Can someone tell me why the police stopped this peaceful protest? What made the police think those people were armed, causing any harm and/or posing a threat? I just don't see it. All I do see is that their rights were being violated. And if the charter of rights and freedoms really was suspended during that time, doesn't that mead the gov't knowingly endangered citizens?

These Police officers did what they did because our city was vandalized and ruined by these "Peaceful Protestors." They also destroyed several police cars by setting them on fire. They smashed windows of buildings/stores belonging to hard working owners, causing them to lose several days of business trying to repair what some worked all their lives for. The same people who these so called protestors were protesting for. I stand by The Toronto Police that day...GOOD JOB!
Some of the things that the commenting people forget is that these cops are not foreigners enforcing some strange law. They are not from other parts of the country here to exact vengeance on Toronto. They have not been told to or believe in hating the population of Toronto. Many are just other citizens of Toronto that just want to make sure their city isn't torn apart. I disagree with the way the G20 acts. I have seen more violent protest from them than any other group. I agree that if they weren't legally protesting then they should be arrested(not sure on toronto's law so I said IF). They smashed windows of buildings/stores belonging to hard working owners, causing them to lose several days of business trying to repair what some worked all their lives for. The same people who these so called protestors were protesting for. I stand by The Toronto Police that day...GOOD JOB!

Not ALL police are bad, oppressive, brutal, and evil! if you provoke the police, ofcourse their going to retaliate. The worst thing is that protesters can attack the police, but if the police retaliate, they get in trouble and usually loose their job. The police can't deal with any problems themselves because they are the ones who end up in getting suspended :P don't complain, they're only doing their job. You say 'Peaceful Protest' as in sit there quietly and comply with the police, not standing in a group chanting and provoking them :P

@TheDigitalLiberty Yeah, I took Canadian Law for three years. And yes, they can detain you up to 24 hours without cause, and I think up to two weeks if they suspect foulplay. (Don't quote me on that last bit, I'm not entirely sure)
My 'deal' as you put it is that you were causing a rather loud and unweildy commotion in the streets of Toronto. The police were perfectly aloud to arrest you, so before you assume too much, check your law. I HATE how everyone abuses their rights&freedms then compl.

Military, Police, etc. Especially since they had no idea if you guys had weapons or not, and you have to admit, Toronto has one of the worst crime rates in Canada. They are allowed to use force, search, and detain people under a situation exactly like this.
