I life in Newfoundland, home of the world's best tasting North Atlantic cold water lobster, and I have never never ever seen anyone cook the rubber bands on the claws. The rubber imparts more "Flavour" to the water than any of the spiced added. Noone cooks the rubber bands...unless of course he or she likes the taste of rubber bands .
Another hint.....try eating the lobsters cold and avoid the "melted butter " fad. It ruins the taste of the lobster.
Do you like the taste of rubber bands ?

@hohnercorso thanks for tht pointless info. who says newfoundland lobsters taste the best? you? presumably you from newfoundland.
plus taking off or leaving the bands on makes no difference at all to cooking a crustacean for 4 minutes
