Albums, 8 Tracks, Cassette Tape, Cd's, MP3's now Youtube. 42 yrs. of The Greatest, Carlos Santana have been the best times of my life. Now kids thats 42 yrs. who will be your Santana?
Man this song showed alot of what Carlos was all about. Taking a song and giving it a whole new soul, you know making come to life. Well he did it 1978 seems like yesterday "Inner Secrets" was a underated album.
@grandpasnow I listened to "Inner Secrets" until the record was so worn out the needle came out on the other side :-) Those were the times when we still had to flip records. For the younger readers here, I am sure there is a YouTube video showing what I mean.
I don't like how they swing it on the choruses, and the piano player is taking way too many liberties with his parts. Thank God Carlos plays it true to the record. My allt-ime favorite Santana song,

Great version of a killer song. I'm impressed by the vocals - wouldn't have thought anyone could pull off the high-energy stuff that Winwood did. And Carlos is amazing as always - as is the bass player in the intro.
Great, great Buddy Holly song that has been covered in many genres (Nanci Griffith did a lovely country-tinged version), but you can't beat the original by Buddy & the Crickets.
Buddy Holly was the originator of this song. Blind Faith covered it on record (a ripping arrangement of a song not many knew at the time). Santana covered it again afterwards. The guitar hook was from the Blind Faith version, so it is kind of a cover of a cover.
If any of you haven't checked out Buddy Holly yet, do it. Thanks to the Brits that he wasn't totally forgotten in this country. His songs have been covered by the Beatles, the Stones, Blondie, the Dead, to name a few.
Buddy Holly did this before Blind Faith I think. Of course, Buddy Holly recorded this song before his plane collided w/ a UFO in 1958 over Iowa, killing him and Big Bopper and Paul McCartney.
@cutis1000 Whoa let's be easy, this is live and if you're comparing it to the studio cut perhaps you should take a listen to the live Blind Faith version those boys were no slouch
El intro se llama "Marathon",del disco con el mismo nombre.Yo tengo el dvd de este concierto, esta bueno.Me parece que este concierto tuvo lugar en Australia.
Once the guitarrist used to be called as Santana. In present days, his name is Tonhão, due a lot of shit music he has recorded in these times. What shame!
Who is playing the second guitar? You see him towards the end holding a Les Paul, right? I love the sound of Santana & the second guitar playing in unison for the hook or riff or whatever you want to call it.
The 1969 version by Blind Faith made this old Buddy Holly tune famous, with Stevie Winwood on piano and Eric Clapton on guitar. This cover is a more rocking version of the song, and has two guitars and a rare backup by Carlos. His lead guitar is always unique.
it's a nice version; but the one of Blind Faith is the best ever. I remember: 15 years old, running around in a new world with lots of expectations, singing this song loud and clear (as far as that was possible..)
Hendrix is better than Santana.
