nothing hard, there are many people say my language is very hard, and it's not true, it's just because the people are lazies, I study Russian and I can understand some of Slovak words, I can already understand for many countries in east Russia
I live in UK and i'm from slovakia. I can't believe, that someone in UK learn slovak(my) language. I learn 2years british english and i really like it ;] Don't worry about the alphabet, is same like english only there is not "CH" and words like "ščřžýáíé" and more.. Good Luck
Can i just say that i am a native Slovakian speaker, but unfortunately i forgot about 50% of the language because at the age of 8 i came to England where English became my everyday language and as the years past by i used more English and less Slovakian. And now i am more fluent, though not perfect in English language then i am in the Slovakian language. So now i decided o s start to relearn the language from scratch and i TELL YOU, ITS HARD!
I've been learning Slovak for just over a month now (I'm from New Zealand) but it's quite a challenging language. Still, I must learn it or I won't be able to talk to the Slovaks. Myslim že, možno buduci rok budem hovoriť po Slovensky lepšie. :)
Moja slovenčina je ešte veľmi zlá,škod, ale som rád že sa to učím, takže môžem hovoriť trochu, keď som tam a nie byť ignorantný človek, ktorý len povie blabla bla Slovensko, milujem ťa.
i'm russian and i think i understand nearly 60-70% of slovak despite i never learned it. but the intersting thing is that i'm able to understand only 30% of czech, although czech and slovak are considered mutually intelligible languages.
Its very easy for me because i am from "Czech Republic" but i prefer Moravia and Moravian language (its not national language) and Czech language ist same but i have problems with Czech language in the school because i was born in Senica (Slovakia) and one woman , she visited us and she spoke Slovakia language so i know Slovakian early than our czech :D
Pre mňa to nieje žiadný problém lebo obidvaja jazyky su len prece skoro stejne , jen to že slováci neumí "Ř" :D bo my Moraváci sme to vygómali
Slovak language is very similiar to polish language. I was in Slovakia once and i was speakin polish and i had no problems. Beautiful country , nice people, and slovakian girls hmmm...:D
I´m 14-year-old girl and I´m from Slovakia.) I live there.Slovak language is so beautiful but too hard for people who learn this language:) I´m so happy that I speak slovak(for me it´s simple)
Slovak is hard, yes, but sadly this is repeated so often, that everyone believes it outright. It's really only the beginning that's hard. After about 3-4 months intensive learning it becomes much easier. Začiatok je ťažký... to čo nasleduje je úplne iná vec :)
Wtf? He forgot to mention slovenian language when talking about simmilar ones!? Slovakia: Slovensko (slovakia), slovenčina (slovak language), slovak girl (slovenka)..
Slovenia: Slovenija (when in adjective Slovensko), slovenščina (slovenian language), slovenian girl (slovenka)...
To name a few simmillarities... But there are many more, national symbol of both countries is linden tree, for example..
I'm American and I have a have a friend who was born in Romania, but moved to Slovakia when he was young. He speaks both languages fluently. However, he prefers Slovak. I've learned a few short phrases in Romanian. I think Slovak will be nearly impossible for me. =/ I think Romanian is easier.
@pinds83 that´s because Romanian belongs to Latin language familiy, and Slovakian got Slavic language family. I can assure you that for example German grammar is more complicated then Slovak grammar, so dont give up.
I'm from the UK and learning Slovak. It's mainly difficult because of the complicated grammar and soft phonemes (as opposed to my native English). However, it is rich with beautiful metaphors and wry humour, and learning it will also introduce you to bits and pieces from other Slavic languages. Moja slovenctina je este velmi zla, skoda, ale som rad ze sa to ucim takze mozem hovorit' trochu ked' som tam a nie byt ignorantny clovek, ktory len povie: "You speak English?" Slovensko, milujem ta :D
@razoodocks oh my god i dont know anyone who speak slovak language that good like you im from slovakia and i learn english laguage "Je dobre ze niekto sa uci tento jazyk."
@razoodocks hey man, im suprised how good and corectly u have written those few words in slovak language. u must be verry smart :-) slovaks appreciate that ,when u try to speak in their language:-) thumbs up
@razoodocks good good slovensko milujem ta! hahaha
i am a girl living in america w/ slovak parents. slovak was my first language and i am learning the language grammar-wise and it is really hard! :D but its really worth it :D
@razoodocks May I ask what resources you used to learn Slovak? I'm planning on moving over there permanently in around 12 months but is finding the language exceedingly difficult to learn. My wife-to-be is Slovak and she tries to help, but for all her other magnificent qualities, she's not a good teacher :p.
:-))) ROFL, they showing Hungarian land ,Hungarian houses, and they talking about their pathetic language which is a mixture of czech ,russin & polish.
Don't worry, dear friends. :-) Most people of Hungarian and Slovak nationality do not afflict with such a catchphrases. Clear your minds and be wholesome.
Don't worry, dear friends. :-) Most people of Hungarian and Slovak nationality do not afflict with such a catchphrases. Clear your minds and be wholesome.
@Slovakcitizen1 I just want to say that, as someone (an american) who has learned Slovak to a high level, it is not as hard as natives would have you believe. There have been too many discouraging comments here towards foreigners who are learning it. It IS possible to learn Slovak and learn it well, and it can be done in 2 years or less if you're up for it.
@Slovakcitizen1 Im half polish and half english so i understand some slovakian words because some of the words are quite simmilar to polish so i dont find it that hard but still confusing at times
@blondie4258 i am from slovakia, and i find polish confusing too, and funny, but my classmates at university from northern parts understand almost all of it
@vitacit Im sorry! i was going to clic Reply and mistakenyl clic spam!, I wanted to say that the diversity of culture in Slovakia and ech region it has, reminds me of the same situation Peru has, many languages, and the people are very different in each region.
@clerh8 I agree with u about understanding Polish :) I am Polish and live in England. My best mate here is Slovakian :) We can understand each other perfectly :D That's just amazing how people from other countries can understand each language :D
i'm from the northeastern part of slovakia, some 25 kms from the border and as a child i grew up with the polish fairy tales in the polish tv. moreover, we have a lot of poles coming here skiing or buy some cheap alcohol (hehe). on the other side, we use to to go to nowy targ or sacz for cheaper shopping. dialect from my region (saris and spis) is very close to polis. along with the czech language, i consider polish as my third native language.
slovakia is sort of like switzerland. due to the mountains separating the regions, each region has developed its own dialect, habits, folklore, habits, traditions. it's very unique for the small country like slovakia to be so diverse. interestingly, slovakia is western slavic nation but the official language is based on the central slovak dialects, which are closer to the southern slavic languages, while the dialects belong to the western slavic languages....

nice vid but it should be also mentioned that we slovaks have over 30 dialects
the written slovak is based on the central region
hower many slovaks have no problem understanding czech/polish and even slovenian/croat/serb
(theres even a croat minoriy in the west)
on the average czech is closest hower more then a minimum of 11000 words are different
