  • man thats cool. maybe it would be more convincing if they wound that thing up!

  • Grigg3. Do you know anyone who has a nice detroit powered 4x4 truck forsale? ThX

  • What does it cost to build this setup?

  • Is this real

  • @dontstreetrace

Is what real? it's a running driving truck yes. But GM didn't build it that way and Detroit didn't build the DDEC 4-53T either, both are conversions

  • @kenfo0 I didn't think you really needed a reason to put a 2-stroke diesel in other than "I like the sound" :P I think the swap is super cool.

  • Didn't know Detroit made a DDEC 4-53T

  • @donnactrc

    They didn't..

  • Was that truck originally a diesel or a gas, I would love to get and old 70's or 80's Chevy and put a 4-53 in it.

  • @danraich It looks like it was a gas truck, the tach goes too high for a diesel.

  • This truck is awesome. And I'm a Ford truck guy

  • @Grigg3 werd!

  • Can they DDEC a 4-71? they write the programs I'm thinking?

  • Dude - are you sure? A 6v53 Turbo makes 223 horses. If your 453 is making 225, you really do have a one of a kind..... I really think you're off by about 50 horses... a 453T usually makes 175 horse.

  • how did we get the tachometer to work???

  • That's one extremely rare truck! 2-stroke Diesel engines like these are usually not offered in any full-size pickup nowadays...every Diesel engine, regardless of make, is 4-stroke.

  • @mrceleb2006 of course its rare, its home made

  • @treeclimberdave I see. Thanks for the info.

  • one very intersting pair.. new body and electronics.. and old tech 2 stroke.. nicely done and well.. points for the odd ball lol most people put a 453T or engines of sorts in old like 1976 GMC's and chevs and things of that nature.. but this is the 1st "newer" truck ive seen this done to

  • The electronics work involved here makes me ashamed at being able to build wiring harnesses for efi engines. Ive even wired up series 60's, but DAMN.

everything here is right. The gauges, the motor, the tranny. FLAWLESS!

  • @Grigg3 Do you know if the 4bt forum talks about putting a 5 or six speed manual behind a 4-53t? I was wanting to go with mechanical injector pump and without the electronics.

  • @fmagalhaes1521

It does, go have a look and see what you can learn

  • @Grigg3 Many kindest thanks!!! I am a member of the forum and now that I have seen a detroit in a truck with the "jakes", I wanted to set one up with a 5 or six speed manual in a similar fashion to the 6bts with their nv4500..

  • Wow, awesome sounding truck! I do prefer stick, but that allison auto dose make it sound like it belongs in there!

  • Can they produce codes for other ddec conversions?

  • Call and ask, They are in the diesel engine business, mostly two cycle Detroits, I bet they can help.

  • @Grigg3 What kind of mileage are you getting with this truck? thanks

  • My friend bought a 6v53 from Leid a while back. Were putting it in a K5 Blazer. Were doing the swap ourselves because they want a little too much money to install it for us. were having some trouble finding a bellhousing to connect the 6v53 to the New Process transmission

  • @TwoStrokePower653

Hello, I'm the guy with the DD rat rod and I had the same problem until I found Phoenix Casting & Machine . They have a website and probably have the adaptors right in stock to mount up your eng/trans. You might have to use their adaptors and some easy to get bellhousing. I used a small block ford bellhousing and clutch...worked just fine.

    Mhauer01

  • @mhauer01 I just found out today that Leid found a bellhousing and clutch to link the two together. The Timberjack log skidders in the 70s used a 353, 453 and some used the 6v53 connected to the same new process transmission. Its my friends truck and we should be going this weekend to get the stuff. i will post a vid when its finished but it wont be any time soon.

  • A view of he Engine would be nice. V.

  • Read the info about the video for links to pictures

  • i respect your choice in engine but wheres the six speed manual.

  • @chevroletTD

Again, it's not my truck.. they wanted an automatic in this one, and I think they've picked a good one for the job.

  • OSUOiler.....I friggin' tried EVERYTHING to get a C-7 in a 79 F-250 ranger Lariet...I even lifted the thing as much as the law would let me.....still couldn't get it in there....great job on this swap!!! I loe seeing something other than a 6BT swapped into a newer vehicle !!!! 5*'s!

  • Brilliant!

  • lied is a good shop an omg ur truck is awsome

  • this thing sounds like it's got a miniature 8V71T in it. :-)

  • This truck should be in the next Diesel Power Mag.

  • @dewmellon the 4-53 is only 2.1L engine- so it puts out less than 1/4 the power of the duramax- sounds cool though

  • @Jthumper

It's a two stroke so it puts out roughly twice the power for the displacement, It's about equivalent to a 4L 4 stroke diesel. Definately less power than the Duramax though.

  • @Jthumper Its about a 3.5L.

  • How did they do it.

  • That is sweet man. Electronics on a 2 stroke that rocks.

  • I've GOTTA SEE MORE!!!

  • Alright, this is just too incredibly freakin awesome. I looked at the webshots. We have absolutely got to see more video of this. This totally beats the hell out of my 76 GMC with 453-T. Computer controls on a 2 stroke detroit. I honestly thought I would NEVER see the day. That is just too cool. Although I like not having any electronics on mine, that is still just amazing!

  • @dasani110

Yours was the best, until this! This conversion rules! Of course, the cost of even a used Allison is HI$. Much less the DD"E"C setup. ö

  • Amazing!!! Now I just want to see a Cat in a F-250!

  • Oh My God . there is a god out there and he has blessed us with the awesome Detroit diesel 2 stroke with added computer technology.

This is the most awesome thing i have seen in a long time.

  • Excellent Job on the Electronic control conversion. i would just LOVE to see more of this done

  • Iam green with envy! this is how light duty trucks should be made in America!! V.

  • how does it do on the highway. it looks like it might be geared kinda low

  • Does just fine,

They did swap rear axle gears for faster ones, and if down the road decide that's still not fast enough the 6 speed (double overdrive) is an option.

  • Fuck a Duramax crap engine. This is what Chevy and GMC should be putting in their diesel trucks....some true, tried and tested and pure American. Not that jap crap Dura-Bull

  • Holy shit! That's AWESOME!

  • i want that truck

  • This is how it shoud be done. Very cool.

  • whaaaaattttt! griig, that i sawesome! I'm going to have to give these guys a call sometime... is that you driving? What did you think of it?

  • I was just along for the ride, and very impressed, they did a great job and it runs and drives well, and quite too, but still enough of the Detroit music to let you know what's under the hood.

  • did thay talk about the cost of this conversion and whether they'd do it again for a customer?

  • I didn't ask.

And I'm pretty sure they'd do it again for a genuinely interested customer, give them a call if you are.

  • Thats SO awesome!! Great work! More vids please. I bet you get some weird look from diesel guys who expect a Duramax noise from the GMC 2500, but here a Detroit Diesel!

  • amazing-smooth quite,225 +why have 8 ,4 is putting out all the powder you would ever need, what exactly is the electronics doing ?

  • @studeystudebaker50 Gives you better performance. governs how much fuel is "squirt" into the chambers. Optimizes the transmission's shift points for the most efficient gear at whatever throttle position. It also learns a driver's driving habits and optimizes itself for the most efficient running with said driver. it also acts as a self diagnostics tool and makes setting up and tuning the engine and transmission performance easier and better, There's more to it....somebody else will say them

  • How did they put electronic controls on it did they modify the system from a 6v53 or something?

  • Started with a 4-71TI DDEC system.

If you have a serial number for a 6V53TI DDEC (military only) that would be helpful?

  • Sorry I don't have the serial number. By the way how is the 48 Chevy coming along?

  • cool
