i saw this movie while flipping through Netflix.... I absolutely lovvvved it!!!!! its absolutely amazing ive already seen it 7 times... but thats because i only discovered it a week ago :D
Just watched both parts of this--very interesting. I never new this was actually filmed in 1980. It's funny to think this was originally meant to be a mainstream release, and then ended up being one of the most obscure cult classics ever. Like everyone else, I first saw this on Night Flight in the early 80's. I'm glad they finally released this on DVD a few years ago--now if we could just get Breaking Glass on DVD.
Wow, I had no idea. I caught this many, many years ago, I think it was on USA's "Up All Night," remember that show? Gilbert Gottfried hosted one of the nights, and Rhonda Shear would host the other night, Friday and Saturday, I think.
I remember loving the movie when I was young, but saw it again a couple years ago...not so good, but I don't care. I'll always remember loving it. And, of course, having Diane Lane in it didn't hurt. :-)
The concert scene filmed in the PNE Gardens - skipped out of school. Dressed up as new wave/punks. Always wondered how come the film was never released. We knew it was named "All Washed Up" at that time.
@mavris1 This aired on John Pierson's IFC show "Split Screen." The segment was directed by Sam Green and Sarah Jacobson. Sadly, Sarah passed away in 2004. :(
xoxodisgrace: where are you from? cause I bought my copy from a movie gallery that went out of business. it was totally on a whim and it's my favorite movie now.
I found this at my fucking local movie rental store. It kicked my ass, I love it. When the store went out of business I went back for it. AND IT WAS GONE. D:
I remember seeing this movie on Night Flight in the 80s.Very cool movie! I loved Diane Lane's makeup so much, the next day I tried it myself. I was bit of a rebel then after moving from a city in NY to a small town in North Carolina...I knew it would turn some heads. haha!
I saw this movie on cable late one night while babysitting in 1982. I was 12, and it totally blew my mind! I haven't been the same since! Thank YOU Nancy Dowd!
I am one who saw this film in probably its first run on late-night cable (The Movie Channel, I think) 'round about 1981-82 & taped a copy I kept for years until the tape broke. As a young teenage girl, already a music junkie & (later) band chick, I was profoundly affected by it. Thanks to all who had a hand in this film, it was really important to a lot of us.
So pleased about the revival of interest and release, will be looking forward to getting a new & good copy finally.
But where's the freakin' soundtrack? Once again, the advertised soundtrack has been pulled.. just like it was never released back in 1981 (it said in the credits of the film it was available) and now the new DVD release trailer promises it on Rhino, but we've been conned again... anybody know???
@tonyvaguely Hey, 2 years late responding on this but I just found this video on YouTube! The soundtrack album was pulled at the last minute. It did sell as an MP3 download on Amazon for about 48 hours though! So copies do exist. If you get in touch with me I'll be happy to send it to you!
I saw it on VH1's Movies that Rock in '99 or '00. I definitely had that reaction like, 'What in the world is this? How have I never heard of this movie before?' Shortly after discovering it I remember seeing a big article about it in Grand Royal (The Beastie Boys') magazine.
I remember seeing this movie,in mid-eighties on USA Up all night. Love it then, love it more now. It's about, they finally release it. Set me with a copy.....Very worth seeing again & again.
I saw this at the Valhalla Cinema in Richmond, Australia.
A cover version of "Conned again" was released by "Sloppy Seconds" in 1993.
This film didnt seem any more bizarre to me at the time, when compared to other new wave movies such as "Times Square" and "Breaking Glass"..
What made this movie cool was it had Steve Jones and Paul Cook. Also, Diane Lane's presence keeps the film going; so gorgeous yet so disturbed. What a cool kid she must have been!
Maybe you remember a film I can barely remember from that period. A New Wave-y movie from Australia. Have some recollection of a girl pretending to swim on an ironing board. It's been driving me crazy for a long time!
I have seen this film only once, on cable tv. It was on ENCORE when it first came out. It shook me to my core. When I tell people it is one of my favorite films, they say, "Never heard of it."
While this movie might have been a pep rally for the zit bracket of the early 80`s, theese people are over glorifying it and it is still not on the buy shelves. Not even in the $6 bins.
This was so genius~ I remember watching this over and over again when cable was a "new" thing. Does anybody remember Select TV or ON channel and even Z channel!?!?! I was inspired to do my hair like Daine Lane's!!! It has shaped me to appreciate REAL music. I know it sounds crazy but it was up there with Phantom of the Paradise and Rock and Roll High school. Classic films that should be seen again!!!!
Always loved this film. Watched it twice on late night tv back in my salad days, man! Can't wait for the DVD. Somebody post the sucker, willya? Thanks for postint this. Cheers!

This is a great film that deserves to be seen by more people. Unlike a lot of rock films, the music is genuine. Thanks for posting this documentary.

I can't wait to purchase a clean copy of it!
YAYYYYY!!
Back in 85 they showed it 1 time with the cussin and the shower scene, afterwards they had the edited version
and yes Greg78 I was 17 at the time and quite alive
how egocentric you are to think everyone on YouTube is in your age bracket.
