That's normal in germany...we've always such translations, mostly no subtitles...well, not so good in that case here because you really want to listen to abba's voices but easier for just watching tv and relaxing...
I remember seeing that interview in Switzerland. I was shown in 1978 at a program called Karusell. Agnetha seemed not very focused that day, chewing her gum and had nothing to say. Great to see that footage again.
Benny: I think the reason for our success is that we have the same taste in music as most other people. Often musicians taste is really different to the majority. They are more interested in more fastidious music like Modern Jazz or something like that and thats why their music is much more difficult to record and not that plausible than ours.
Björn: We have real fun working out a plausible melody.
They talk about the media. Here's a sample of the interview:
Björn: A Lot of the stories which you can read in the papers are invented, but like I told you we act naturally. We are two really normal couples and not actors. We are always ourselves. There is this phenomenon (dont know if it is everywhere the same), but here in Sweden they permanently hack on anyone something, especially the journalists as soon as you are successfully. But I think the average audience think we are good.
Benny: Of course we are interested in a lot of music styles, from opera and classic music to rock n' roll and rhythm and blues. There are big differences, but every music style has its qualities.
Björn: I think people who listen to our music feel the different influences. For us as musicians it is certainly good to listen to other artists music. Its hard to detract from those influences.
Oh, thank you very much! It is cristal clear that they got their philosophy on musical appeal so right from the very beginning. No wonders they have conquered every heart and ear!
Hey, John. I don't think it quite fair of you to ignore that part where Frida talked. Could you please post a translation of what she said too please? Many thanks.
I was just doing it from the start Lan, so happy to oblige. Here's Frida's bit:
Frida: Im very interested in the feminine movement. I dont know how it is in Switzerland, but Im glad that here in Sweden it had been intensive disputed about women questions. There is a very radical feminine movement, whose standpoint I cant advocate. I think that we (men and women) have to help and to back each other. It is not just a womens issue, but for men too and we are dependant on one another.
My mom says if they hadn't sung in English they wouldn't be on their way to reach the star, would they?
Good job!
