  • why is he sweating?

  • I reckon Buddy knew this without even knowing what it was.

It just came naturally to him.

  • Makes me wanna jump a bridge knowing I'll never be able to achieve this.

  • Watching this is not good for the self esteem.

  • I watch his fingers and still don't understandthen Itry it and fel so gofy and uncoordinated.Anyone know exactly how to do this?

LOL Might go to a teacher and say "I want to learn all the Mayer techniques"

    Teacher falls on floor.

  • the 4 dislikers are octopus', they all have 8 arms so they don't need any suggestion from Jojo

  • Comment removed

  • I have a video of me doing this but its quite hard.

  • For the right hand one should be using all fingers to push don't and to pull up. And the thumb is really key. U have to be able to move thumb just as fast.

  • OH! I got it! Holy shit. that's cool. What he's not saying is that ya gotta release the fulcrum and throw the stick forward with your 1st finger then catch it and pull it back with the 4th finger.Keep the palm almost pointing to the ground and double stroke rolls in groups of 2 on your left hand. The bounces eventually won't be fast as your hand motion and the doubles will close to a very fast hard soft 16th note "roll".

  • That 's a sick stick magic trick!........my sister says practice magnets...I reckon its muller light technique

  • Since when did Howard Stern play drums? haha

  • OMG!!! i cant even get that speed with both hands :S he is a freakin genius

  • I just learned about this awesome technique. It's freakin hard.

  • does anyone know if there are any videos that describe his push -pull traditional grip stroke in depth?

  • @zuma5278255424

I know this was 4 months ago, but his instructional DVD does a great job of explaining just about everything.

  • @TD2995 thanks :P

  • is there any videos that describe his push -pull traditional grip stroke in depth?

  • Joe joe has speed for days... technique and finesse monster

  • Hes obviously jeus in a bad di

  • @travisBrulzz yeah probably, especially considering there is no drummer named buddy ritch, whoever buddy ritch is, probably isnt a very good drummer. so you make a good point.

  • @travisBrulzz your nick already strips you of any respect from any self respecting drummers.

  • this guy didnt even do a solo and im still amazed

  • IT's a great technique but it is NOT the way Buddy Rich played PERIOD!!!!!

  • @drumminman49 You seem pretty confident its not, but im pretty sure he does, he would get extra strokes by releasing his fingers on the downstroke using the thumb as the pivot point and then again on the upstroke by using the second pivot point on the top of the stick... i.e push pull combined with moeller, just as jm explained.

  • speechless

  • Actually it is buddy played who are u fuck head. Get his video get an education in the world of drums so u don't do to this to your self again.

  • Great chops for sure, but that is not the way Buddy played. This is what he thinks.....WRONG!

  • HAHAA!!!

  • the great

  • .... "i don't really use this staff i use it when i go into like a music store... to get attention" . but now because of that he created a new style in druming technique and a new alternative in music.

  • IDK where lateralus1007 lies in all of this but here's how I see it: Jordison pretty much needs two bass drums/double kick to play blastbeats. Jojo Mayer, should he ever need or want to, could do it with a single pedal on one bass drum.

Jojo is the person to look to for awesome technique on drum-set. He's the Buddy Rich of our generation (or very close to it).

  • @IPstixrawesume I think now JM is better than BR. JM has better idea of himself during drumming. This is pure SOUL! Only my personal opinion. Of course there's no such thing like the best drummer.

  • lateralus1007 is obviously a fan of tool, and as a drummer, probably a fan of danny carey, who is quite good. but lets be honest people...after aenima, tool began to suck their own cocks. there's only so much "i'm weak, so i cry which makes me strong but i'm lost so i try to find myself but i fail so i hurt cuz i'm weak and that's my strength i know the pieces fit" lyrical dogshit i can take before i start to think, OK toolband, you're officially a bunch of fags. as is lateralus007.

  • Go listen to Porcupine Tree.

  • @octavarium23 Dream theater is better than porcupine tree

  • @xXxIFORSAKENxXx gavin harisson is better than portnoy

  • @xXxIFORSAKENxXx yea right;(

  • lateralus1007==> Jordison's fan?

  • @lateralus dude are you fucking retarded.if you dont think thats talent then your fucking retarded.

  • @andres00004 I think it has a lot more to do with practice then it has to do with talent.

  • Is he like three here? Jesus, JoJo is a God!

  • Those recordings of Buddy chewing out his band, weren't real members. They were a bunch of college student punks who were playing like shit because they'd rather party all night before the show. Everyone who actually KNEW Buddy Rich said he was nothing like that! Besides, who gives a shit.....he was an amazing talent!

  • why did he say sorry at 0:10?

    :S

  • lol a persons character should have no consequence on the greatness of his art, miles davis and charles mingus were well known musical genius douches

  • wtf i just said that their personality should not be a criteria in judging their art

  • @lateralus1007 lol he's swiss...

  • 1:12 realmente, increible,maravilloso....jajajajaja Superstar,sorprendente.

  • 1:12 smoking!!!!

  • i agree with jojo on the getting attention thing at a music store! hehe

dang i need to buy his dvd, jojo's a monster

  • Jojo's techniques are amazing.

  • lol awesome

  • i like jojo but gavin harisson still my hero

  • ITS OVER 9 THOUSSSANDDDD lol

  • F*CK! He is good to a point I hate him!

  • Buddy rich was really a great drummer...like jojo

  • if buddy was alive he would kick yr fuckin head in dude.

  • @blader901 he was a deush

  • @blader901 as that a scream of attention i hear there? get a life Douche

  • dude seriously he was such a tool. sure he was a great drummer but that says nothing about him as a person.

  • buddy rich really was a douche :p everyone go look up him bitching at his band if you dont believe it, none the less he was a great drummer

  • hey hey come on, I know where you're coming from, but let's not decend into unitelligent name calling bs

  • I love the comment about the music store..very down to earth and sense of hummor...the music store is a very competative place for musicsians...hahaha

  • Have to like those secrets.........

  • bokunu yiyem lan coco. güldürdün beni :D:D

  • bacanak sen de bu yorumla çok güldürdün beni :D

  • jojo is simply the best drummer =)

  • wut about tony williams and buddy rich

  • I probs sound like a bit of an idiot but wots WFD? Sorry

  • world's fastest drummer

  • no. the worlds fastest is buddy rich.

  • nah, my comment was in repky to angry chipmunk99, who was asking but WFD meant. But actualy the world's fastest drummer was Art Verde last I heard, he beat Buddy Rich's record

  • Other than speed, what's Verde got going for 'his sound'? Buddy Rich played drums in the context of a musical instrument (which few even today do)0 ... and he did it with his genius talent ...

Nice of you to post 'complements' to Verde ... not picking on you.

  • oh yeah I totally agree, I think my fav jazz drummer, well classic jazz drummer anyway is probably Elvin Jones, just because of his feel. Modern- wise I'd say it's between brian blade, marvin smith and... maybe Dave Weckl

  • I like your taste, but can you point me to some records with weckl playin jazz? never heard him swing before...

  • oh, check out chick corea's akoustic band = incredible!

  • i am unsure. Buddy was fast but not compared to some of todays drummers. Mike mangini can hit little over 20 strokes per second and johnny rabb scorred awesomly with the gravity blast...

  • reply*

  • True, but i havent seen anybody do those fast , varied triplets on the hihat like buddy used to with a single hand, i havent seen anybody come close.

  • who gives a shit about speed they both can play the drums very well slow fast medium speed. speed in their world is just a tool.

  • goodbye folks. i gotta practise some push- pull...

  • i have the secret weapons DVD as well. one of the most amazing things i have seen in 10+ years. i have enough stuff to practice for 4 years. Jojo Mayer College. heh. his technique is insane. he *could* do well at WFD, but who really give a flying F___. real musicians need not apply.

  • On another note, the music store joke is hilarious.

  • jojo doesnt belong in the WFD comp. He is a musical genius

  • even so.....he has about 6 different methods if going that fast!!!...just got his dvd...amazing!

  • 180 bpm and beyond? He could break Mangini's record!

  • the push pull was banned from wfd comp.'s

  • Why?

  • Because WFD isn't about functionality or musical application. It's about brute speed. Push-pull can do the same stuff with less effort, but effort is all WFD really cares about.

    ...In summation, fuck WFD.
