While they weren't as successful or well known at this time I found early Sonic Youth to be much more interesting. Thanks for posting this lesser known classic.
Its not a useless detail that Steve Shelley doesn't drum on this song, but its a useless detail that his picture isn't from the Bad Moon Rising era. Who gives a fuck? I just came here to listen to the song, not to do some fact-checking.
ibelieveicansoar... i don't think it's useless, the details is what makes the music sound the way it does. Either way, Sonic Youth is one of the best!!
It's a shame that this person put a Daydream Nation-era press photo of the band, though. Steve Shelley was NOT the drummer on this song, it was Bob Bert.
Steve Shelley was probably eating Cheetos sitting on his sofa in Michigan when S.Y. was recording this song in NYC with Bob Bert, so I think you're the only one who thinks it's a "useless detail." B.B. had a much more tribal drum style, which made S.Y. sound quite different after he left and S.S. joined.
If you want to know how I know this is a D.N.-era pic, purchase D.N. and look at the photos in it.
Yeah, you're right, I'm the "only one" who cares. An average of 2 people per day have seen this clip since you posted it, yet you're acting like 10 million people have seen it. YouTube is a video site (stunning revelation, I know...), so someone who can't even be bothered to create a video for a song should not be surprised if people criticize a blatantly incorrect photo. Get over yourself and stop acting you did S.Y. some big favor by posting this.
One of the most mind-blowing songs ever made. If I could recommend one S.Y. song to someone who has never heard them, this would be it, or maybe "Hey Joni" or "Shadow Of A Doubt."
Thanks for putting this up!

Damn...
This album, "Evol", and "Confusion is Sex"
Three masterpieces in a row
"Sister" was decent, but after that it was a long, steady decline...

I hated Confusion Is Sex & Bad Moon Rising ......... those 2 albums sound like noisy garbage.
EVOL & Sister were amazing .

1) i don't care what Shelley was doing when SY was recording this song
2) you're the only one who has to dispute about this thing.. so evidently anybody else thinks this is a useless detail
3) i don't want to know how you know where this pic is from

Great album! One of the more experimental albums of Sonic Youth, haunting and psychedelic at the same time.
