  • whoever disliked this...i'd like to shoot in the face...sorry

  • best song in the world, enough said

  • This is the first time I have ever heard this tune and think it says a lot to so many people living in Canada and abroad.

  • omg why doesnt this song have 999 million views I LOVE IT!!!!!

  • @LaFont1234 cause we only have 33 million in our country and a few million speak FRENCH!!! lafont1234 lol so that brings our country down a notch

  • my favorite song by the hip- flawless

  • great tune

  • absolutely beautiful.

  • I think the song beautifully describes how identity is not limited by boundaries of nationality or origins, but a combined experience of the people that know you and the way you know yourself. Although I am sure it must be great to be Canadian, it doesn't half cover the poetic load of The Talented Hip, whom just as all of us, are mere mortals.

  • listening to Fiddlers Green on september 17th... Nice!

  • I came late to the Hip. I'm 33, and they were huge when I was in high school. I guess I was just too "cool" for them or something. Older and humbler, I'm slowly coming to understand what people saw (and continue to see) in them. Songs like this and Bobcaygeon are just heart-breakingly beautiful. I hope I get a chance to see them before we all get too old.

  • @Thrax1 check out gord downies solo stuff too then.. I love this man! Saw him live last fall. The best part of it was the concert was at the same spot where my friends and i would hang out to drink and listen to the hip when we were teens. It was as tho the night of the concert was the closing credits to an era for me. (im 32)

  • This is the only song I know of that I can play from 1 am until 2:40 am and still not be tired of it. It has that quality! Thank you!

  • zinnia we all wait for a sign when someone dear passes your lucky you have received yours...

  • This was always my favourite song, but just this morning my little cousin of 6 years old passed away suddenly. Now I feel like I've never connected to this song like I do now. You never know what might happen..

  • nice song

  • this is the first time in a long time I've listened to this song and the first time I've not cried...

  • This song's for my Bro sean

  • @awoodhouse92 i'm probably going to click like one your comment everyday for the rest of my life

  • song gives me chills

  • GREAT FUCKING SHOW LAST NIGHT!!!!!!!! (July 1st, 2011, downsview park)

  • saw them last night in moncton; nothing short of incredible. album quality, energetic, excellent stage presence.

  • going to see then july 10th again cant wait <3

  • im canadian and i could'nt give 2 shits that they are too! its about the music people! canada is simply a border! a label!

  • @jerodirwin66 I agree it should be about the music and not nationality or image. However it's too bad that you see our country as a "label" and "just a border", because Canada is the best country in the world and more people in this country should be proud. It is a shame that you can't find or see the reasons to love this country. I personally am proud when one of our own make it in an industry that does not seem to welcome individuallity, especially ones with real talent not manufactured Beiber

  • This is the most beautiful song the Hip wrote.

I give it honorary Irish reel status.

It's timeless and will go down with other great's like the original Fiddler's Green, I'm a man you don't meet every day, If I Ever Leave This World Alive and the Humours of Tullah.

  • @rrtodd95 The Hip says the most beautiful song they ever wrote is "Flamenco". They said that once at a show years ago. I personally think Fiddlers Green is more beutifuller too!

  • lol this is totally not the fiddler's green i was looking for but its pretty good ;)

  • Simple, sweet, The Hip - hit this one out of the park..........

  • Wow

  • I think I have they Stereophonics to thank for putting me onto this. I like their version but it is no where near as good as this.

  • @gwythp This version is better, but Kelly Jones still has the worlds best damn voice :D

  • One those really powerful songs you hear every now and then, it's extremely sad but I love it.

  • My son's birthday is sept.17, this song has always touched my heart.

  • I played this song at my Dads funeral. Rest in Peace Pops. Missing you.

  • love this tune.

  • this song is mine and my son's he's 11yrs old and we can sit and replay snuggle and listen...BEAUTIFUL

  • oh how i miss you..hope your well

  • My nephew had a heart transplant and died not long after. This was his favorite song! We played it at his funeral. It reminds me of him when I hear it .

  • @amysticsoul I am sorry for your loss. This song is so perfect,. I don't know if I could get through it at a funeral, even if it was a favorite. I lost a baby brother when I was 5 and still grieve. I'm 59 now. Bless you and your family!

  • Damn strong.

  • such a soulful voice

  • 4 people should be sent to fiddlers green!

  • this song will always have a place in my heart...my father plays this on his guitar and sings, and it really makes me realize that were so lucky...in every way

  • My Son's little parrot Jambeard was humanely euthanized on Sept 17/10. The last thing I asked the little guy was to please tell my Son, who died at 14 on Jan23/08, that I loved him.An hour later I heard this amazing song on the radio and got the refeference of a boy' passing. I got the title and that night played it over & over. Feeling a deep connection, I went toa lyrics site where an ad had a little parrot fly across the lyrics to Fiddlers Green and knew Little Jambeard found his way there

  • @zinnia131 thats really amazing. sorry for your loss.

  • @zinnia131 Deeply touching, an amazing and moving song for many..

  • @zinnia131 Your comment gave me chills. There is a higher power at work in this universe. Kindest thoughts be with you.

  • @zinnia131 I`ve never seen a feel comment about a pet parrot before. *starts slow clap*

  • @zinnia131 sorry for your loss......we can always lean on music in times such as yours.

  • @zinnia131 That's honestly one of the touching stories I've read on YouTube. Sorry for your loss, but it's comforting to know he's up there looking down smiling with pride at the fact you've stayed so strong during such a rough time.

  • such a beautiful song.

  • There is a poem called Fiddlers Green that we recited almost daily when I was in the Army. This is a beautiful song and in a different kind of way it reminds me of the days I spent in the service and reciting that poem. This song makes me tear up...

  • Wish There Was A "Love" Button Not Just A "Like" =)

  • THank You

  • this song reminds me of my life in hamilton ont, there's a road called fiddler's green. Having been in alberta for sometime now, i miss it alot thanks boys...viva la hip

  • Just had to play it today... Sept. 17.

    Happy Mother's Day

  • This is the first time in almost 20 years of knowing this song that I thought of it on the date mentioned in the first line.

  • last week i heard this song on my ipod and the lyrics reminded me of my ex wife and my son. september 17 (my sons bithday) for a girl i know its mothers day (she gave bith to my son that dat) she left us 12 years ago she chose drugs over us thursday i had to tell my son that his mother took her life. the hardest thing i ever did. the song now gives me goosebumps. i think ill ask if they will play it at her wake.

  • @elmarco777 I am currently playing the song to my daughter for the first time, whose birthday is shared with your son, Sept. 17. She'll be 5. I'll think of you, your son and his mother that day. My best to you.

  • @MadHabber93 My son turn 20 on sept 17, he has grown into a fine youg man, even though hes was almost 20 when she die it didnt make it any easier. suicide is a selfish act, she left us to clean up her mess. thank you for your kind words and im sure that ill think of you and daughter on that day also.

  • @elmarco777 I did think of the two of you that day, as I watched my 5 year old daughter playing with her friends. Cheers.

  • @elmarco777 thats so sad, im so sorry.

  • @PAULisDEADMANnumber9n thank you

  • such a sad and beautiful song; i just looked it up because I heard stereophonics' beautiful cover version of it <3

  • I couldn't see another band pulling this song off with as much emotion as Gordon does! He has something extremely special! God I love The Hip!

  • such a sad song

  • Reminds a boy of his time away from home, though I can never go back.

  • This song reminds me of the time I spent in Minaki, Ontario at 17! Looong time ago.

  • Classic Hip...love it all, but this song always has a special place in my heart..The Hip Rocks!!

  • Gordon shared this lullaby with my family after my brother passed , on mothers day , back in 93. ....It has always meant the World..

  • Justinmac, I totally and unequivocally concur. Well said.

  • A good reflection song, I play this whenever I get back home from a long trip abroad.

  • I spent a winter in Canda, two years ago.

    Heard this song then.

Nice. Too bad only Canadians know this band.

  • @from18tillidie not true. plenty of Hip fans down here in the U.S.

  • @from18tillidie It has been a farovite of mine for many, many years. I'm not Canadian. I have sent it to others hoping to turn them on to the Hip. this is an all time GREAT song! Perfect poetry, allusions, and melody. Also, so sad. Vocals fit perfectly. They ARE the group-!!!

  • canada rules people thats all there is to it!man i love livin in canada thanx hip keep goin strong

  • His tiny knotted heart.

    Nothing's changed.

    Great.

He won't travel on - no not in fiddler's green.

  • The Hip are the best of alltime. Simply perfect.

  • @JustinmacD i can't describe the sentiment...

  • Played this at my Grandmothers funeral. This tune will always have a special place in my heart. God bless the hip.

  • @rgarrioch I know what you mean, this very song was also played at my stepfather's funeral (sept. 14 1997) I will never forget :(

    Bless the hip indeed!!

  • @rgarrioch That hits ones hart thanks for sharing!

  • @clintony3000 dickweed

  • @rgarrioch just played this at my husband funeral...................hits my heart big time <3

  • @mcmels58 This very same song was my step father's favourite, he used to play it all the time on his guitar

it was also the very same song they played at his funeral back in '97 - to have a man like Tom (step father) willingly treat you like his own son (which he had 1 year prior) and then pass suddenly is heartbreaking :'( song still brings me & my mom to tears

    RIP Tom

  • @rgarrioch Speaking of "the hip" your grandmother was probably so old she broke hers then died.

  • @therenegademovie your a fucking retard

  • @therenegademovie yeah fuck you your life sucks and you know it. Dont even try to deny it. haha, were you jealous at the ammount of that dudes thumbs up? if so thats fucking pathetic. surf the fuck out of my gooch fag. hang ten

  • @therenegademovie man you are one miserable fuck, do the world a favor and kill yourself

  • @rgarrioch And God bless you too.

  • Yeah I know WTF is this, I am in the process of enlisting in the cavalry.

  • One of my favourite songs.

  • love a lot of the older hip stuff ... the stuff I remember growing up to ... I seen them this summer at Massey hall and it was mostly new stuff too much whinning and screeching for me ... I wish they would play more tunes like this in concert

  • such a beautiful song!!!

  • "Jesus is Gord" --- Anyone else remember that spraypainted on a cement highway divider just outside Hamilton?

  • is it still there

  • @BigAL0006 Don't think so. Haven't been able to spot it the few times I've been out there

  • @hellaweaknodoubt I tottally do, My aunt and unccle live out there and we drove from Winnipeg to see them when i was younger and i was like, "FVCK YEAH"

  • @starrbynite Thats dope. I've been out there a few times in the past year, don't think its there anymore.

  • one of my favourite Hip songs! Simple but awesome...

  • THANKS GORDY

  • Thank you Gord and the rest of ya,thank yo so very much

  • fiddlers green is where the dead cav scouts go on the trail to hell Halfway down the trail to Hell, In a shady meadow green Are the Souls of all dead troopers camped, Near a good old-time canteen. And this eternal resting place Is known as Fiddlers' Green. Marching past, straight through to Hell The Infantry are seen. Accompanied by the Engineers, Artillery and Marines, For none but the shades of Cavalrymen Dismount at Fiddlers' Green. this is not all but look up cav scout fiddlers green
  • @jim5brazil, thats very poetic.

  • I just enjoyed the peaceful feel of the song and enjoy the rockin' numbers as well, the lyrics are often abstract in my mind. Nice to get clarification on them via YT

  • The song is about a young boy that dies. I think the impetus for Gord Downey to write the song may have been linked to the death of his sister's first child. Fiddler's green is, I think, a mythical place that sailors go to when they die, but the young boy will go there, and be cared for by said sailors. The last verse especially tells the story of the boy.

  • the song was written wayyy before him

  • but good story

  • Throw*

  • Ive had four chances to see them in my hometown through the past four or five years, and ive never been able to dish out the money to see them. I hope one day in the near future before they turn old & gray I will be able to see them when they can still through entertaining concerts

  • This is litrerally one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my entire life. The Tragically Hip songs have one of the most soothing and peaceful sounds of the music industry ( that I have heard) Truly amazing <3

  • do anyone know what the song means ?

  • I never post comments, but wintjes03 cut henriggle some slack. He LIKES the band? Why dis him? Especially if he's from the USA. The Hip aren't widely known there like they are in Canada, So its easy for someone there to never hear of them.

  • Canada has some great ski resorts, especially Banff and Whistler.

  • Canada has "some great" everything.

  • The hip isnt near as known as they are in Canada.. Ask Americans about them. Most havent heard of them... So clearly, it is you who is the loser.. and most of all, an ignoramous

  • Great song. Some soul in that one. Just heard about this band tonight, and starting to really enjoy the songs. I think I'm gonna listen to this again.

  • You've been missing out on some great sound. But better late than never. Welcome. Your soul will forever love you for discovering The Hip.

  • quit staring outward!

    retreat into your imagination!

and there is always pleasure to be found!

what an amazing thing it is!

  • Looking forward to the 9:30 show in DC, hope they do this one.

  • know you!

    On Solitude!

    Alexander Pope!

  • can someone post the luxury off this album the hip are the best

  • one of tehy best songs, with the saddest meaning...

  • This song is fucking fantastic. *Shoots anyone who says otherwise. With a speargun. In the nuts*

  • he he he,well said, you got it right. This sound is musically and lyrically genius. A poet in his own time. Wicked

  • my all time fav.

  • What an amazing song...

  • Definitely one of the many great songs by the HIP.. sorry to anyone who has lost someone so young....

  • if it could be february fourteen it would be Riley's song thanx

  • this reminds me of my loves daughter who at the young age of three months her little heart stopped in my loves arms oh how we hurt

  • this song makes me want to sit in a cabin in the middle of nowhere with a cigarette and nothing but this song. Makes the world make sense lol

  • i had that moment last weekend at my secluded camp.. the sun was going down and my ipod speakers were blasting this while the fire crackled next to me... and as i sat there the world did seem to come together and make sense... it was beautiful

  • Lucky Lucky man you are camping is the closest i get to serenity this song makes me want to do it to the extreme. On some pad of flat land in the middle of the woods, fire crackling like you said with that song somehow playing, even just if i could play it on a guitar and sing it wow, how i wish
