PS: the remake never did this film justice it just does'nt have the gritty atmosphere of the classic original

One last point . One of the final scenes in this film I found extremely harrowing when I was much younger , though that is probaberly my own fault for watching the movie as a kid

@multiplemugs I think your memory may be playing tricks on you - it is much better than it was. I remember when the Inter City 125 was introduced around 1978 - incredibly comfortable I thought then. Much better than when Jack travelled north a few years earlier.

Michael Caine is superb in this. I love the way there's a feeling that he has manners and dresses well but he would kill you without a second thought. That's acting I suppose.
