I believe Whoopi was right. Disney knows their audience and they were catering to it. I'm surprised that a woman as bright as Anika didn't see it. We as blacks always accept these little bones that Hollywood throws at us. What we need to do is create our own visionary images of who we are and what we aspire too.

The Beast in Beauty and the Beast spent virtually the entire movie as a beast before transforming into a (caucasian) human at the end, and I don't think that was a comment on caucasian people, so why would it be racist for Tiana to turn into a frog? Disney certainly wasn't trying to hide her lovely human princess form -it's on 99% of the merchandise and promotional materials.

And then that ape freak, Whoopi Goldberg, went on to disrespect her at the end of the video, calling Anika a "good girl" twice. Whoopi was implying that Anika did not say anything bad about the alleged racism of Disney. Anika didn't carry herself like a princess, but like a intelligent queen. Whoopi on the other, was very nigger like and rude, typical of her.
It is about time people took the time to recognize Ms. Rose's talent, especially after she got lost in the Beyonce/Jennifer Hudson bandwagon with "Dreamgirls".
Not taking anything away from them they are talented, but Anika was just as good.
And I still can't believe she's 37 years old, she seems so much younger than that.

Anika's response to every question was articulate and I admire her ability to quickly give a well-thought out answer. Her poise and control is inspirational especially when Barbara and the red head only wanted to talk about controversial trivial matters. You are beautiful Anika!
I think anyone who got a voice acting job in this movie should be VERY honored. Never before has the actress playing the voice of a princess been so honored...Anika is perfect for the role, any movie she's played in has always been this innocent youthful girl that has all the flavor of a black girl without the attitude!
I don't care if Prince Naveen isn't black. He clearly isn't white that means he brings more flavor to the movie. Besides I always thought he was Brazilian because Bruno Campos (the one who voiced Naveen) is. ^^;

I agree. If Beyonce', Tyra, Alicia, or Jennifer got the part, Tiana would look like one of them: Light skin. I'm glad Anika got the part and Disney designed Tiana to look like her, because, no offense, but we have enough light-skinned icons already and not enough dark-skinned ones.
