anyone else think this is about the grittiest movie ever?
PS: the remake never did this film justice it just does'nt have the gritty atmosphere of the classic original
One last point . One of the final scenes in this film I found extremely harrowing when I was much younger , though that is probaberly my own fault for watching the movie as a kid
@multiplemugs I think your memory may be playing tricks on you - it is much better than it was. I remember when the Inter City 125 was introduced around 1978 - incredibly comfortable I thought then. Much better than when Jack travelled north a few years earlier.
I think you would have got some soup if you had paid for it!
Michael Caine is superb in this. I love the way there's a feeling that he has manners and dresses well but he would kill you without a second thought. That's acting I suppose.
Apart from "J", other anomalies are Eric Paice losing a shoe on the beach, then regaining it mysteriously, and Margaret's shoe colour changes in the ginnel.
this must be one of the best british films ever , the 70s were so good no political correctness no insulting islam or shit like that ... what we got now just a memory .
That's an amazing observation! I love this film and have watched it loads of times - how ironic that "J" is among the first characters we see and the last. Thanks for the info.
Deltic at 1:56 - anyone know which one?

@bluebus270 Another (diliberate) anomaly is the old man with 6 fingers drinking in the bar at Newcastle train station

@tonymontana1974 Anomaly - ie an irregularity, abnormality, peculiarity, a deviation from the norm, etc

@bluebus270 Fairly sure the J "anomaly" is intentional.

I see Carter likes Raymond Chandler novels. Maybe he models himself on Marlowe.

Michael Caine was much more convincing/believeable as Jack Carter than Stallone ever was.
KaraLarson26 2 years ago 22
@KaraLarson26 I cant understand why Caine agreed to act in the remake!
alanheath2 1 year ago 2
@alanheath2 I don't understand why either.

@KaraLarson26 That's such a no-brainer.Comparing Stallone and Caine?!

The man with the cigarette in the railway carriage is "J" the hitman who shoots Carter at the end.
