  • Hey, I noticed you mentioned that you're from Canada in another video, and you also said OHIP, so i assume you're from Ontario. I am also from Ontario (GTA to be specific) and I am planning to go through this procedure as well. If you're from Ontario, can you give me info on your surgeon because I only know of one at the moment.

  • Hi visualvision, I will probably have to get a jaw surgery and was wondering if you could recommend somebody for the initial consult?

  • Your videos are great:) I'm 17,from england & it's been 4 weeks since my op on both jaws. I've had my braces for 3 years now & knew before I got them on that I would need surgery, so I know how you feel waiting around :P. The first week is the toughest but don't let it get to you cause as soon as it passes every day gets 100x better & is practically pain free!:) I wish you all the best and hope you like the result :)

  • Hey so looks like your getting closer. I'm 7 months post op now from Lefort 1 with BSSO and genioplasty. I can't stress more that you should be careful about the GENIOPLASTY. Mine turned out a lot more prominent than I thought it would. Which is okay for a guy but be careful as a female because you don't want too much!!! I will upload an update soon!

  • @Boarder780 hey i remember your videos. Your result looked really good from what I saw. Through the digital imaging my surgeon did the genioplasty looked pretty good but it also looked like the lower portion of my face was shorter. I'll make sure to address the fact that I don't want my chin to be too prominent, although at the moment my chin is a pretty sad excuse for a chin.

  • @visualvision Lol. My chin was pretty sad too - which really sucks for a dude. My new chisiled jaw commands respect now!!! J.K. My case is so similar to yours is scary (even the TMJ). I'm excited for your result, its such a long process.

  • @Boarder780 lolol haha I love that "commands respect"

Omg this process is never ending. when did it start for you? when do you get your braces off? Did the surgery help with the TMJ?

  • @visualvision I started in Oct 2010, surgery was April 2011 and got braces off in Sept 2011. So actually pretty quick turnaround for me. It helped a bit with TMJ but I am still considering a night guard because I grind. Your in Toronto right? Will defs need to celebrate once you get yours! lol just with smoothies though :)

  • @Boarder780 wow thats so fast, not even a year in total. I'm so jealous! I'll have my braces for a year when I have the surgery and then at least half a year after. They don't really give me straight answers when i ask how long in total, they sort of avoid that question :(

haha yes smoothies! thats been my diet for the past 8 months and will probably continue to be for a long time. I do live in Toronto, I recall you were saying you lived west of Toronto?

  • @visualvision I got super lucky with timing. Yep I am in the west end out in Burlington and had my surgery at Credit Valley in Mississauga. Good memory on ya! .... But yeah I'm always in and out Toronto for shopping, clubbing etc.

PS - go easy on the smoothies .. you'll have plenty post op! lol

  • What's up with the tooth filing? My ortho said I would probably have this done next time in between my bottom teeth (which already look good). I'm wearing rubber bands to pull my lowers back but I don't know if tooth filing is something I want to do considering my teeth are already pretty small. Anyways hope you make it to surgery.

  • @thielenm yeah the filing was a total surprise. I think it was to get the teeth even so they could fit side by side better. One of my front teeth was a little longer too so I think it was also cosmetic. They're always surprising me with more stuff they have to fix, now i just go with it. I do have pretty big teeth though so I was like yeah do what you want. Check with your ortho to make sure it's actually beneficial for you

  • hey i noticed you have the clear brace brackets! i have to get braces on in two weeks to start my whole jaw surgery process and i believe they are going to give me the choice between the metal brackets or the clear ones. do you recommend the clear ones? does food every stain them? thanks!

  • @mfriel31 I've had both metal and clear and they both have their ups and downs. I feel like the clear braces are a little more rough on the gums, they seem to feel larger so I guess this is what causes them to irritate your gums more. The do look nicer, thats for sure. The brackets themselves haven't stained from my experience but the elastics do. I use silver elastics instead of clear to help minimize staining, I highly suggest this.

The clear ones did cost more as well.

  • @visualvision thanks so much for all the feedback! very helpful!

  • Have you ever had any cavities while in braces? Or what is it like having a dental cleaning w braces?

  • @Bigkdawg13 I don't think I've had a cavity since childhood. I have gone for cleanings with braces and I had teeth removed while in braces and its all the same pretty much. the dentist will know how to work around the braces.

  • hahahahaha "ice cream you are my friend"

  • you are sooo cute! love the vids :P

  • will the corrective jaw surgery fix your tmj?

  • Hey. How is going to be your surgery? I am following in your blog since a few months ago. I had the first surgery in august (SARPE) and now i'm in the pre-surgery braces process to the second and most important. I'm following and best luck from Argentina.-

  • Hey ..

Just got my braces ... can't believe im almost 30 with braces .. makes me feel like a high-schooler.. anyway, the feeling is weird.. but the good thing is that i will only need them for 10 months .. after that i will be braces free .. with a great smile for the rest of my life :)

I am going to skip the surgery, as my overbite is not medically critical...

  • @ahmedvienna wow 10 months will go by so fast. I had braces when I was younger and I can't even recall having them on because the time goes by so fast. almost 30 is as good as any age. I'm 25 and I never thought i'd be in braces as an adult but it seems more common now. Hope everything goes smooth for you :)

  • Okie :) thanks x

  • Hey I'm just wondering and please don't take offence as you're really pretty. But I have this problem : whenever I meet someone (a guy) the moment I tell them I'm having this op (the same one as you) it's like it scares them off. Do you ever have this problem and how do you deal with it if you do? Xx

  • @carmellopez I'm going to inbox you a reply

  • i can totallly relate to not knowing when your surgery is because they seriously took forever to finally tell me! but honestly i kept bugging my orthodontists and then they finally told the surgeon that i was ready! i know waiting sucks, but it'll be so worth it! however, recovery time sucks, i won't lie to you. but it definitely is worth it. i love my smile more and more each day!

  • @steenbeanxo Your result is soooooo awesome!! honestly hearing that from you is so motivating. This process really is a test of patience. How long were you in braces before jaw surgery?

  • @visualvision thankss! and it really is, but i promise you its worth it! and i had my braces on for about 2 1/2 years before my surgery...but that's because my teeth were SO messed up lol! yours already look super straight. and i'm not even sure when i'm getting mine off, it'll be 3 years next month...but i mean, once you go through a procedure like this, braces are like nothing. and honestly, i don't really notice them anymore.. :p

  • @steenbeanxo wow thats such a long time in braces. I did have braces in the past so maybe if i add up all the time i've been in braces it makes sense. My bite relapsed after the braces 10 years ago, or maybe my jaw grew but I notice when you have braces it feels like forever and once they're off its like a bad memory you never think about lol

  • @visualvision Haha yeah my mouth was a bit messed up :p and yeah i had the same problem...i had braces before in my life, but then when i hit puberty my jaw grew faster than the rest of my body! lol. so yeah, braces and surgery... :p

  • i'm having the surgery this friday, yay! =) finally!

i put my braces on since February and i'm finally getting it all done.

Thank you for posting videos, you really helped me through the process =)

  • @SqueezeThisPlease thats so awesome!! congrats on almost being there. You have to let me know how it goes. Sounds like we have a similar timeline in braces prior to surgery, are you having both jaws done?

  • @visualvision no, they're only moving my lower jaw, correct my cross bite and they're cutting my tongue's fraenum to correct my speech. what i'm most scared of is the recovery, my face is going to be really swollen next week.

Sure! when i have the surgery i'll tell you all about it =)

  • @SqueezeThisPlease oh how does the tongue surgery work? I have a lisp and I'm hoping the jaw surgery and speech therapy help resolve it.

  • @visualvision my surgeon is going to cut frenulum because it's really short, like if i open my mouth my tongue can't touch the top of the mouth, so that disables my speech a bit (plus i'm wearing lingual braces). He said the procedure is literally just cutting it off and putting stitches in. Can't wait to see how that feels lol.

  • Hellloo!! How do you keep your TEETH so white, I got my braces on over a week ago and Im struggling... Details ! :) Thanks! I just had my oral surgeon consult last week as well and I feel you- we want this to speed up & be done so we can get on with our lives!

  • @smashingpumpkin3 I know what you mean, its so hard to keep your teeth white with braces. I use a waterpik with a mix of mouthwash and water to clean the braces after brushing, i also floss a lot more now. I still use a whitening toothpaste and mouthwash which helps.

I hear you, i cant wait for this to be over so i can get back to my life, i miss not having braces lol
