  • @skingsdoc I am looking for a decent application for screencapturing ProTools tutorials. I found several good screen capture apps for Mac, but i havent found any that support audio directly from ProTools. What application were you using?

  • really opened eq's up for me!

  • think you my dear i am wait for next sisson

  • its still hard for me to understand using E.Q.s and the difference of the sounds of the levels. Like its just hard for me to grasp that concept. hey how to take the muffle kind of sound away from a vocal and give it more of a clearer crisp sound

  • when i try to start pro tools it says "your digidesign hardware is not connected" or something to that effect. do you need external hardware to run it?

  • @zooby11isbambam yup, a mbox

  • @KiddGuap that's gay. how much is it, where do i get it?

  • what do you need to get quality voice in pro tools

  • OK I would greatly appreciate your help. I just mixed my first verse with some compression and EQ. I stacked the tracks with a duplicate but slightly offset-ted it to make it a fuller sound. Absolutely happy with the first verse but now I can't for the life of me match the second verse to sound close to as good as the first verse. Can I copy the compression and EQ to the second verse or what do I do. Thank you so much for your help.

  • I love the standard eq's that come with PT

  • do you have the actual song from this girl ? if so can you post it up or give a link

  • the LE version requirements say I need a dedicated hard drive. Can I just get a 500GB external hard drive for it?

  • @Rawr5649 Protools is not going to like a USB drive for recording to. You will be much better off adding an internal SATA drive. If you MUST go external, Id recommend firewire.

  • @daggergblue I have a mac book pro. Can you add an internal SATA drive?

  • who is the girl singing????????

    who is she skingsdoc?????

tell me what her name is pleasee!!

  • @PrettyBoyWebb Her name is Brandi she from here in New York

  • @PrettyBoyWebb yo! does she has that song out

  • video straight

  • hello I am a beginner and I must have cloth ears because I could hardly tell any difference in what the guy was doing. I think it would be more helpful to play 'before' and 'after' versions so one can identify the diferences . Then when I do it myself I may have beter undertanding of the result of altering these frequencies .

  • its funny how i dnt have to see your face to know you black :p

  • is the eq even on the right track cause i can't hear any difference in the voice... also the singer was a lil close to the mic or just the wrong mic for her, gives her voice a "lower" nasal sound...

  • LOL great lyrics wow

  • Hey listen to that song voice suCKS!XD

  • very true skingsdoc!

  • Hey bro who is that singing; can I find that track with her on it somewhere?

  • LULZ! eq'ing a track without hearing it!!11 epic! just...epic!

  • @gwb911 If you ever start doing Professional work you may learn this method one day sometimes you may need to do this try it and see before you react. Music and recording is an art form once you understand the basics branch out and experiment. Phil Spector used the wall of sound to make his music stand out with a dense verb effect in the 50's and 60's that was considered wrong to do but it worked engineering is and art form just like music just like art. The color green has many colors.

  • eq goes AFTER compressor nub cake! omg lulz... cause....compressor effect eq...

  • @gwb911 Actually it always varies.... Some people prefer it b4 some after.... No way is wrong my friend

  • Pro tools Stock EQ are good..the Compressor isn't

  • goodddddddd

  • @aron2454 Whats good? Send me something, I most def am down with that. No fee charged, I do this for the love.. Putting together my album. Kward1718@yahoo.com Send me a beat and out a verse on it and I will get it back to you ASAP...

  • @aron2454 Everything really depends on preference... If your vocals sound to far away there isnt much you can do that I am aware of.. If you are two close and you get a decent sound that might sound to close.. You can always try subtractive EQ... But if you are too close and you are getting those pops and noises that cant really be removed I would say move back.. Its real hard to tell whats the problem without hearing it. Those Ribbon mics are real funny though.

  • @aron2454 I'm no professional but in my opinion it sounds like the mic might be your problem.. I would recommend a condensor mic and a nice popfilter with a home built wind/noise filter.. The MXL 990 is a cheap mic that is ranked pretty good, even though the highs can be bothersome without a pop filter.

  • you are such shit as a tutor.your explanations are vague and useless.

  • have a problem with mixing my vocals. Im not satisfied with the way they sound. 1 i get a bassy vocal that vibrates my monitors and 2ndparts of the vocals are a to loud where it hurts my eardrums.tried eqing and compressin.need to know what im doing wrong.my mic too hi?is there a plugin that exists to get rid of this, i just start recording month ago.my equipments r at4040 mic, protools 8,hs80 yamaha monitors,my interface is the mbox2. pleze help do i need to buy or do something?

  • the problem is the vocalist is to close to the mic which can cause a bass proximity effect try it yourself get close and record. You need to set up a windscreen before you record get the right distance and practice to get it right, I use to experiment with a vocalist before I started doing real vocal takes I would record and practice for days just to get the best vocals I could. A Mic Pre Amp would help too.

To learn more about using Pro Tools LE 8 or 7 just get our 5 DVDs for just $20

  • @skingsdoc how long are these videos? what kinda info does it contain?

  • the Pro Tools videos are 9 hours long and cover everything from how to setup to the menu to editing audio to assigning tracks to I/O setup, using the mixer and edit windows we made sure we covered everything that anyone needs to know to use Pro Tools for their production.

  • @skingsdoc I'd have to agree with you there

  • @skingsdoc That is very true. She is definitley too close or they are recording in a very small too compressed area. But some songs sound good like that.

  • @stronga1999 get on the eq n lower the lower hertz thats were bass is at n highten the middle, not a pro but thats what i do when my vocals come out like that n it seems to work :)

  • @FiSTFigHT09

  • @skingsdoc yeah but it would be better if you use rap music

  • will it take me long to learn how to mix things.....im new at trying to learn i know how to use pro tools LE just not mix will it take long to learn?

  • Not long once you know what your doing we have our Pro Tools Mixing and Mastering DVDs (5) that will help you and once you order from help is there for you to learn more call us at 718 715 4652

  • im new to this mixing stuff i have really no idea how to do all of this.....i have protools LE and i know how to work everything im not good at mixing.....will it take me long to learn???

  • @TheNicoRobles That all depends on how often you work at it and how serious you are at getting good.. But I would say a few weeks you will probably like the sound, a few months and yo will love it, a few years and you will think you are a pro.. If you have the right plugins.

  • how do i get rid of bassy vocalssS??!??!

  • use you EQ and cut the bass down

  • @Dukke214 just bring up the highs and lower the lows dat shud do..

  • Not really each vocalist or Rapper all have their own frequency that atands out like Jay Z or Snoop you job as an engineer is to find it and bring it out and get rid of the freq's the you don't need like some bass then expand the it.

  • I know nothing and this is real helpful to me thank you. I wondered what that plug in was for.

  • LOL Get Em... Hold up... If U know Then Why Are You Watching this video?... well ur probably in school for it... I am too

  • crap i mean the compressor comes first my bad

  • yea eq comes first

  • i have a couple of questions. What is a good volume to set my input at when recording? also How well do the default audiosuites like should i use those or buy other ones if so which one is a good one to purchase?

  • Question.. When recording rap vocals.. How many duplicates do you recommend? Pan one left one right and one center? How many would you recommend?

  • @dachi89 I got enuf money to buy u and ur who family nigga...so fuck off sendin msges if soulja boy ur idol dets all ya gotta say dnt mension det nig name ova here patna...Im done I deep throat ur momma every nite is dat why u mad nigga?....IM DONE RESPONDIN TO UR MONKEY AZZ...fagget boi

  • Where's the sound?

  • wheres the sound?

  • Say I'm new to pro tools how do yu save wat yu did

  • how do i Put autotune on protool?

  • hello guys... i would like some info... Is there any way to make a 5.1 surround project on pro tools LE 8 ???

  • Yes, but you need to buy the Complete Production Toolkit, which is $2000 alone. But it does up to 7.1 surround!

  • @djhellfire1 Thank you for the reply...i guess i have to wait for a while cuz if i buy such a tool kit im might not find any use for it cuz im still learning the software and hardware... on the other hand i sure i saw once a plugin that can accelerate the channels. i need to spend hours searching the net..

  • *cough* bittorrent *cough*

  • Yeah, I like to try before I buy. This kit ain't on there yet.

  • The red light in the corner has nothing to do with the function of the sound. If it is turned off, you can open several plugins on the screen.

The bypass is in the upper middle part and reads "bypass"...

  • DO NOT PUT UR EQ B4 COMPRESSION

  • @darklotusfaygo only depends right?

  • haha the presence wont work because that red light on the corner is red

  • I need a sound card M-audio for this software?

  • acording to avid and digi design the compressor comes b4 the eq read the pdf's they include with the program thanx for helping people make shitty music it makes my job easier

  • @M3usic1 lol calm down man, it depends on what type of sound your looking for. some vocals dont even have compression put on them and at the same token, EQ only munipulates the true sound. So if you have a great Mic and a Great singer you really dont have to have EQ. Some acoustic artist record RAW

  • You're very proud of yourself but you obviously don't know what you're talking about.

We use Eq B4 compressor ! to clean the sound if unwanted frequencies have to be clean.

And we use Eq after compressor to ad missing frequencies if they have to be ad.

"my job easier"....lol, you probably work in a restaurant.

  • @module61

whats wrong with a restaurant. I am sure you go out to eat, but i got it, why eat from people working at a restaurant.

    Grow up!!

just say you use an EQ B$ compressor "thats It"

  • module is right and this is what I tried to show. You have remember recording and the use of plugins or out board gear is a creative process and you need to listen for the changes that and EQ, a Compressor, a Expander, a Gate , a Limiter make on your track. I have done a lot of records here in New York the only reason why I have BIG EARS

  • @M3usic1 eq comes first you DUMASS, IF U AINT IN SCHOOL CLOSE YA MOUTH. Why would u eq after you did your compression?

  • @ThaJokerProductions

You need to learn read mix mag as more pro's here in New York I've done a lot of records over the years when I started recording as an asst I learned a lot you need to learn and wake to the truth. Take an 808 bass drum and do the EQ first then do the Comp first listen and experiment learn.

  • @ThaJokerProductions It depends on what kind of sound you are going for... I've heard it all depends on taste and flavor.. I always add a little air eq after vocals because i like the sound in some recordings.

  • im havin problems recordin vocals on protools, i just got it a couple days ago, and i got da mbox mini, and when i record i can hear myself in da headphones, but it doesnt record my vocals, and i cant see ne waveforms, please help...

  • @YoungerCee have you figured it out yet

  • @YoungerCee are ther tracks you are attempting to record into record enabled?

  • Did you ever get that fixed?

  • your voice is soo cool!

  • cool video man, im still in the learning process but i play rock with melodic vocals, is this pretty much the same with all styles?thanx

  • thx u soo much sir.. more video! :)

  • if you are using eq presets, try to stay away from them. everything you work with, ESPECIALLY vocals, will be different in some way. presets are a good starting point.. but you need to use your ears to make everything sound as natural as possible.. or if not natural, how you want it to sound. never rely on presets.

  • can yu make your own setting and save it as a preset

  • of course you can.

  • alrite cuz i just got pro tools m-powered and i didnt kno if it was like my old program where yu could make ur own and save so thanx

  • great video i learned something. -13

  • i jus got this software and im recording with an acoustic guitar through a mic, and im gettin too much bass on playback...wat would you suggest?...

  • move the mic back away from the guitar. could be proximity effect

  • well, for one thing, what mic are you using? if dynamic, then its normal for it to be bassy. secondly, where do you place the mic? if its right over the hole, then theres your problem. move the mic.

  • a good starting point is using a condenser mic (on cartoid) pointed at the fretboard at the octave fret (about 4 in up the neck from the sound hole.) Close to the sound hole gets you more bass, Close to the bridge gets you more pick/finger noise and high end.
