If I had a child, and someone was threatening my child with Hell for eternity if my child did not worship him, I would at least HATE with every fiber in my body that person threatening my child, and try to find a way to kill that person. If I couldn't kill that person or have them arrested for their death threats against my child, I would at least stop worshipping him! I would HATE him. Why does your mother still worship someone she believes will eternally torture you and not hate him?
Same thing with your mother. How could your mother LIKE god if she believes in Hell? Just the mere fact that her religion believes in Hell should make her HATE god. I can understand why people believe in god, but for the life of me, I cannot and will not ever understand why they LIKE him!

indoctrination is the answer to all your questions. it's the indoctrination of an idea that has been there for a long time, logic does not matter when an idea has been indoctrinated so deep in your brain. Virus of the mind is a great book explaining why the "meme" of religion can be so powerful.

@vision4DaY Thank you for your quick response. I've always been bothered by people believing in a Hell, and liking the monster that would create it. As a little kid in Sunday School, even though my mother taught us there was no Hell so we wouldn't worry, I still HATED god, I never liked him. I hated him because I felt like he didn't do enough to help people, and let people suffer, Hell or no Hell. So when you add Hell to the mix, it's so hard for me to understand believers' admiration for him.
believing in god is a default in this town. so it is assumed that someone believes in god unless the person says they don't. so it being a default and me not saying anything i was not honest. i could have mention it, oh by the way i don't beleive in god, but i didn't. and i was confession to her a truth i hold from her and let her decide if she still wanted to be with me after i told her a truth that i should have mention at the beginning of the relationship.

I would HATE god if I was a believer. And I would HATE jesus. I would HATE them for sending even one person to Hell, even if I did not know that person. So I cannot understand how someone can love you or me (I'm also an Atheist) and not be so disgusted by their god for sending good people like us to Hell. Your girlfriend should worry about YOU breaking up with her, NOT the other way around. You should ask her why she still "likes" god if her religion believes you will go to Hell.

i assure you that i don't believe in god and i can not reject something that i don't believe in. It is like if i told you that you chose to reject santa clause. as you can see you can't reject something you don't believe. my hope for tomorrow is that one day i will dye so make the most out of tomorrow, spend time with the friends and family, and tell people that i love that i love them. fight death to the end is also something that comes from it.

@vision4DaY well to believe in God and allowing his Spirit to live in you is not about family, you make your own choices, everyman has to pay for his choices, he cant blame family or friends. God punishes according to your works, salvation is free to all, and the Bible is not the only way to know God, if you dont have access to it, its the Spirit of God that is already in you that will teach you Gods ways, that is why i say you choose to reject God. Bible is on the internet not that hard now.
ok ok ok, i see what you are saying, you don't need to accept salvation because "salvation is free to all" so you are judge by your works "God punishes according to your works". you don't need the bible because you are guided by the spirit. so the spirit can guide some to islam, others to budism, and so forth.

i assure you that i don't believe in god and i can not reject something that i don't believe in.
