I like the original Mozart better. Don't freak out, it's just an opinion. I also think that the Liszt piano transcriptions of Mozart have a lot more depth than this, albeit just as flashy.
TysonMS..Thank you for posting this. Fabulous!! The previous comment by MrASC001 is posted by someone who is ignorant of the art of piano paraphrase exemplified by great composers like Liszt and Rachmaninoff.
Volodos is playing 'properly', with the necessary amount of bravura and virtuosity, so I don't understand what your problem is or why your post was so threatening to the person posting this video. Try making a valid musical criticism instead of a baseless and illogical argument.
This is an example of technical profundity that makes up for the lack of harmony for the purist. I don't know whether I like it, but I sure can't stop listening to it!
It's such a pretentious, over-the-top transcription. But he plays it well enough that I don't really care. Kind of like Konstantin Scherbakov's rendition of the Strauss/Cziffra "Tritsch-Tratsch Polka."
@BenMcCormack91 Nearly, try Criffa for over the top virtuosity, esp. in the 'tritsch-tratsch'. Remembering that Criffa had fight in WW2; 2) been captured in WW2 and then had his hands tortured' and yet, in spite of all that, remained the ultimate pianistic showman of the 20th century. Had it not been for this and excessive amounts of drink in Paris, who knows what he might have done. What does pretentious mean in light of this?
wow. certainly not as pleasant to the ear as the original melodically speaking, but as far as pianism volodos is showing something amazing. there are many ways to appreciate music and one of the ways can certainly be technical difficulty.
This is really interesting, I can't make up my mind about it. Technically speaking its incredible, but as a piece of music it somehow feels unnecessary. I love that left hand business at 2.20 though.
i cant play the piano and i take back part of what i said, the original is good this is good to but the original is well original and you cannot take away the originality of somthing.
this one is good in fact its amazing but its just... well i cant exactly say what it is but that one thing its just not the original but at the last 40 seconds its amazing if it could have been like that the song through it might have surpassed any classic piano song.
i play other instruments, me and my friends we play a classic like this and we play the original it is better to follow as a group!
and hell if i dont play the piano maby i just listin to classic piano music (i dont) or maby im just an artist like anyone else who plays an instrument and has there own opinion on different pieces.
hmm.. i think sometimes it may be more of a challenge to come up with a diferent rendition of the original.. becos creativity and other aspects are involved.. listen to the underlying voices/ melodic lines... there're several strands going at the same time.. i think this is quite fantastic an arrangement
@0kidavenger0 You cannot play the piano but see fit to make a pointless comment about a superb piece of virtuoso piano playing by possibly the greatest pianist on the planet. Is there any worthwhile reason as to why you are posting? By all means critique Mozart or arrangements of Mozart. Why criticise Volodos for demonstrating the possibilities of the modern steinway?
@SJM1977 Hold on... if this comment is pointless then find me a comment that has a point... Its a fucking comment. I like the original better, i never said anything about this one being bad. All I did was state my opinion, and that what a comment is you fuck. It was not even criticism! It was a preference! I like them both but i prefer Mozart version. And how do you know if i can play the piano or not? Do all pianists prefer this one?
@0kidavenger0 The original Mozart "Alla Turca" of the Sonata #11 is much better than the Volodos arrangement, period. The only composer who did justice to Mozart in transcriptions was Liszt. This overly splashy, over-the-top, ego driven kind of composition and execution leaves me cold.

EPIC VIRTUOSO!!!!!
AmericanCars101 1 year ago 3
1:12 at that part, what fingering would you recommend??
the easiest fingers to alternate are 1-5 and then 2-4 .. but you guys tell what you recommend
mayorde18 1 year ago
@mayorde18 3-5 2-4 3-1 1-2 1-2 ..etc.
Latsia 1 year ago
@mayorde18
1-5, 2-4, 1-3... is probably the best, but really with enough practice you could get fast enough with other fingerings as well.

ask Liszt to play the La Campanella on a violin... bcuz that's the proper way to play it...

@MrAsc0001 We are in the 21th century, "play properly" is not longer a valid argument to describe a musical interpretation or composition
