I think the entire cast seems mostly asexual. Even Sanji who is always chasing women is the type of character who seems like he wouldn't follow through even if he did attract someone. Nami is certainly aware of her sexuality but she seems to prefer using it as a means of power than for intimacy. I'm actually quite glad there isn't much overt romance in One Piece. I think media often overemphasizes the power and importance of romantic relationships in our lives. Hmm Boa Hancock makes me wonder.

Luffy isn't an Airhead, any time the situation calls for it he has an air of seriousness around him, compare the 'roaming' Luffy to the one that fought Arlong and Lucci.

Also Nami has shown the most feelings towards Luffy rather than any other male on board the Thousand Sunny.

Personally i think people dont like the couple cause they think Luffy looks weird

Well Movies are Non-Canon and Eichiro Oda isn't involved (he has only been involved in Choppers Remake and in writting his OWN movie the tenth) still the only time luffy gave his hat to anyone else (with out murderising them) was Vivi in Movie 8 (Non canon, it's not a retcon)
