The media have been shills for psychiatry for 100 years. It's about time they got a little unbiased. It sounds like just because it is not hate-filled rhetoric that you think it supports the cause. No, it's called journalism; reporting what's happening.
I never had a good impression of Scientologists (listening to the media), but their acts are speaking louder than their critics these days! Keep up the good work guys!
What I gather is that the Scientologists do every kind of task that is needed in Haiti, even such not touched by others. They give out food and drink, carry supplies, help the medical staff (plus a number of them are trained medicos, like EMT, midwifes, etc.) They are apparently very experienced, many of them as having been at Katrina, Ground Zero and several other sites of catastrophies. Kudos to them.
You guys (Scientology Volunteer Ministers) are amazing. It's unbeleivable and unexplanable how some people can attack and target Scientology for things that are not even true.
Today the Scientology Volunteer Ministers Corps was recognized by the Georgia Senate for their Haiti disaster response actions! Georgia Senate Resolution 998, passed on February 8, 2010, states:
10 LC 94 2070
Senate Resolution 998
By: Senators James of the 35th, Tate of the 38th and Seay of the 34th
HOORAY FOR ALL THE SCIENTOLOGY VOLUNTEER MINISTERS AND JOBS WELL DONE!
People should be judged on what they DO, not what they believe. Freedom of Belief is a big part of being an American. Good for the Today Show for not being afraid that Scientologists are working side by side in Haiti, along with all other types of people who just desire to help their fellow man.
Great. COS is helping folks. So what if anyone in Haiti decides to convert? Are they going to offer the tech on a sliding scale? Shouldn't poor people who have faced disaster learn how to be clear without paying thousands upon thousands of dollars to do so. And if that is true, why shouldn't the populace of non-third world nations be afforded the same privilege. If this religion is so great why can't they exist on tithing-like every other popular religion?
Anyone can go to the library and check out many of the basic books, Free! You can go to the volunteer minister website and take the basic courses, online, Free!
The last I heard, some Catholic diocese were closing from lack of funding. Its a practical point but Scientology isn't like other religions in many ways; such as the fact that it is not a faith based religion but an applied philosophy based on results.
So proud of the Scientology VMs. Finally, press coverage that actually is covering what Scientology is really all about. Now if they can just realize that effectively and selflessly helping people is not "controversial".
I get so sick of hearing the media bashing their religion. The Scientologists I've met are really cool....and super helpful. Its like the media just wants to spread confusion or something. Good Job Today Show! I was once on a plane with a screaming baby and finally this nice lady had the baby look around the plane and she stopped crying. Someone asked her if she was a stewardess and she said, no, Im s Scientologist.
i'm not in the church of scientology and can say as an impartial observer that this united effort is really inspiring. Keep up the good work. And thanks.
With all the hateful gossip going around, it's nice to see someone do an honest look and listen. Good for Today Show. And good for the Volunteer Ministers!
Kudos to the Today's Show. After 20 years of volunteer service at some 126 worst-case disaster sites, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers finally pierce the age-old media blackout. It's great to see their good works made known for a change, and without the usual spin.
What are the requirements to bea volunteer minister sent to Haiti? How old? Background? Money? I am a Scientologist in Iowa and may be interested in going.
Thank all you guys so much for showing your support ans deeing the truth! I am a Volunteer Minister and very soon (maybe wednesday) I'll be on a plane to Haiti! Thanks NBC for this fair and honest reporting :)
wow. it amazes me to see what some people are capable of confronting. there are so many people who wouldn't dare enter Haiti lend a hand and they sit here and criticize the Scientologists and leave silly uninformed comments. I applaud Scientology for what they are doing.
How many religions have teams of people - 350 it says ready to drop what they do and go and help??? Anywhere in the world?? He says 9/11, catriona, they were also at Bandi Acher - Bali and so on. These guys deserve more than the crap the media throws at them.
There are over 200,000 trained Volunteer Ministers in the world and at any time of the day thousands are active in their community or in disaster areas. They are giving their time to organize, to help. Haitian Volunteer Ministers (VMs) in Port Au Prince were joined by around 100-150 VMs majorly from the US, Canada, UK, France, Russia and Germany. Some have to go back to their normal jobs, others are freeing up their lives to be able to come to Haiti. But a stable unit is there all the time.
People helping people. Religions respecting themselves and helping others in need. The human race trying to survive. Life at its best expression: helping others and creating a new civilization. Thanks Scientologists.
Impressive. Funding and transporting 350 people in less than a week after the disaster. Sometime I forget that the Scientology Volunteer Ministers are volunteers. They leave their jobs to help without payment, weeks and months. A true example that unconditional help still exists.
In a disaster, sometimes you must accept help from whomever is kind and caring enough to offer it...He was there...and you? Not able to spell, yet you're typing comments...ahahahahahahahah Let's not cast stones, shall we?

Interesting to see that they do this. It was very cute that the baby girl started to giggle when the lady minister was doing that assist (spelling)? on her.
No matter what anyone says about them, can't argue that they care about healing suffering, that's very good. Keep it up.
Real help. That's what they really need and the volunteer ministers are giving it as well as those doctors, military and others. The humanity is wonderful to see.
INCREDIBLE! Surrounded by so much chaos yet able to deliver so much happiness - THAT is what being a Volunteer Minister is all about!
Just so everyone knows, for $30 your local Church of Scientology will train you on Assists. They're great for everyday use, as well as in these scenarios.
@0darkhorse8 You can also download the training material and do a free extension course on the Volunteer Ministers website (click on "Train as a VM" at the bottom of our blog.
They are really there to help. I admire all of them for just being there and helping, without making a big fuss about it. They all put aside their every day life to be able to travel there and work, for nothing. Sometimes a helping hand and a real person who is there for you is much more than some material help. Though supplies and finances are also much needed aid, of course.
Seeing VM's work first hand is truly amazing. Makes you want to have their training and knowledge. And I know we all can. It's just a matter of reaching for it. Good Job guys!!!

Just leave it to world press and media to promote their cause.
