You know two of them are going to fight because i can tell the wings is up so that mean they are ready to fight with other until one of them lose or let them fight who is the winner of anyway. So pleas do not got mad at me i just checking ti remind of okay all right ah.
thank you for the explanation...because I like ducks. On the lake near by home, I watch ducks and at one point I adopted a little baby duck that were lost from his family.....but couples days later, I release him back to his family as soon I found it.....and they were all moving the head back and forth...ahahhahha so now I know.
Believe it or not, it's actually a sign of aggression. The flattening of the wings against their body, the mohawks, and especially the sweeping motion of the head back and forth against the ground means Mezoti was about to pounce on the other male. He wasn't happy the other male was on Mezotis territory.
what do you feed the wild ducks? I am trying to research what kinds of different things they like that are actually healthy. I really am touched by what you do.
I feed them dry cat food. A lot of people think that bread is OK to feed ducks, but they don't realize that bread has no nutritional value for ducks other than calories. The ideal food would be Mazuri Waterfowl Maintenance, which is what I feed my indoor pet ducks, but I can't afford a $35 bag every couple of days for the wild ducks. I do give them everything left over from my indoor ducks.
Yes bread is bad. I try to tell anyone that will listen it isn't good for ducks. I feed mine some no salted/non roasted peanuts and they are CRAZY about them. They hold great nutritional value and I get huge bags for pretty cheap and that is good because I go through a bag a day. People think I am crazy for spending what I do on the outdoor ducks but it's what I love doing. Thanks for the recommendation. I am going to look into the mazutri! Thanks for being great to all these animals in need.
I understand why you wont let your ducks fight but I enjoy watching ducks fight at my lake. I keep track of who wins and make a little ranking tree, it's fun, sort of like a MMA or boxing contendership. Champions usually have the honor of being closest to me when I feed them, so we become fast friends.
If you watched one of your favorite ducks die because it wasn't strong enough to fight back, or one lose an eye to another ducks claws, or end up with a broken wing, you would feel differently. Muscovy ducks DO fight to the death at times. If you saw one with half its face missing, you would feel differently. So maybe the winner has the "honor" of beinig closest to you. How is that fair to the smaller and weaker duck? My Mezoti is small for his size, and I would hate to see him hurt.
The ducks I enjoy are in my backyard, they are very special to me but I can't really call them pets, they belong to nature and fighting and dealing with death is part of every animals' lives. Nature isn't fair and can seem cruel. Furthermore, I've lived on a lake for over 20 years and I've never seen a duck die or get seriously injured from a fight, not saying it never happens, but in my experience it's rare. If a duck is overmatched it will flee, usually before they even engage each other.
I don't see how they avoid smacking their heads together! My guys / girls get in a circle of like 4-8 and do a whole long involved head bobbing ritual, each taking turns bobbing towards the center of the circle. I need to get a video but I broke my camera. ;-) Too funny!
I've started 5 years ago with a european starling. Now we have 9 starlings, 15 ducks and 18 chickens and counting. All are pets and living indoor pampered lives. We also volunteer for the wildlife sanctuary so have a lot of foster babies. The only duck in the video that is mine is Mezoti, the one I keep trying to hold back. The rest are wild ducks I feed daily and they come to my yard. Yes I know about pekins. Have a couple and one had broken legs and we lost her recently.
Actually no, it's a sign of aggression. That body language means they're trying to intimidate each other and neither was backing down so a fight was just around the corner.
With Muscovies you really can tell by their body language what they are saying. In the video both males fanned out their tails, flattened their wings against their backs, and you even see Mezoti sweeping his head and neck back and forth a couple of times right over the ground. That is the last step before he jumps and attacks the other duck.
When at home and I'm feeding him, he bobs his head and wags his tail to show happiness. When they vibrate, they are nervous.
No. She's not sitting on any fertile eggs, just ceramic ones. I don't want to breed any of them because there are tons of babies out there in the world who need rescuing, so why make more? If I let them hatch babies, then I wouldn't have enough room to take in the really needy ones. But Coco and 3 of my hens are perfectly happy sitting on fake eggs.
unlike most people i can tell the difference between boy and girl muscovys people call me crazy since i can tell da difference but, well, thats just me LOL
It really isn't all that hard to tell them apart. Size for one, males are much bigger. They have more red caruncles around the bill, eyes and some males have it on their heads and even necks.
Yeah, they were. LOL That's why you see me right on Mezotis butt and pulling him away a few times in the video. They did get into it once, and Mezoti won.
Yes, Mezoti attacked that other male, he really doesn't want to figh, he just comes over to eat. But I didn't let them keep fighting, I pulled Mezoti off of him once they had their wings around each other. Mezoti is sneaky, he went after that other male while my back was turned. LOL
Mezoti isn't really interested in ANY female ducks. He is a human imprinted duck, meaning I'M his love interest. He chases the females out too. And that female and the male Mezoti was chasing have 4 babies.
No this isn't a fight. But the ducks are negotiating, intimidating, and threatening each other. Often they can work things out like this. If not, the ducks attack each other, and that's a fight! Mezoti has a body guard so, no matter what, I think he'll be OK LOL.

They also viberate sometimes, you can feel it when you touch them. Its strange, do you know why they do that?

hey can you make a vid with coco-bean and mezoti togeather and maybe you can squeeze scooter in?
honerguard77 2 years ago
Coco-Beanie doesn't get along with Mezoti, and Scooter hates everyone. LOL So putting them all together would be a disaster.
