I always wondered why he didn't become the Welder when he picks up the idol at the end. I never considered it had to be bare skin to the wood for it to happen.

@CharlesOberonn I'm going to go with author's creative license on this one, since the mask and apron are basically the TRADEMARK of John 'The Welder' Defoe. I don't think there would have been any way to visually show Somerset's possession by John Defoe without using his outfit, at least not without dragging the death (well, game over/bad ending) scene out longer than necessary.

@CharlesOberonn Whenever a person touches the idol with their bare skin they become the killer. Thats what happens when you take off the space suit.

the real reason is because you can't show he is possesed without the clothes.

@CharlesOberonn well actually he was the wielder from the begining, so is "cloth" like you said don't apply, that's why during this game he is getting vision of a wielder being next to every victim. It's him.

The Mask, Apron and Machete is just John DeFoe's manifestation because of the idol.

Cabadath has nothing to do with the Welder/7 Days as far as I know [ aside from the business in 6 Days. ]

When a person touches the idol with their bare hands, they get possessed by the killer of that game. Basically that's what happened there when they took off their spacesuit.
