You so obviously love your dad and value his experience and wisdom. Great production value in intro too. I am hearing, but taught my babies and my dog (he's a service dog) signing. It was a great way to communicate before they had the actual skills to speak. Okay, well the dog is still working on the speaking part, but he makes up for it in all the other stuff he helps me with. One of my daughters even went on to pursue ASL in college. Thanks
@Guitarrgirl Thanks so much for your comment, Melissa! This has been a labor of love that I am happy people are enjoying. I am focused and determined to play in the new media landscape, and really enjoy the interaction with others! How did you learn ASL to teach? I have been trying to train the dogs as my new 'pet' project (har har), it's a constant task, but so is everything in life! I appreciate your support :D
in re: to your qq earlier about what you should discuss with your dad - Im especially curious what his take on work ethics "back then" and today. My dad talks about this OFTEN - hes been at his company for 30+ years and hes always joking about how the newbies are such kids. ;) Another area would be media/social media/news - Im very curious as to what hed say abt that too! :)
@itsjustkitty Yeah, It's a huge point of contention these days. The hardest thing I have expressing with/to him is the understanding that we romanticize the past. Everything is always better "before", for all we know, kids are more active (maybe not physically) but mentally, we're engaged and active on levels never before available to a society! That's pretty phenomenal, no? does the physical output of someone's character really matter?
btw, I think they make vibrating bluetooth for cellphones. I think it only let you know someone is calling, but the bad part is that it doesn't let you know someone texted you or anything so total worthless for a deaf person since not all of them can hear on the phone.
@DeafBirdsEyeNews Do you think that could be adjusted to receive a doorbell? Sometimes the phone is not the issue, it's people at the door. But I get what you're saying. I'm sure my dad has something to say about wearing a bracelet, too.
@CalculusRocks lol thanks so much. I hope he carries through with it. Sometimes my dad lets things drop by the way side. It can be a point of contention sometimes. Perhaps that's what I'll talk about next week? I really appreciate you enjoying the episodes. what else can I do for you? :D
Hey Alex. Really enjoyed this. Thanks for posting. :) I have a most likely naive question, but am asking sincerely so I appreciate your understanding. -- If you are not deaf yourself, why, when you sign, do you seemingly mouth the words too yet the mouthing is rather off? Is it to mimic how your father might mouth them? I haven't seen other hearing individuals sign and mouth to deaf individuals in the style that you do. Thanks ahead of time for your answer! -'Best, Ar
@RelDavi103 Hi there! Thanks so much for watching. As a CODA (Child of deaf adult) my signing style is a bit... off. If I don't speak, I tend to lose my thought process, ha. I think it has to do with me whispering 2myself and translating it in2 sign language. It really is a good question, but I don't have a direct answer, other than that's just how I grew into it. Even my father mouthing is not really spot on sign language as most deaf people just use their hands! Looking forward to ur questions
@DeafBirdsEyeNews Yes, my mother's side is all hearing, and my Grandmother lived next door. She always said we could talk thanks to het gift of gab. I've always felt TV helped as well ;)
@imjasonn Thanks so much Jason. I should of brought your beans to our mugs here! I appreciate your support and am so happy you enjoy the work we're producing. :D
these episodes with your dad makes me smile. i <3 them. I should do something similar to this - with me and my dad. :) Hilarity would definitely ensue. :)
@itsjustkitty Thank you so much Kitty. You make ME smile :D I think it's an unspoken rule that parents are just naturally funny to everyone but their kids.. or something. lol. Do you have any suggestions for what I should talk to my dad about?
good stuff guys I agree with your dad I would rather have a house I know that when I am in the dorms I find myself having to hold back whether its playing videos games, listening to music or yelling something to avoid getting in trouble, but when I am home I can do all of these things to my hearts content, plus I feel paranoid that someone is watching over me in an apartment or dorm situation rather than being the big guy yourself in a house
@MrSportsking5 But the responsibility of a house just seems not worth it. No time to ENJOY those video games when you're cutting grass and worrying about the furnace. I understand king of the castle, but I was in an AWESOME apartment for 3 years, and I did not have ANY complaints. Now in a house? There's worries everywhere. Time sinks left and right. That's life?
@Podsmiths It's the "live to work" or "work to live" argument. So many people work too many hours to make the coveted dollar and then have no time to enjoy the life they are paying for.
@LnHorgan68 I agree. I just think somewhere along the way, the "American dream" of white house and picketed fence got picked up and now, it can get a lot of people in trouble. Maybe I'm just trying to avoid financial responsibility, because I don't want to work like a dog for a meager existence. You're right... live to work? I don't think so. I work my fair share, just want to earn from it and keep my piece of mind! :D
