exactly, that is one of the reasons why it was so good, every player you expected to excell, did. Even players like zamarano and salas excelled for chile. And the knockout stages were very good, remember brazil 3-2 denmark quarter final. You wouldnt get a team like denmark attacking against brazil nowadays, they would probably just sit back and get a 0-0 and penalties.
@alterbridgegod without doubt this is the best world cup ive seen (from 1990 onwards). Incredible games, and every team had major stars at their peak who excelled...
France (Zidane, Djorkaeff), Brazil (Ronaldo, Rivaldo), Argentina (Batistuta, Zanetti), Holland (Kluivert, Bergkamp), Italy (Vieiri, Baggio), England (Owen, Shearer), Croatia (Suker, Boksic), Spain (Raul, Hierro), Denmark (Brian & Michael.Laudrup, Schmeichel), Germany (Klinsmann, Bierhoff)
im surprised how france got to the semi finals of euro 96. their team was just awful right after ginola got them kicked out of the world cup. i hear france are hosting euro 2016! about time a decent team hosts it
next to the bbc intro for 2002, this is the best of the lot, i was on my study week in the isle of wight when enlgand played argentina and mmy headteacher muted the tv everytime it went to a break, loved the vauxhall ads so i never forgave him for it!!
it's hard for me to say this as an Englishman, but in 1998 France put on the best World Cup tournament ever staged and possibly ever will. Impressive yet traditional stadiums, great atmosphere, fantastic football.
dont remember this at all, only remember the bbc intro. utterly forgetable this one. but at least the artists were cool, mondrian and shearer, manet and the birdman and magritte. all very good and it was subtle unlike the other national stereotypes they managed to cram in there.
@kenfig they went the way of England's dreams of world domination...and Labour's false dawns..but guess what there's a few bucks yet to be made on accumulator bets, my mate bet on all the second round results with success.. lolol btw, ITV's world cup music always had a dance beat, while the beeb tended to go for classical music.

One of the most memorable themes for me too, I can remember going into my local to watch the matches. Rarely go in a pub these days!
