They're supposed to hurt! It's called negative reinforcement. What's meaner? A dog knowing its boundaries and able to roam freely around the yard or being contained in a 5x10 kennel, a 6ft lead or worse, getting run over by a car? My dog has been on invisible fence for 6 years, I know that I can let her out of the house with no fear of her leaving the yard. I'd say she gets a shock about once a year. She will test her boundaries to see if she will still get shocked.
@jess1541 : Right. I will surely NEVER put one of these things on a dog. I can't believe this guy has the courage to put it on himself. It's like watching people get tasered to "find out what it feels like." In this video's case, I think it really is to find out if it's safe for a dog. But other people let themselves get tasered as a joke, almost. It's awful. The whole thing is terrible. Like putting an electric barbed wire fende around someone's or some animal's neck.
Yes... I agree that these are good dog owners. However, I would suspect that the human neck and human skin is much, much thinner and conductive than a dog's.
For instance, have you see the way a dog can drag an owner down the street even with a pinch collar or choke collar?...and do so happily?? We all have. Now, trying doing this yourself. It is impossible.
Still, I love the thoughtful and very funny gesture from these owners.
Which is the trade mark of this collar? Looks very effective...
