  • "Shall we go?" HECK YES!!

  • You have to feel sorry for poor Erik.

  • He can't be THAT ugly to faint ....

  • I was hoping so desperately she wouldn't freak out when he took his mask off.. Ugh.. What's wrong with people..

  • aww why dosnt he singgggg

  • "If i sing for you, will you do me a favour?"

    "No."

  • dear lord, all this stuffed animals are soooo creepy! he must be on drugs

  • i laughed most of this part... ^^;

  • Oh Erik! I'll love you no matter what you look like I'LL LOVE YOU !!!!!!!

  • Did he just punch a deer??

  • OMG poor erik :((

  • ERIC: "You're magic, too."

CHRISTINE: "Oh- no- I don't think so."

    ERIC: "OH. YES- YOU. ARE."

So, I laughed just a little bit. :)

  • bitch

  • at 4:14 ohmigod! now i know what happened to Bambi's mom! the Phantom stuffed her!

  • Meet The Phantom! Starring Teri Polo!

  • The intimacy of the scene, starting at 7:36, is utterly overwhelming. It's such a personal, fragile act Erik is committing - you really can't blame us for hating her.

  • Mm... I don't really understand why the forest is so eerie. What would you do, were you forced to be buried under human civilization?

  • Charles' forest is certainly creepier than Gerard's life-size Christine model. Also, this scene was utterly heart breaking.

  • Oh it breaks my heart! The ending when he is shouting 'why' made me sob!!!

  • it is a bit weird that Erik has a huge forest in his lair, but remember in the novel the torture chamber was a vast forest with trees and such,.... except it was extremely hot, and deadly.

  • you BITCH you kept pushing him to do something you he wasn't comfortable doing and when he gave you what you wanted you do THAT?

  • I think this phantom is ten times creepier than the ALW phantom. At first I didn't like how smooth and normal sounding he was at the beginning, but now I really like it. It adds to the creepy.

  • @alphasia91 that's so true!

  • i always wonder how bad his face really is. for some reason i keep guessing that he has like no nose. weird. anyone agree....?

  • @Arreisenta yup! i remember watching this first time and this scene stuck...

  • Dude, I wouldent have ran away. :'(

  • If you want to view Paradise..... in a world of Pure Imagination....

He is really looking like a creepy Willy Wonka in this Scene... @-@

  • you guys with the stupid commits again?! you're ruining it! it's so wonderfuly lovely it shuld not be poked fun at! how owuld you liek it if you spent your days alone in that place with only a bunch of rats and the occational visit from som old guy because of a deformity? you'd go a bit crazy too!

  • @ -0:47 no false hope, Christine! Geez!

  • I wonder if one could train a phantom like one trains a dog:

"No, bad Phantom! Drop the gunpowder. Drop it!"

    LOL

  • Oh Christine, you lovely, adorable, little blonde WITCH.

  • At 4:47, the blunt little "no." is too funny. I just about lost it.

  • Oh guys... you are hardly being fair to Christine...She loves his heart, that much is evident. But of course she wasn't expecting Erik to be so hideous. She began to parallel herself to Erik's mother considering their resemblance and personality. But of course she was not expecting Erik to be so monstrous, even if she was warned. Im sure she woke up and felt horrid for fainting and not being strong enough for him. Even so, his "WHY!" breaks my heart... Poor Erik

  • Erik: How about a picnic?

    That's my phantom. <3

  • Christine is an idiot

  • God he reminds me so much so of Willy Wonka in this scene, too cute for words ^^

  • @MissPhantomMania That's what I've been thinking all along! Nobody else had mentioned a Gene Wilder resemblance, so I thought it was all in my head...xD

  • @FelineFearless Oh my god I hadn't realized it but yeah! I watched this whole scene thinking "Why do I feel like he's going to break into song or pull out a tin whistle and summon Oompa Loompas..?"

  • I think the unmasking scene is brilliant. Unlike in other versions, you don't know what he looks like, so you can't say, "Oh, it isn't THAT bad." since we don't now what he looks like, we can't say her reaction was unnecessary. Although of course I do feel bad for Erik.

  • I don't know why, but I giggled when he punched the deer. Deer is probably like ":D...*punch* WTF man! D:<"

  • I don't know why but I love the sound of Erik's voice it's so pleasant until Christine had to make him angry.......but it still warms my heart when I hear it

  • fainting > screaming

  • At the beginning, I had a hard time taking this scene seriously. I had never pictured the Phantom ever going on a picnic. For the first time Erik sounded truly deluded, which had me stuck between nervous laughter and feeling bad for him. The dreamery was a VERY creative touch for the writers, seeing as it doesn't exist in the original book, but it seems plausible. And then the end...I know I'm probably being unfair, but my first thought was "Christine, you WITCH. You just broke his heart!!"

  • At 1:35, the mask on the far right is what the book phantom would look like

  • im an english girl, his voice... he's american which part? christine is petrified not quite knowing how to handle his deluded attitude but she loves him dearly deep down.. *hearts*

  • its just half of his face...can't be that bad common u don't have 2 faint! ---cruel woman grrr...

  • @pmcr9 in this version it's his whole face except for around his mouth as you can clearly see with the mask. Nevertheless I agree with you. Christine was cruel for talking so sweetlyto him and then fainting at the sight of his face. That's one of the things I hate about the character Christine is that she doesn't take no for an answer even if it could be forher own good. She still could've loved him with the mask. I always think she shouldve prepared herself more for what was underneath.

  • Wtf, what a hoe ): I'm sure whatever he looked like under there wasn't worth fainting over. Erik seems so lovable.

  • @Leygoes Thought the same thing! I was like "What the hell? She asked him to!"

  • every time Erik speaks, i cant help but smile :3 damnit it christine!!! no means NO!!! D:<

  • dear christine, please allovv me to help you. firstly you close your eyes and gently touch his face, to see merely vvhat is going on...

then if you feel familiar to it, you put your lips on his face and feel his deformity closer . vvehn you have a general idea, you sLOVVLY open eyes and look... that is the vvay to avoid fainting!!!! and also you are both so close that the last thing you can think is his deformity... that's all from me, hope you take that into consideration...

  • This is my first time watching this version of PotO... It's my favorite but this scene irked me because of Christine. This version of Erik is so kind and he actually speaks to Christine. She had not fully prepared herself for what was under his mask and hurt him... I'm very upset about this part... (Although, I know it had to happen...) If he were to treat me the way he treats Christine, I wouldn't care if he had no skin at all, if it were skull, if it were shriveled and charred.

  • Do we EVER see his face?

  • This is the first time I'm seeing this version of POTO; and I have to say Erik's Why at the end and his loud sobbing made me want to cry. Not like the other versions I've seen. I really felt for him at that moment.

  • This is the most emotional unmasking scene I've seen yet. Because instead of Christine ripping off his mask in curiosity and Erik getting angry, Christine begs Erik to willingly let her see his face so she can give him the love he really needs from someone, and he opens himself up to her leaving him completely vulnerable and she ends up breaking his heart unintentionally. So much more emotion.

As Christine was begging and Erik removing his mask I was crying and begging Christine not to hurt him

  • @JKS177 totally agree but ramin karimloo as sexiest phantom

  • SHE JUST FAINTED! SHE'S NOT DEAD!!!!!!!!!!! That part is always so hard to watch.

  • hey, he smacked bambi!

  • hehe love the bit at the end when he goes "WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY UH HU HAAAAA " XD

  • i love how the director wanted the audience to imagine what eriks face looks like

    :D

  • This is definitely the best unmasking version, in my opinion. It's so emotionally tormenting and psychological for both of them instead of Christine simply ripping it away and screaming in terror. It really shows Erik's wanting to trust her, to believe that she can accept him. Aww.

  • Dammit Christine! Who the %^$# cares what his face looks like! Look at his eyes, that warm, inviting mouth-- those lips! JUST KISS HIM ALREADY!!!!

  • @OvaltineEucerin Of course! He definately deserves a kiss - especially after listening about his life as a child and how he lives now.He needs a little happiness - Why cant all Christines see that and understand him ever?!!!!

  • WE WILL LOVE YOU ERIK JUST GIVE US THE CHANCE, AND YOU'LL HAVE SO MUCH LOVE THAT YOU'LL PROBABLY SUFFOCATE IN IT. <333

  • "shh... listen to the morning birds... and a ferret too i think... magic is my friend..."

    PHANTOM ON CRACK!!!!! XD

  • @DareDevilchick666: He said pheasant, silly!

  • I wish i knew a man like erik! that is at the beggining of this not the end!

  • I wish i knew a man like erik!

  • Erik is so god damn handsome with that mask on! His eyes are so sexy...<3

  • The forest... Poto in 15 minutes had it right.

Erik: Welcome to my lair of crazy! :D

    Christine: Oooo! :)

  • I aspire to grow up and make a PotO movie in which the Phantom gets Christine.

  • @EmmyTheGreystoneGirl I'd watch it!

  • @EmmyTheGreystoneGirl I heartly support you on that! =) And I hope you succeed!

  • gosh this is the best phantom movie so far but I hate how the all end bad proving how superficial humanity is. I mean aren't movies supposed to set an example! like even the nicest en purest person of all like Christine is superficial...arrrg...

  • gosh this is the best phantom movie so far but I hate how the all end bad proving how superficial humanity is. I mean aren't movies supposed to set an example!

  • ... If only.... for ONE damn movie... Christine wouldn't be a bitch, and she'd choose the Phantom over Raoul. T_T

  • I just want to cry! Oh Erik is soo sweet to her and kind and gently and.. AAW!! I wish Erik is my boyfriend !!

  • all i'm doing watching this clip is staring at eriks lips...surely he's not supposed to be so gorgeous?!

  • Thumbs up if you think Christine is a fucking idiot for making him take his mask off all "ohhh I'll love you" then FAINTS from horror >.<

  • XD he nuts! but thats why i love him ^-^

    that and he's canon

  • Christine's being so childish! She's so young she should listen to her elders and leave Erik right then and there. After Begging him to show her his face,Geez how could she faint?! That is soooo rude and such a heart breaking moment!! I really don't like Christine, she doesn't deserve the phantom! :(

  • He really reminds me of a masked Willy Wonka in this scene, haha

  • LMFAO

I'm sorry, this one picnic scene cracks me up

before, he's all dark, mysterious, and sexy... and then he goes all "I hear the morning birds... and a ferret"

    XD

  • and...how charles says the lines!!! it is almost exactly how I imagined how Erik would speak when I read the book! ( the 6 times I did :D )

  • Charles' Erik *swoon*

  • @shambles07 like with: Ramin Karimloo, John Cudia, Michael Crawford, Charles Dance, and Gerard Butler ;) (Ramins the best one to me though...)

  • @TheCamoTurtle I adore Ramin's Phantom, having seen him many times in the West End now I would say he's one of my very favourite stage Phantoms, alongside Earl Carpenter. Charles' Erik is just so huggable though, you can't help but love him, not to mention his speaking voice is utterly captivating.

  • @shambles07 we ALL adore Ramin and Charles Dance is so huggable i agree ;)

If you listen carefully in one of the parts he has a annoying American accent...(not that all are annoying..)

  • THAT HAT

    OMG THAT HAT

Makes him so adorable I want to hug him ahh <3

  • it was all so perfect until she fainted :( :( *cries in corner*

  • @smellydee I know right! What a freakin woosie!

  • Charles Dance could talk me into and out of anything. Christine is being a fool. I doubt he's grotesque in the least. It's Charlie, for crying out loud! <3

  • @jeanbob93

Christine manipulates everybody. She says "If you love me, you will..." about 5 times in this movie.

  • Hey, i want to see his face! It cant be that bad! Shes just overreacting.

  • "you are magic, you know..........magic cannot run from me." ( sort of) Creepy!!!

  • Curiosity, Dear Christine, killed the fake deer erik knocked over!

  • "hat you think?"

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOI!

  • @PoodleStickProd Yeeeeees so CUTE d'awww Erik wants to be loved. Then Christine goes and PASSES OUT. Dangit she's the one that's horrible!

  • i want to see his face too!!

  • "I like that room, good cozy bed, pleasant water view" lol Poor Erik, I'm almost embarrassed for him. :(

  • i <3 this :)

  • Hey I cross my arms like that.

  • The unmasking scene is totally heartwrenching to watch. Poor Erik!

  • I like the twitching faint she does...kind of realistic......and I don't blame her since I used to read a lot of medical journals i know how bad someone's face can be and how even people with mino disfigurements have trouble getting their siginificant other to cope with it..

  • ERIK ANGRY! ERIK SMASH -knocks over deer- Hey now, it's not the deers fault you got rejected, don't take it out on already dead nature. xD

  • gawd...christine is such a doofus

Were I in her place, my favor would've been a kiss. xD

  • @XevanescenceXangelX I think Ramin looks best as himself, not as phantom..

but with gerard it`s the other way roundxD

  • This Erik reminds me of "V" from the movie "V for Vendetta"

  • I HATE CHRISTINE!!!!!!!!!!

  • Stupid stupid stupid Christine!!Why have you act like "trust me" and fainted right after!!!!Poor Eric, I cried when he began to cry :(

  • @MPLP I wish I was there to comfort him :P

  • Charles Dance = Most Cuddly Phantom

    Gerard Butler = Sexiest Phantom

Michael Crawford = Best Phantom Overall

John Cudia = Most Emotional Phantom

    :3

  • @JKS177 oh man i couldn't agree with you more!

  • I love how they directly take lines from the original Yeston/Kopit production, such as 7:12. It makes it special somehow. :)

  • I think that this is really a sweet part... too bad Christine ruins it...

  • @Articwerewolf I totally agree with you.

  • He's so irresistable! The way he says picnic is just so cute to me ^_^ Ah, Charles Dance...If only you were much younger, you would be my Erik of choice ^_^ Actually, he probably still is xD

  • "I've got an idea. How about a picnic?!" I think he's trying way to hard to live a somewhat normal life.

  • @phantomchick17 I concur adamantly with you on that valid point, I believe he endeavored quite diligently to live a life as normal as possible.

  • "I will grant you a favor regardless of what you do.."

    I just went 'aww' there.

And, Christine? When you love someone, you DO NOT FAINT at the sight of their face, no matter how horrible it is.

    Ohh..poor Erik... *cries*

  • @lolkittehs34 I agre with you, and hes so romantic.

I think its so sad that hes ""mad"". He has to ''make up'' a world for himself because he feels he has no part in the real world just because of how he looks, and thats the sad bit.

I just wish for once there was a happy ending....

  • @MrsJosephMerrick i agre! hi again, lol,

lolkittehs34 i agree i soo went aww! i just wante to throw my arms around him and knck christine in the head

  • Hello to you as well! But forget the hugs- well you can hug him if you like... Lets just get serious and give our poor Erik those kisses he so desparately deserves...In my state of mind this evening I would be quite happy to please him in anyway possible. Hes a bit crazy, but romantic and sincere. I'll settle for that. He would love me forever, thats whats important. ...;)

  • @MrsJosephMerrick Yes, exactly! *hugs Erik*

  • Magic...is my friend?

  • that was terrible! she shouldn't have forced him to show her.

  • Poor erik, but her reaction wasn't so bad. And she did want to show hi she loved him, just wasn't tryuly ready or prepared.

  • Really, she should listen to him when he says "you don't know what you're asking" ;p

  • Erik isn't crazy at ALL. No siree. Having a forest in one's house isn't odd or psychotic at all...

Silly Christine. She always wants to see his face. Just can't take no for an answer.

(Of course, Erik is like that too. "Say yes and it's all good. We'll live happily ever after... or I will atleast. And Raoul will live. Say no, and half of Paris dies. That includes you. And Raoul. And me, come to think of it. Well then, make your choice!"

  • Making a pretend forest in your underground prison when you never get to go outside in your entire life? Decidedly less psychotic.

  • Don't I know it. ;)

I love the guy. His insanity makes him more endearing. Especially when it's Charles Dance behind the mask. *squee!*

  • pobre erik, me da pena la chica lo qeria..

  • this is when you know he's gone crazy/mad. Poor Erik...

  • He's so cute! "How about a picnic?" OMG! Of course, Leroux would NEVER do a picnic (Unless Christine begged him to) but it's cute!

  • @dementedsinger316 Well, you know, a wife to take out on Sundays and keep entertained on weekdays... Fits if it were Sunday.

  • Gah...this version...you don't really get the sense of how psychopathic our beloved Opera Ghost is until you see the fake forest. Even still his craziness has been toned down. No where near Leroux's version (though props for the barrel-explosion plot, that's certainly not in the ALW version but that's not surprising). On the other hand, this Erik is so sweet and so...adorable, it's hard not to love him. I want to hug him. :P Darn you, Christine! You know you're going back to the surface!

  • @cchin100 He is psychopathic, but in a different sense I think. Not sexually or violently, but... lonely. I do think that he could have been a lot more creepy in this scene but... having his father with him, watching over him, at least a little throughout his life, I don't think he would be as psychotic, don't you think? He's had guidance. He gets selfish, but, not to the extreme point of , "You're mine or death for you both!!!" insane. I love this version.

  • I couldn't help but laugh at this comment. nice. XD!!

  • Thanks. It seems I've pissed off some people though...

  • I'm sorry, is this Phantom of the Opera or Christine and the Chocolate Factory?!

Part of me is confused, part of me is a little peeved, but most of me is laughing and enjoying it anyway! It's cute!

Then we have the unmasking... 360 turnaround.

    Oh... Poor Erik :(

  • haha~I don't know why, but he looks funny with that hatXD

  • I feel both of them somehow in this unmaskingscene. She really does believe that she can give him what he secretly desires but then fails, and he believes her too for a moment. They both end up heartbroken.

    Love this movie^^

  • I love his outfit, his suit. I don't know why but it looks so dashing! Yes, he must have a hat. The forest is creepy but he did it for her out of love so you can't help but think he is sweet for trying to be as romantic as he can and knows how to be.

It's so cute how he gets so excited when he asks her to sing and she says yes.

Ohhh poor Erik, he's crying oh now I'm crying. Poor Erik, don't you just want to give him a hug and tell him everything gonna be alright. 'Sobbing' He just yelled why!

  • Ohh, lovely flute playing! "Well! what shall we do today? I know, how about a picnic!" Love that. So unexpected! I was like 'what? did he just say picnic?' Love his hat looks. And the way he says "Walla!' I like the forest, too. "You are magic too, I think. Magic is my friend. Magic cannot hide from me." Wish he said that to me. Lovely lil' romantic picnic. I'm jealous! Christine, don't ask him to show his face! Don't ask...aww...you ruined it, Christine! U don't know what ur asking
  • bloody Christine! It's obvious Erik did not want to show his face! Why couldn't she just leave him alone?!

Erik shouldn't have been soft with her.

He should have shouted and said "For god's sake NO!!! That is one thing I am NEVER going to do! Now leave me alone!!" or maybe even slap her just to shut her up!

  • I love this version. Charles Dance is my favourite Erik :)

He's so charming.I love Claude Rains and Michael Crawford and I also like Gerry Butler who wasn't as good as the others but did a good job, but Charles makes Erik look so lustrous. How can you refuse him??

  • This Phantom reminds me a lot of Cary Grant in Charade.

  • He is like: lalala here is my forest, and here are the dears, im not mad at all, lalala^^

  • I know. lol

This version seems disneyfied with that kind of sugary sweetness "this is my forest with all the deer and the birds", although it is very dark and tragic but Erik is so loveable :)

  • The songs are also very beautiful in this :)

  • Can't forget Lon Chaney. The first original Phantom :)

  • I love all the other versions of Phantom of the Opera - Claude Rains(fantastic!) Gerry Butler(fantastic) Michael Crawford(fantastic) This is my second favourite after the ALW Disneyfied stage musical.

Erik is adorable here and it shows that he really cares for Christine and loves her for who she is.

  • Comment removed

  • I love this version to bits! Erik is so sweet in this one. :)

He's so calm when he tells Christine he cannot take off his mask and I don't think he has yelled at her in this one.

  • Erik is so AWESOME with that amazing hat!!!!!

(He also reminds me a little of the Mad Hatter)

But you complete and utter cow Christine!

It can't be that horrible surely?!

(whallops Christine with Erik's walking cane for being so stupid)

'Will you grant me a favour?'

    'No'

    Hilariously deadpan!

  • And only real men cry like that.

  • He reminds me of Bert in Mary Poppins with that hat on actually in the Jolly Holiday sequence! XD

How dare Christine faints when she sees his face!

Honestly it can't be THAT bad!

Poor Erik! Have you read the prequel Phantom?

It's more from Erik's point of view.

    Bit like Wicked!

  • No I haven't, but I'll definitely look into it!

  • omg you should definitely - i'm readin it the now its amazing

  • lol, I've never seen this , so I was laughing really hard when he's like "wanna go for a PICNIC?" haha, most other versions are dark and gloomier, he's just like all excited about his hat and stuff, haha, i love this version!!

  • i was cussing my brains out in my head when she fainted. I was like, "are you KIDDING!!!" he so did not want to take it off, but she made him, and now, she can't even take it? Come ON!!! I am like crying, he was sooo sad!!!

  • Poor Erik :(

  • Man, that's a rough deal.

  • Till now, i wwanna cry :((

  • she sounds so lame at least she should be a lil more talkative with him I would

  • Poor unhappy Erik :( I can't bear to watch this scene.

    -Christine
