"I don't care what doctors say, I don't care what your family says, this is not in your head. This is the real deal." is a rather ignorant thing to say. There are people that have not even tried the foods they don't want to eat, so yeah, with some people it's all in their heads. Sure, there are people with a legitimate condition, but you can't say that every single person that claims that they have a medical issue is correct.
some children have acid reflux after certain foods so they develop aversion to certain foods very young. then they are left with this continued fear with no recollection of the phisiological root cause.
I´m an adult picky eater from Spain. Sadly, my english is not good, and there are a great lack of information and literature in spanish about this disorder. The people around you always think that you are a bizarre or stupid person. Is tough.
@veronicakills1010 It is not about time. Would you say the same to a person with light sensitive eyes, or kids with over sensitive hearing, or what about people who allergic to certain fibers? Taste is not different. Look up "supertasters"...It is genetic.... Duke University is doing a study as we speak. Picky eating is real. Yes some grow out of it but thousands of us to not. It is also multi-generational.
i am 43 and never new i had some type of eating disorder until i saw a news repoort about it.i am in the works to write a book now.good luck to every 1.you are not alone.
Thank you so much for posting this on youtube! I just joined the forum and am so happy to know that I am not alone! No one wants to try to understand what I go through and I hope that some time in the near future the public can become more understanding of picky eaters. It is not a choice.
I hate being a picky eater! I hate it so much! Just the thought of eating most fruits and vegetables makes me gag. I equate it to eating something like cockroaches.
@shred440 oh sighssss I feel the same way I hate being a picky eater but I cannot help it :( i've been this way all my life . I know what you mean when u say eating certain foods are like eating cockroaches I feel the same way about eating fish, clams, oysters or anything seafoody [ yes, that is not a real word I made it up] .... thinking of these things make me nauseous
Anybody is free to e-mail me, I am the first person on the video.
Especially anyone who knows how to create a scientific survey. I want to submit it to NIH, hoping to be taken seriously. There are thousands of us on the yahoo group. With thousands of the same response in ALL demographics around the world, maybe our voices will be heard.
@Rhondi8 I am sorry I don't know how to start a survey ... but today I took that test from Duke Univ about picky eaters and arghhhh I was kind of annoyed they kept rephrasing questions on if I was anorexic, bulimic or if I had OCD. I am not of those things I happen to be picky and I can't eat certain foods cause I think it's gross. Those ppl are trying to label picky eaters are ppl with a eating disorder in the DSM[ Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders] . That's just wrong.
allt this 3 people are a combination of what my son 's eating habits are ,he is only 8 he has being a piky eater since he turn 8 , i took hin to clinics doctors etc still doing it any site for children picky eaters
somebody knows of a site for children my son is 8 vears since he turned almost one year of age
no meat no veggies no fruit unless is banana and with the banana it takes him like an hour to eat it he is having pediasure, grilled cheese sandwich , mac and cheese ,banana , apple juice ,some sweets , mashed potatoes he gets constipated very often got this book to teach you how to hide veggies and meat on my son's favorite dishes
Without being sarcastic, I find it interesting that there seems to be a distinct lack of picky eaters in poorer countries where food in scarce (there are also very few in Europe where food is expensive). Having traveled extensively I have never come across picky eaters like these exept for in the US. Could it be that in America we simply have the 'luxury' to be difficult?
We have support groups made up of people from all over the world. Many from Europe and other english speaking countries. How would you ever know if there are people like us in the poorer countries.
He may not grow out of it. I am 41 and still the same. This is NOT a choice. I am working on getting a college or NIH to do a study to give us legitimacy and to help kids like your son, not go through what we adults went through. Folks thinking we do this for attention and we have a choice. NO on both counts.
Without being sarcastic, you are completely a clown LegalAlien. I know when people like you see things like this, it seems real simple to you, but for us its a disability. To act like its some stupid snobby thing that we have just shows how ignorant you are. Just because you visited another country doesn't mean you know all their eating habits. There are so few of us, how can you claim to have met so many foreigners that you know them all?? Pretentious + Ignorant = You
I am not a snob; quite the opposite actually. The point that I was trying to make is that through experience I have observed that in underdeveloped countries picky eaters either did not survive childhood or that they simply had to adapt as adults to accommodate for limited food resources. I know that you might think that I am challenging you (and perhaps I am) but I am just giving you a little insight.
Not true. I am compiling a list of adult picky eaters. We are all over the world, yes in underdeveloped countries too. I make it a point how important these folks are to our mission that this is nature not nurture. I know folks will think picky eating is an American or western country thing. . . it is not a choice. And contrary to "experts" no if we get hungry enough we still won't eat food we don't like. We go hungry often (especially) in business settings.
@LegalAlien100 We have members is Philippines, Malaysia, Brazil, Norway, Costa Rica, Australia, Greece, and we know there are many others who are suffering thinking they are the only ones because they have not found the group.
@Rhondi8 You are STILL not understanding what I am saying by my statements. I am talking about undeveloped countries; not 1st World or progressing 2nd World countries like those that you have just listed. People in Norway, Greece, Australia etc. all have food options available to them. I am talking about citizens from places like Honduras, Haiti, Congo etc. These people are not picky because they cannot afford to turn down the food that they obtain because of the risk of starvation.
@LegalAlien100 Keep check back. We are working on spreading the message of picky eating... I KNOW we will find such people in the countries you named.
I started crying when I watched this. I'm a picky eater and I live with a boyfriend who doesn't understand. I feel so good knowing there's someone else...
