotech . You get my point.
easyriderade 3 years ago
Yep, I've actually heard that comparison before (and used it myself when trying to explain how three different shows were amalgamated into one). Though I usually throw Babylon 5 into the mix... ;) but yes, I completely understand where you're coming from and I know there's a LOT of fans out there who share your views. Myself, I enjoy both for different reasons. I like the epic story that came out of that amalgamation, and I enjoy the originals as well.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
there wouldn't happen because of 1
Star trek and Battle Galactica are series
Star Wars is a movie.
2. they not done by the same creater like
Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeda.
3.they don't had much in common.
Neoguest 2 years ago 2
I note that you have tried to cover all the releases of Robotech but I have a version not mentioned, it came in a wooden (yes wooden) painted and embossed box with every Tech episode in a wallet like book. Ever seen it? Also any chance of a Macross dvd review? trying to cover all releases past and present?
easyriderade 3 years ago

Just one last gripe, Transformers....every time some comes to my house and sees my Macross collection of Mechs etc......oh your into Transformers....NO IM NOT DO YOU SEE ANY VW BEETLES OR CASSETE PLAYERS ON MY SHELF??? or its "oh the Japanese have COPIED transformers....that one looks just like Jet Fire".....frustrates the heck out of me, I know it shouldnt but it does.
easyriderade 3 years ago
Jet fire was the most outrageous act of copying someone elses work , Im not surprised they had to change the look for the cartoon.
Tripwireguys 3 years ago
Tell me about it, if they hadnt allterd the look of Jet Fire for the cartoon with his stupid smiley face and fat front nose cone you would have had a damn Valkarie flying around in Transformers!!! Imagine it, the kids, oh that Macross thing copied our cool Jet Fire from Transformers. Some of the gen 1 Jet Fires even have the MACROSS INSIGNIA ON EM!!!???
easyriderade 3 years ago

Zaranyzerak 3 years ago

Even back then it just didnt gell together.
easyriderade 3 years ago
That's fine, you just came across a tad harsh in your original comments, and I just assumed you were going to be one of "those" fans (you know what I mean).
I understand your point (having been a fan since Robotech was new, I've heard it all before), but at the same time can't deny the fact that Robotech helped introduce anime to at least a couple of generations, and also helped pave the way for MORE anime to be brought over here by showing it is marketable on our shores.
Zaranyzerak 3 years ago
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ROBOTECH ONLY MACROSS! As for the Shadow chronicles its a sequel thats for a series that never existed! Watch the original japanese Macross series not robotech.....the flower of life?,protoculture fuel?,Invid aliens? all a bunch of American rubbish!
easyriderade 3 years ago

It sort of reminded me of Blue Thunder, in that sense.
manofsan 3 years ago
Yeah, I have a bootleg of that (and the original Megazone 23 movie it was re-edited from). The main reason I didn't mention it is, it's never been released officially. I wanted to focus specifically on what's actually available.

maybe something will contradict later on. I still love the sentinels movie, it's a nice bridge between the first and second generation. Third, if u wanna c the original macross that he is talking about, with the original mimmei voice, english dub, and on high definition, look on youtube for "SDF Macross". They have it, I've been watching it, it's pretty cool!
chilemeli 3 years ago
OK, first I wanna thank you for the clarifications because I'm a huge robotech fan, but I'm still a little confused about the whole Macross thing. Second...WHAT!!! The Sentinels "movie" is not considered canon anymore? then why did they include it in the blue box set? and please don't think I'm blaming you...you r right, I'm just upset with the people who decided the Sentinels movie is not canon anymore, and like u said, nothing SO FAR contradicts it, but...

I swear you know everything about film/tv, I've never even heard of Robotech!

Very good job, sir. You followed through on all four parts! I'll be checking out Robotech very soon. I'm a huge fan of Transformers, so I'm sure I'll like Robotech as well. Thanks for the info!
