It seems that Tuccille is just a critic. Someone who tries to gain acclaim by commenting on the work of others...much like Ellsworth Toohey or Peter Keating. Maybe there is more to Tuccille, but in this video he comes across as someone without much supporting his arguments. Maybe that was ReasonTV's reason.
Who is this douche bag and what makes him such an expert. I don't think he understands anarcho-capatalism in the slightest. His argument with the drainage pipe is We Todd Ed. Comparing Rand to the Taliban.....HOW? What kind of drugs do you have to take to end up with this mind?
I find his complete lack to understand Anarcho Capitalism and its legal philosophy (the Rule of Law, by market selection of impartial law, not government selection of partial law) particularly galling. It's easy to criticise if you don't understand. It's purely religious to want the State, an initiation of violence and coercion, a reigning peace gained by victory in tribal warfare not by rule of law, and a destroyer of peace between Statist jurisdictions, to legislate.
Umm, if one perceives a violation of ones property rights or ones rights in general one is required to have it adjudicated in the society we have today. Worse, even if one is arguing that the state is responsible for the violations one has to settle with judges representing the state deciding the case.
I don't agree with most of what this man said. How would you sue in a "Rothbardian" society? Sue in what government? I like Stefan Molyneux's concept of the DRO system as a means of establishing order in an free market anarchic society. Check out the Stefbot channel. I do not believe that Rand was insane in the slightest. She advocated the rights of the individual over the collective. Although I do not understand her min-archist views, she stated her philosophical groundings very well.
OK - maybe that was a little harsh as he starts to redeem himself later in this monologue. But, he is really weird with his words of Ayn Rand. I am not a fan of hers, but calling her "loony" is worse than me calling this guy a "moron"
No offense, but I have to disagree with this man. Rand's philosophy is too narrow and closed and Friedman and the Chicago school have become footnotes AND were only concerned with economics. Rothbard in my opinion was the only one who had system that is open enough for expansion and correction and also does'nt see society merely being driven by economics, but instead shows that it is very multi-dimensional. In other words Rothbard is the man.
Galt's Gulch is not a good place...Murry Rothbard's society would be terrible..Freidman's model has a chance, and 2008 might be the LP's big movment...does this guy have any clue what he's talking about?
And what does having a mustache have do with living in GG?
Who does this loser think he is? He clearly has never carefully read either Rand or Rothbard. He's just repeating the same tired old myths and fallacies that the half-wits and sycophants of the libertarian movement have tossed around for years. It sounds like this guy hasn't had a new thought since 1972.
Jerome Tuccile = Statist moron. Perfect for the tReason/Stato crowd. Milton Friedman was a socialist who favored a "negative income tax" and helped set up the tax withholding system.
You do not have to simply sue. Rothbard has made it clear you can employ vigilante justice as long as you are willing to face the consequences of taking retribution on the wrong person. He is pissed because Rothbard called out his type, a conservative in disguise. Fuck this guy and his lying ass.
I can stand libertarians because they at least believe gov't should still exist, but anarchists are nutjobs, esp. anarcho-capitalists. Who's gonna enforce the rules if there's no gov't or leaders?? Anarchism is anti-intellectual bullshit. Anarchism is the easiest position in politics to take because it says "Anything goes", just like some rebellious teenager would say. Luckily, most people grow up and get out of that anti-gov't phase. Everyone is an anarchist at heart, after all.
Anarchism is like Marxism: It sounds good in theory but would never work. It's just not practical. So why bother saying you're an anarchist and bitching about the state all day long? You're never gonna have a stateless situation, so give up. Become a libertarian, at least.
What is this guy talking about? No beards or moustaches? Has this guy even read Rand? As for her dislike of homosexuality, has everyone forgotten that in that era, the psychological establishment promoted it as a psychological disorder? At the time she was probably going off the opinion of the scientific community. Now that we understand that it's more genetic than psychological, that she would have modified her stance accordingly. Read Valiant's book. The Brandens can't be taken at face value
The pyschological establishment is as prone to politics as the rest of society. Whether they claim homosexuality is a psychological disorder or a genetic consequence, proves nothing. Psychology as it is practiced today, is barely a science. I at one time thought that the psychological flaws of gay people was due to societies repression and persecution, I now feel their flaws are the cause of their homosexuality. When did they become the litmus test for philosophical truth?
"My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute."
He's not much of a thinker. Atheism is reason. Being rational is loony?- give me a break. Has he had one rational original idea published or just critiques those who have. A sad man.
The personality cult was not of her making, but of some misguided followers. She has been quoted as emphatically stating that she didn't want "followers". She wanted people to think.
That confused me too. I know Ayn Rand (outside of the book) made some negative comments about homosexuality, but I don't recall ever hearing anything about moustaches/beards from Ayn Rand or any Objectivist.
Honestly, I don't think this guy knows what he is talking about.
zombiechaddy & XOmniverse, the thing about mustaches is mentioned in Barbara Branden's biography, *The Passion of Ayn Rand*. Ms. Branden says that Rand sort of distrusted mustached men, as if the mustache were hiding something (because they had something to hide). Rand knew that that was a silly reason to distrust people, so she didn't publicly speak about it.
James Valliant's *Passion of Ayn Rand's Critics* is an interesting rebuttal to some claims in the Brandens' memoirs.
Just let them talk... When left alone, Leftists always make themselves look stupid without anyone's help...

Does anybody here believe him when he says a "Rothbardian" told him that "people who can't pay their bills will be enslaved?"
Anybody? This guy's not only a statist, but he's clearly a liar as well.

No, atheism is logical, not reasonable. A
personal diety may not be logical or reasonable, but no evidence of a 'prime
mover', is more a product of a closed egoist
mind, that is not in search of truth.
Spirituality & religion are not the same thing. The 'laws' of religion are neither
logical or reasonable. But a complex universe
that is created by 'chance' is not reasonable.
I believe in atoms although I never saw one.
And I also believe in dinosaurs, same reason.
