For example, Ohio Revised Code says any emergency vehicle may go as far above the speed as needed with their lights and sirens engaged so long as they are using due regard for the public. If they weren't allowed to speed at all how would they be allowed to pursue fleeing suspects? The cop doesn't have a sign on saying pass me and is not inducing the person to speed.

The amount of troopers (nazis) you have patrolling highways in NJ....they pull you over for shit like having taillights that aren't red enough, license plates that are too high or too low, having air bubbles under your temp tags, having a spoiler (obstruction of view), brake lights that aren't "brighter" enough than drive lights, drive lights that are too bright, air fresheners on your RV mirror, etc etc. I know, because Ive been pulled over for all of those in NJ

No one is above the law including the trooper who also was violating the work zone speed limit. It would be difficult to explain the ticket to the judge and how it came to be, and why the trooper was also speeding.
Complete abuse of the law right there. 90% of cars have a 10% variant on their speedometer. So the driver could have actually have been driving under the speed limit according to their speedometer. Personally i would refuse the cops contract of engagement and would have been perfectly with in my rights to do so! Learn your rights people and don't be bullied, bloody pigs...
@envoking That doesn't really apply to cars these days unless modified with different gear ratios, or tires with a different size outer diameter, they're usually very accurate. Granted I've only had 3 vehicles so far in my 7 year driving experience. In two of them, a 94 Camaro (sold) and my currently owned 04 Dakota, the speedometers in them are dead accurate! The one that wasen't was a 92 Ranger. Had a mechanical speedo that is notorious for having the needle swing a lot, and reads 5mph fast.

it's all simple, the lowest indicated speed on speed signs should always be obeyed, you don't know why they are still there, second, if a cop pulls a stunt like that, because you only drove 15 miles per hour too fast, then don't drive to fast, it's all very simple, i'm a firefighter in real life, i have seen what can happen to people ignoring speed limits, even with 50mph you cant see what's on the other side of those pylons.

I determined he was doing just over 60 mph, so the driver getting pulled over could only have been going a few mph above that.
I can't count how many times I have passed coppers pulling this stunt. Everybody panics, can't get the nerve to pass them even when they are being dicks by going under the speed limit. There is such a thing as keeping up with the flow of traffic and those that go noticeably under(even cops) or over that speed are dangerous to everyone else on the road.
I live in Italy, here u can pass police without problem, (they are looking for real delinquents, not for for people doing just a little pass) and in Germany there are a lot of freeway without speed limit (they are very lucky).
My speed in the freeway is at least 80, with peak of 90 Miles per hour.

not sure what to make of this. I see old speed limit signs that were there for construction being left their for months after construction was done. So you have two different speed limit signs applying to the same area with no construction. Never have i seen anybody get pulled for speeding in those zones.

Doesn't matter what is posted, if the cop is doing 10 miles over the speed limit, and you pass him you can get a ticket, there is nothing he can do if you stay behind him regardless of how fast he is going, you are keeping up with the flow (in this case the cop is the flow).
i would use this video in court. If cop was going 60 and it was marked 50 then this proves the cop lacks a good judgement of obeying laws nor does he a good judgement in pacing. I hate it when folks freak out when they see a police car on the highway, I pass them all the time, if your just tooling a long and not doing anything stupid they don't mess with you, start jamming on the brakes and acting silly and you'll get pulled over. I used to drive 100 miles a day for work, used to get off the same time every night, and I'd do 85mph on the highway, practically no cars, every night the CHP used drive by, turn on their interior light, give a wave and cruise on by.
In Texas, we always pass cops... It seems like (in the DFW area at least), as long as you're on the interstate and not doing anything stupid or excessively speeding, they don't screw with you.

@maarc3D really though typically if the trooper is trying to hold down the speed on a section of road they will be in the speed lane, this one was not so assuming that passing is ok would be logical. I've passed troopers doing 85 in a 65 many times with nothing like this happening.

As far as I'm concerned, entering another lane without using your signal is much worse than doing 15-20 mph over the limit on the freeway.

Good thing I don't see sapd use that tactic here in town. I would understand it if that driver would've zipped right by him but no. Driver slowly and safely passed him. I do that all the time. I passed the cop safely and slowly and so far no ticket. Something I do see here and I'm still amazed by it is all of the cars that follow an sapd squat car on the highway. Seems to me that drivers are afraid of getting a ticket rather than making a better flow of traffic and they end up making it a bigge

That's odd, being pulled over for going a few over ? Maybe there wasn't a flow of traffic. Down in Texas , speed limit is 60. Traffic is always 70+. Hell, I pass cops all the time. Cant do anything if you're with traffic.

Doesn't matter what is posted, if the cop is doing 10 miles over the speed limit, and you pass him you can get a ticket, there is nothing he can do if you stay behind him regardless of how fast he is going, you are keeping up with the flow (in this case the cop is the flow).

i would use this video in court. If cop was going 60 and it was marked 50 then this proves the cop lacks a good judgement of obeying laws nor does he a good judgement in pacing. I got a case dismissed when a cop paced me and wrote me a ticket for an illegal lane change. but when the video showed that the lane change was bullshit i argued this cop has a shity judgement and therefore i cannot count on his pacing judgment.

I hate it when folks freak out when they see a police car on the highway, I pass them all the time, if your just tooling a long and not doing anything stupid they don't mess with you, start jamming on the brakes and acting silly and you'll get pulled over. I used to drive 100 miles a day for work, used to get off the same time every night, and I'd do 85mph on the highway, practically no cars, every night the CHP used drive by, turn on their interior light, give a wave and cruise on by.

@maarc3D really though typically if the trooper is trying to hold down the speed on a section of road they will be in the speed lane, this one was not so assuming that passing is ok would be logical. I've passed troopers doing 85 in a 65 many times with nothing like this happening.

As far as I'm concerned, entering another lane without using your signal is much worse than doing 15-20 mph over the limit on the freeway.
I have NEVER, in my entire LIFE, seen a cop use his fucking signal in legal advance of a lane change.
The double-standard makes me sick and it's why I quickly leave cops behind on my superbike. I will not pull over to be ticketed by some asshole who thinks he has more rights and privileges than I do just because he has a badge.
