I feel lucky with my seeds now. I always seem to get hive-like interconnected masterworks with a sort of grand architecture, that overpower you with the scale and the intricate structure. This kind of reminds me of the tunnels that ring the sides--it's ok, but nowhere NEAR what the main show usually looks like. Maybe I'm just really lucky!

The first minecraft cave i found was a cavern, probably 10+ blocks high and well of=ver 40 blocks around. it had a lava pool and 2 water falls leading into it. And then a pit connecting it straight up to the surface. It is now my home xD it is awsome

The only problem I have with minecraft is the cave systems never end. I get lost so easily, and end up just getting bored. They should really integrate a mapping system. Something that automaps the caves you've uncovered. Then I wouldnt have to make 500000 signs, which end up failing anyways.

@NoName875 I found the answer. USe an arangement of 3 cobble stone. Make a two block high tower of cobblestone and and one more block to the left or right depending which way the exit is. at every junction put them in (you can place them in walls to make them less obstructive) and just turn the way it points until you reach home. Thats my new technique anyways

Best way to get out of a cave if you're lost; mine a crapload of cobblestone or dirt, then dig straight up. Bit of risk in case you hit lava or gravel, but it works well for me.

This is whut i do to explore caves. Bring a bunch of food, a reallly strong pick, a shovel, a sword, alot of torches, some blocks, and a sword. I walk around,g et everything, tehn i start building up straight breaking stones up and emerge the surface using my dropped stones. thats what i do.

you may have to put torches on mountains to get back to your home though, i ventured astray a little too long and became completely lost with a hoard of wealthy ores :/

i eventually made it back ;P

but yeah coal and iron are midway down to bedrock, just look for a glow that isn't from your torches and you'll have found lava
