  • Hello, I'm looking for a video of a song in Gaelic, it has a woman on the fiddle, another one singing in a canor in a creek, an old man with long hair and a young one who dissapears... ?

    Any ideas ?

  • fav song when i was 6

  • I opened for him at a concert and I got to meet him! He is amazing!! :)

  • 28 people have fallen asleep.

  • Dannsa, ruidhle, ruidhle bhoidheach.

    Ruidhle bhoidheach, dannsa direach. X2

Ciamar a ni mi 'n dannsa direach?

Ciamar a ni mi 'n ruidhle bhoidheach?

Ciamar a ni mi 'n dannsa direach?

Dh'fhalbh am prion' a bonn mo chota.

The rest I can't quite make out.

It's about a girl at a traditional Scottish dance (ceilidh) who is unsure as to whether or not she can go on. She's danced and danced but now she's afraid she looks "untidy" because she's shaken loose a broach pin from her coat. The poor lass!

  • @WaldosComputer Thanks for the lyrics ! What language is that ?

  • @CrYsT4LCl4wS

The language is "Gaidhlig" or Scot's Gaelic.

  • @WaldosComputer

Cape Breton actually has it's own Gaelic dialiect, it's very similar to Scottish though.

The nest of the grouse Is in the black mill, in the black mill; The nest of the grouse Is in the black mill since the summer time

  • funny you notice the hip hop element- it won hip hop recording in 1995 at ecma much agisnt may likling as i thougt real hip hop tunes should win- and it caused a backlash and an envigorated interest in real hip hop inthe years follwing down east- my new record will have some more hip hop styl e tunes- watch for it this march

    ashley

  • For anyone who wants a quick and dirty translation:

dance, the pin fell out of my coat, I won't feel bad if the fiddler comes tonight. the black mill is turning and we'll go dancing. repeat.

  • what i love about this is that it's clearly hip hop, and hip hop of a style that diddn't yet exist when this was made.

  • sorry to let you down but i never tried herion and wouldnt recomend that anyone else did either:)

    ashley

  • saw him live for free at the burlington sound of music festival this summer, i was the one that got the encore going freaking amazing

  • KashiwaDaisuke Dethklok are melodic death metal, and they are rather good. If they were in a different language and I had no idea that it was comedy, I'd just think they were brutal and awesome. Instead, they're brutal, awesome, and hilarious. And Ashley MacIsaac kicks ass

  • I will not be sad when the fiddler arrives tonight ! I think is the translation of the gaelic

  • i used to know this on the pipes!!!

  • Good dance & fiddle tune! Very Irish - is that Gaelic dialogue I heard? Time for a Guinness!!

  • @drrontucker It's Scots Gaelic. Close enough to warrant a Guinness!

  • @cxcdn Fuck yes! I shall drink to that.

  • IN. CRED. A. BLE. love it.

  • Two careers that went nowhere.

  • Mry Jan Lamond is hopeless! Utterly talentless1

  • Mry Jan Lamond is hopeless!

  • Nice like it!

  • Ashley MacIsaac is the very definition of tragic failure! Let's throw it all away! It has been done! Consider it thrown in the trash and half brain dead!

  • I love having other dudes pee on me and I love Canadio-Scots music!

  • Ashley MacIsaac...In 2003 he told an interviewer for the Montreal Mirror that he loves to have men urinate on him...He must be one of those really honest and bold people XD

  • Sad thing is I showed ALLL my friends who love music this song and they thought it was LAME!!!!!!!! Well guess its more for us to love .............

  • @MrSenorfuego1 Well at least YOU have taste.

  • damn I love hearing fiddle with a beat behind it!

  • disturbed rocks but oh my god lord baby jessus

  • Ah, man...that rhythm just gets you. I don't normally like songs like this. (I'm more of a Disturbed/Linkin Park/Slipknot/Death Metal fan) But just hearing this music is enough to...wow...just wow.

  • Disturbed? Linkin Park? Slipknot?

How about no. Also, I'd be interested to hear some of those death metal bands you listen to.

  • @KashiwaDaisuke Well there's Dethklok (That is a real band, you know.)

  • Dethklok are NOT death metal.

  • I love this man and his music!

  • lol

  • Does anyone know the lyrics in english?

  • I'm digging that Micmac tat.

  • Wow I haven't heard this song in so long. It was one of my favourites when I was a little girl, and man, I still love it!

  • @psychospores Where are you from?? I was in a "head" shop one day and they were playing the CD "Celtic Moods" I have been in love with that CD and Celtic music ever since. Never heard it before then. I love, love, love it! It was about 10 years ago that I heard this type of music. You grew up with it?? I envy you. I grew up on Bluegrass which I still love, but it was so great to be introduced to this beautiful, sometimes, "haunting" sound. Love it...

  • @psychospores I did hear it years ago,and i still love to listen to it :) It's definitely a classic!

  • Ah yes. Proving that Gaels everywhere can be suave. Or at least we can try . . .

  • @NeskaBean Gaelic kicks ass.

  • strange as it is i break 2 this tune lol love it it just brings out all my smoothness

  • He is pretty great! Although, I still think Richard Wood is a better fiddle player. Also, by far, a better showman live. He never had to do outrageous stuff to make a name for himself.

  • Why can't I find his video for "Brenda Stubbert" anymore?

  • Agreed!

  • An outstanding song

  • I do enjoy this song. I had completly forgotten about it until watching Ashley on Life and Times a few weeks ago.

  • yup.. its agreed. 439592 is an idiot... and this song is awesome

  • 439592-

i can only fiugre it this way from yuor comment- either the first sow was fine and the second was too"sexual"so I wasn't at least"half bad"or you thoguht the first was and you stilltook your daughter back a second time- either way- your point of saying "suckerville"is where i come from- really doesn't say anythnig about my home- but it says alot about you

    whatev

  • hi cousin:)

  • ashley is my 2nd cousin

  • It's in my will that they play this song at my funeral, before they set the viking ship on fire

  • @TheCMoneyPlaya

shiiiit, that will be one hellova funeral!

  • @TheCMoneyPlaya Hell Ya!

  • @TheCMoneyPlaya umm, can I come to your funeral??

  • @TheCMoneyPlaya So true!!!!!!!!

  • @TheCMoneyPlaya my dad asked his sons to promise to do the same funeral rights. Us brothers want the same done for us, and the boat must be, just like in my dads case, made by family OWNLY. A beautiful way to be let go :) :) :)

  • I love this song. Ashley is amazing! Mary Jane Lamond is incredible. One of my favorite songs of all times!

  • good year 1995. I had to think back to that year to find this song.

  • All that I can remember about that year is my french teacher attempting to drill into my class how to say 1995 in french. It didn't turn out too well, hehe.

  • @ianedencrow yeh i immediately remember which year this album came out too - it was such a great time for music!! and CANADIAN music as well! lol... this song totally brings me back to such a great era :)

  • Dance, reel, a bonny reel .A bonny reel, a tidy dance Dance, reel, a bonny reel. A bonny reel, a tidy dance How can I make a tidy dance How can I dance a bonny reel How can I make a tidy dance The pin went from the hem of my coat Oh I won't be sad When the fiddler, the fiddler comes tonight The nest of the grouse In the black mill, in the black mill since the summer time The black mill is moving around And we expect to go dancing Oh I won't be sad When the fiddler, the fiddler comes tonight

  • the video concept was by a guy named havier from mexico- i don't know the meaning behind it all- also ther isno video for what an idiot he is- feel free tomake one

  • anyone know if there is a vid for "what an idiot he is"??

    tia :-)

  • great song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thats a good song

  • i don't quite understand the symbolism behind the little boy bathing the grown woman

  • think about it more

  • well... i think the song's about a mother who lost her child?

maybe she looked to the child for unmet needs?

    ::shrugs::

  • when I was a little boy I used to wish that I could have a bath with the hot older neighbor lady maybe it stands for that who knows

  • well when i was a boy i fantasized about adult women. maybe that was wrong but it happened! in fact i always dated older women.

  • I been trying to figure out his last name for a couples of week finely found his music. i love ashley.
