After watching Southland, I'd say if she layed a hand on either of them the punch is justified. If she's just verbally assaulting you you can't hit her, but if she attacks you physically then a punch to the face is as good a technique as any to get her under control.

That looked a lot like a stunning technique. It didn't look like a shot to her jaw. It still wasn't the most often used first choice of actions, but it wasn't a punch or elbow to her jaw. An expert will review the video and determine for sure with additional information, medical information based on any injury she might have sustained. Don't be surprised if the use of force expert determines this was a stunning technique. If it was, it allows for handcuffing within a few seconds.

Its sickening with any kind of lawenforcement training at all this woman could have been cuffed. With there being two cops they could have easily just twisted her arm behind her back and cuffed her. If the police are allowed to use this kind of force on women, especially one with special needs that don't have a weapon in hand and are being non-combative then they will. Wow, I actually don't agree with you guys. 1.) there is no way that the cop could have known if she had "special needs", 2.) You have never been in a cituation like that, you don't know what it is like to be paid to take that kind of abuse, 3.) She was way past aceptable behavior when a cop talks to you, maybe puching her in the face was not the best choise, but within his rights as an officer, 4.) That looked a lot like a stunning technique. It didn't look like a shot to her jaw. It still wasn't the most often used first choice of actions, but it wasn't a punch or elbow to her jaw. An expert will review the video and determine for sure with additional information, medical information based on any injury she might have sustained. Don't be surprised if the use of force expert determines this was a stunning technique. If it was, it allows for handcuffing within a few seconds.

In canada the use of a trained elbow strike is considered excessive force, A punch in the face or a simple wrastling to the ground would have definitely sufficed. Its sickening with any kind of lawenforcement training at all this woman could have been cuffed. With there being two cops they could have easily just twisted her arm behind her back and cuffed her. If the police are allowed to use this kind of force on women, especially one with special needs that don't have a weapon in hand and are being non-combative then they will. The video doesn't show the entire confrontation, not even close. This is a long confrontation where multiple officers are having trouble controlling this suspect, which suggests that there may be drugs involved. Look how big this woman is. She could become a serious threat to bystanders (who called because they were afraid of her!). Moreover, bipolar disorder is not "Special needs" it means that they experience mania or depression, they do not have retardation or hallucinations.
