  • Hey man , please I need ur help :S Happens that Ive installed all the drivers and connected scarlett to my computer. I also use a midi controller connected to my computer. Now (in ableton) ive set scarlett as input and output, now everytime I play with the midi controller there is so much latency , it takes to long to play the sound on my headphones

  • Thanks brother

please help me . I have Rode K2 tube mic 700$ and Presonus Eureka 500$

I need the best audio interface. Only one channel I need for vocals . No midi or instruments . I also don't need its preamp because my mic will be connected to Eureka . So I need it only for converting from analog to digital and playback .But I need the best and clearest vocal . pleeeeeeeeeeez help me

  • @abonada88 hey there are many options you can go with. It seems like you just need a USB or Firewire interface that has XLR / 1/4 TRS inputs. Most interfaces come with preamps on them but you just need a unit that allows you to switch to line input so you can bypass the preamp. Depending on where your buying your gear just tell your sales associate your needs and he/she should take care of you. I also use Rode & Eureka, great combo!

  • Was helpful.Thank you!! I am not good at English. sorry

  • @kuronekovipper Thank you, your English is fine my friend.

  • the mix quality of vocal is proper but the vocal is totally off the track :(

  • @Gadomm yes the mix quality is superb also the drift that you're hearing was purposed. I meant to sing it that way for this demonstration. On my Adore Remix album the original version is done without drift or sway. watch?v=6ZQu8OCyqLA

  • @Papasean7 yeahh there it sounds much better.. I like it :) No doubt I would buy your album :D.. cheers Gadom.. Please check my sounds on my soundcloud profile link is attached on my track on youtube ;)..

  • @Gadomm no problem man, surething I'll check you right now. Thanks for checking me out. :)

  • No midi usb plug ?

  • @orioncon no midi usb or din 5 on the 2i2, only the 8i6 and 18i6 has midi din 5 ports.

  • @Papasean7 thanks for reply !!

  • nice my brother

  • @Niiboy15 thanks man.

  • nice but will yuh say this will work for a project studio?

  • @vibestouch1 depending on your setup, yes. There are 3 versions of the Scarlett (2i2, 8i6 & 18i6). The mic preamps are the same for all 3 units, they differ depending on options like midi i/o, spdif, 1/4 i/o and optical in. Depending on the level of your studio needs I would checkout all 3 to see which one is best. I mainly bought it for mobile use but as you see we used it in a home studio and the results were really good.

  • @Papasean7 hey just wondering do you have any problems with it playing through you monitors. I read where this one guy was having problems with his monitors not working right with it. he said it would stop playing through the monitors after about five minutes. just hoping he had a bad one because other then that i have heard very very great things about it. thanks in advance.

  • @xtragetit thanks for the comment. Yeah he probably had a defective unit. Being that Focusrite makes thousands of these units every now and then a defect may slip through. But I've never had a sound issue regarding monitors and the Scarlett, the outputs work well. The same goes for the Saffire too. We've had no issues with monitors going out. Hope this helps.

  • @Papasean7 Thank you sir. About to put my order in now for one and an Audio-Technica AT2035. I rap and do my own production, but I'm on a budget. (who isn't lol)

  • @xtragetit no problem. Yeah I know what you mean in regards to budget, as an independent artist I do everything on a tight budget (music & videos). As long as it sounds and looks good that's all that matters. I love the high-end gear too but until I can afford it, you gotta do what you gotta do. Anyways, good luck man! :)

  • Very nice production, though i think timing of the vocal is on some parts (just) a little bit off. I'm not sure if it is done on purpose. Apart from that great stuff!

  • @remcowas87 you're correct, just for fun yes I tried a slight lag every other measure for this demonstration. The actual album version was done without the lag of course. Thanks for the comment. :)

  • wow this song is simply awesome!

  • @shufflebert thanks a lot... :)

  • This video is a great start to understanding Scarlet, but I'd like to hear how versatile it is with vocals.

  • @DelilahClark Thanks as far as vocals it does a good job. As you see in this video my vocals were recorded with the Scarlett. It doesn't matter what type of genre you sing your mic and Scarlett will give you what you give it. The Scarlett comes with a DVD that has a plug-in suite to help taylor your vocals with eq, gates, reverbs, delay & compression. From R&B, Country, Christian, Rock or Latin it doesn't matter the Scarlett will capture any vocal type you record through it. :)

  • @Papasean7 : That's good news. Is it as good as a Manley tube mic preamp?

  • @DelilahClark Not at all. The Scarlett is very low end and doesn't compare with Manleys, Focusrite ISAs, UAs, Neve or Avalons, these are all pro-studio gear that will cost you $2100-$4,000 per unit while the Scarlett only cost $149. Look at it this way a Volkswagen Beetle and a Lamborghini LP 700-4 both will get you from point A to point B, but the Lamborghini is $300,000 times better.

  • @DelilahClark : Well, is there a middle-of-the-road option? Something better than the Scarlett and not as pricey as the Manley for vocals?

  • @DelilahClark yes there are many options that are in the middle range. Matter of fact the manufacturers I listed in my previous reply make units that are in the middle range. Try sweetwater, they are really good at helping people with the right option. By the way I'm not being bias, none of these companies pay me to promote their product I'm just sharing my real experiences. I hope this helps... :)

  • thanks a lot Sean for posting this. it was incredibly helpful. i just went ahead and purchased one of these units. looking forward to trying it out.

  • @danzigism awesome, yeah it's nice and very easy to use. Enjoy your 2i2 and all the best 2012. :)

  • It's nice to see someone actually using Propellerhead Record (or Reason 6) for recording. Props!

  • @mesaoneCCK Yes Reason 6 is very nice. I'm a long time Logic & Sonar user but when I upgraded to Reason 6 I use it more than anything now. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year.

  • nice, was going to buy an m-audio interface and the guy told me to go with this. its been a month and i really like interface. very simple and straight forward interface, can use it for anything

    .

  • @airborn101st Yes it's a pretty good unit and I love the simplicity of it also. Thanks for watching and please subscribe. Happy New Year! :)

  • Hey Sean, how would I go about hooking up a subwoofer along with my studio monitors?

    Thanks.

  • @LYAULegend Hmmm...the 2i2 only has two outs of course therefore unless the subwoofer is somehow connected to your monitors I don't really have a suggestion on how to ethically make it work.

  • hello today i bought the scarlet 2i2 i only got a little problem how could i reduce the hiss? cuz when i am recording you hear ssssssssss on the background.. and if you record do you have to put on the phantom ? thnx

  • @indoluku88 Hi indoluku88, are you recording vocals or guitar? What type of mic are you using dynamic or condenser? You should only use phantom power if you're recording with a condenser mic. Recording guitar line-in while phantom power is on can produce undesireable results. Phantom power voltage doesn't work well on balanced mics that don't use it's signal. So don't use phantom power if you're using a dynamic mic or line-in cable with guitar or instrument. Hope this helps.

  • hello .

i just bought that scarlett 2i2 yesterday and i tried recording my guitar with it all i got was a loud broken/cracking sounding guitar signal

I would really appreciate your help THANK YOU :D

  • Right after this review i went on amazon and got it for125.99. thanks for your the upload.

  • @bassstudent4life no problem, I'm glad it was helpful. Please share your experience and thanks for watching. :)

  • thanks for the quick response Papsean - so glad you mentioned

the 48kHz (saffire) v the 96kHz (scarlet) since I thought they were

both 96kHz; like you I record at 48kHz but it can't do any harm to

have the higher ceiling. if it sounds as good as you and

many others suggest I won't be replacing it for years because

it appears that the whole Focusrite range uses the same pre-amp

and convertor standards - if that's the case then this little gem

is a real nice option for me at around $150!!

  • @MrGreen333111 yeah your right 96kHz can't hurt. I also think the pre's are standard in the scarlett-saffire series and I'm sure the change is significant when it comes upgrading to the ISA or Liquid series. But yes I agree this little unit does a good job and I like it. At the end of the day my fans don't care what pre I use, they just love the music and at this price you can't beat it. Thanks again.

  • great vid thanks. thinking of purchasing this.

  • @CrimsonEmpire yeah it's a good little unit, thanks for watching...

  • thanks for the nice video Sean; you're voice reminds me of McAlmont from back in the day. I want to buy this since I'm a believer in less is more when it comes to audio; 2 in, 2 out will do all the time for me; however if the Saffire 6 USB (2 in 4 out) is in anyway superior sound wise (since you mention coloration) then at only about $30 more; why not. Thanks.

  • @MrGreen333111 thanks man! Same here 2 in 2 out is all I need for my setup. Other than the 1 midi i/o, pad and extra 2 outs, that's all the Saffire has on the Scarlett. By the way the Scarlett is USB 2 and does 96kHz while the Saffire is USB 1.1 and goes to 48kHz, but then again how many people record at 96kHz. But yeah in my opinion you can't go wrong with either unit.

  • @lantyboy696 thanks. The Roland seems to be a nice unit it has several more I/O's than the 2i2. I would suggest moving up to the Scarlett 8i6 in comparison with the Roland. With the 8i6 you get more I/O features than the Roland. Plus the 8i6 not only has more features but cost a little less. I assume the Scarlett pre's are better but I haven't tested the Roland so I can't make that claim. But the 8i6 has the same features and more than the Roland. As far as guitar either should work nicely.

  • @Papasean7 Thanks for getting back to me, i was looking at the 8i6 but im not really gonna use that amount of ins and outs so dont see the point, i do plan on getting a native instruments machine (i love drum and bass/dubstep so on) aswell but even then i'll only be doing one kinda music at a time, ugh my head hurts man lol

  • @lantyboy696 yeah I understand, same here I didn't need a lot I/O also. I only mentioned the 8i6 because it has everything and more compared to the Roland and it cost less. Yeah NI Maschine is nice, we use that also and very happy with it. Don't wreck your brain man...lol. In my opinion you're on the right track, Focusrite, Roland & NI are all great companies and I own at least one or several products from them all. For what you want to do you'll have more than enough to achieve it.

  • Nice run-through. Now that you've had a few to play with it, how are you liking this unit? The reviews on the net seem mixed, yet lean toward the negative with the 8i6 and the 18i6....how is the 2i2 treating you?

  • @RobertCella thanks man. The 2i2 is nice. I needed something mobile and this has been good so far. I'm a Windows & Mac user, I've tried it with Reason 6, Sonar X1, Sony Vegas Pro9 and Adobe Audition and no problems. The drivers worked right out the box. The pre's are clean and may add a little color but not bad. I imagine the other Scarlett units should be the same.

  • What up. man?

I got me this device (Scarlett 2i2) and I have a problem. I cant really hear myself (my voice) while I record, although "Direct Monitor" is switched *ON*. I hear myself better when I turn "Gain" up, but this way, the recorded vocals are far over 0 db.

How is it with your 2i2? Is it normal that you barely hear yourself even when turning on direct monitoring?

  • @UpSideMuzic Hey man! I normally have my gain around 12 clock. And you can decently hear yourself. When I record I usually have the right side headphones off my ear because I like hearing myself naturally, therefore monitoring isn't a problem. But yes you will audio clip if gain is up too high. In your DAW I suggest turning your music tracks (bus) down some while recording then turn it back up when you're done. Also you can set a limiter/compressor on your channel to catch clipping.----continue

  • @Papasean7

Another thing - we are currently looking for a snger for a House/Pop song. It's not really the music you make, but you might wanna try something different. Get at me on the PM

  • @UpSideMuzic those are 2 ways you can monitor while recording. Depending on your mixing arrangement in your DAW just turn down the grouped mix channels or buses while leaving your over all mix at 0 db then you'll hear your current recording channel clearly without boosting gain but make sure this channel isn't on one of the buses you turned down. Or you can use a limiter/compressor as stated above. Hope this helps man and please post something, I'd love to hear it. :)

  • @Papasean7 thanx for the response!

yea, I've tried putting one side off, but it's very uncomfortable. I'm using Sennheiser HD 280 Pro and thy are just too tight.

Turning the bus down actually works, but still I'm really upset about this (about not being able to turn up the volume).

But the preamp has an excellent sound quality on the In- as on the Outputs.

  • I own this piece of crap I made the mistake of taking the advice of a guitar center sales person. I sold my Avid Mbox primarily because i hate pro tools and i only need 2ins and 2 outs. I was considering Firestudio, NI Komplete Audio 6, Saffire Pro 24. I went with this because of the price and boy oh boy does this thing suck. The audio quality is ok @ best but I really don't like the way it colors the sound a great unit doesn't require a ton of eq to get the vocal to sound descent.

  • @xskullsnapzx yes it does color the sound some but compared to all the other units in it's class it's better in my opinion. Presonus, Art and Alesis also color your sound too therefore to avoid that color you'll have to step up to a more premium unit (ISA One, UA 710, Grace, Summit etc.). I bought this unit because I wanted a clean pre that's USB powered so it works for me. But as you said the audio is ok and for $149 you can't beat that but I do understand your point in regards to color.

  • What do you think of those monitors you're using?

  • @anoldtunesmith The Rokit 8's from krk are nice. With any monitors once you get them you'll get use to them. Depending on placement and size of your room the sound will vary. I've had them over a year now and they're great.

  • Hi, I wonder if you can help me with my 2i2. Recording in Audacity, but what I put into input 1 (shure sm58 mic) records only on the left channel and what goes into input 2 (guitar) records only on the right channel. Do you have any idea why this is? I'm going crazy! Thanks for any help.

  • @mrbruff yes I'll send you a message.

  • @mrbruff Microphone / Line Inputs are recording mono signals. If you have a mic and a guitar plugged in at the same time then it's probably splitting the channel 1 left / 1 right. Try selecting a mono track before you start recording as a stereo track is unnecessary for what you're recording.

  • @mrbruff hey men,is there any news about what you have been experienced??did u fixed it already?

  • Is it really worth the buy though?

  • @1kskinn Definitely worth it. We've tested the 2i2 in X1 & Reason 6 with no problems. As you heard at the end of this video we recorded me singing on a dance-house track I also tracked some vocals on a love ballad and those vocals sounded well also. Personally I like the unit, it's sturdy, no driver issues, bus powered and the pre's are good. Honestly this is probably the best pre on the market for $149. We also have the Saffire 6 and we'll do a comparison and post it soon.
