  • I remember back in 2002-09 riding these Flxible buses. I loved those buses, I use to duplicate the sound, with my mouth, while walking around in the house lol, then, parents would get kinda annoyed to the point where they were like, "Ay buddy, can you cut that noise out!!" Good ol Times :) I also like the fact, that they were very high up, unlike these floor buses we have now. I don' want to be at eye level with a SUV, I want to look down on it lol.

  • I live by the route 52 line, I use to see a bunch of the Flxible buses all the time, even on the 77 Belmont line, but when 2009 came along, that's when I saw more and more New Flyer Buses on both lines.

    Man I Missed Those Buses.

  • I was Very Lucky To Ride A Cummins Flxible on the #51 Back in 1999

  • I sure wish Miami still had their Flexibles. Those were the best buses in service.

  • I once had the chance to drive this series 5745-5764. I drove #5750, that was a bad ass bus! Probably the best bus Ive ever driven. It was fast and powerful! I had it for five hours on Milwaukee ave. When it cam etime to run it back to Forest Glen Garage I was sad to give it up. I knew this would probably be the first and last time I would ever drive these.

  • so-long-metro-b's-you-will-be-mised

  • WANTED: Looking for a photo or slide of CTA 5432 in service. Please e-mail.

  • I do miss them. CTA's Flxible Metros were my favorite. I'm glad that took alot pictures of them.

  • CTA is the way!!!!!!!!

  • shiiidddddd!!!! last time we buses like these was bac in 2003 when GRTC in Richmond VA where im from retired these buses, it was Flxi Metro B 35 ft, retired in late 2003

  • all of these buses are now retired

  • I miss the sound of that bus!

  • pace buses are better, because their buses are more like coaches and they have TVs on them!

  • 5746 has now been retired

  • everyone just to let you know this bus is now retired

  • I never knew what to say about those buses because they had the rims of the 6000 series but the shape of 5300 series flxibles

  • these metro buses shift faster than that of oroin'sbuses down here in algiers, once its in first, it take exactly 6 second toshift, and 3secs before it shifts, it stops accellerating (shift shock) when the clutch kicks in.

  • its like the buses are clutch riding or "granny shifting"( even though its an automatic)it shifts alot smoother.

  • OK... let's get this straight about the CTA Flxible Metros:

    5300-5740, 5765-5769 - 6V-92TA with VR-731

    5741-5745 - 6L-71TA with VR-731

    5746-5754 - L10 with 4HP-590

    5755-5764 - L10 with D863.3ADR

    6000-6229, 6240-6329 - Series 50 with VR-731

    6230-6239 - M11E with 5HP-590

  • Excuse me... I mean that 6000-6229 have the Series 50/Allison and 6230-6329 have the M11/ZF.

  • Now CTA oldest buses the left are the Flxible Metro E's and TMC RTS-08. Go to Chicago and catch those buses before they retired.

  • The other 19 were taken out of service in mid-2007 and have been scrapped or still sitting in the CTA junkyard. 5746 is still in service as of 1/4/08 and is based out of Kedzie Garage.

  • damn, i wish i would have known...damnit....i didnt even get a chance to do videos for those buses because i liked the way they sound...damn...5746 has the 5 speed trans...i wanted to ride 5764...3 speed and sound so goood

  • when did they take the rest of the Cummins busses out of service?

  • The front doors on Chicago Transit's Flxible Metro buses are different than Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority's Flxible Metro buses (which have folding front doors, a feature also used on the Grumman/Flxible 870).

  • I wanted to ask that why is CTA the only transit that has Flxible Metros with different front doors, all rest of cities has Folding front doors, I like those better.

  • DC has them too.

  • I bet the DCs Flxible are probably going to be around for few more years. They're seem to be pretty better shape than CTAs.

  • Well, some of them. DC's in the process of retiring their oldest Flxibles.

  • Well I see that DCs still got their late 80s model like some of 1987s and 1990s which are in progress to retire just like 1989 models in New Jersey Transit.

  • so Cleveland wasnt alone with the 1991 Flexibles with L-10s.

  • not at all...we had like 20 Flxibles with L-10 Cummins. 10 of them had 5 speed transmissions and the other with 3 sped transmissions like the one on ur page. i cant find those buses enroute anywhere..i want to ride one so i can record the sound...

  • well when you do record them, let me know!
